Sigma SD10... Talk to me people!
garywainwright replied to freeflydrew's topic in Photography and Video
I know it has a 1.7 conversion factor if that helps. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk -
Radioactivedeals.com have the digital rebel body listed at $540 and the 10d at $939. This seems too good to be true! Anyone bought one from them? http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk

Before you buy either try and get a go on a Pilot made made by aerodyne. I jumped one last weekend and its a great canopy with the best openings of anything i've ever jumped. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk

Hi Ray, Have you jumped the D70 yet? gary http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk

Cypres fire during swoop?
garywainwright replied to garywainwright's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I heard that 1 of the Babylon guys at Ampuriabrava (Spain) had a Cypress fire during a swoop recently. Apparently he came out of his 1080 turn on his velocity 79 and his Cypres 2 fired. He landed OK under both canopies. Has anybody else heard about anything? http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk -
I spoke to a nikon sales rep when the camera was launched in the UK and i asked about the remote issue. He told me that their market research indicated that at the 'consumer' end of the market there was no demand for a screw in electronic remote. He told me my best option was to buy a d2H!!! All my kit is Nikon but i'm thinking of changing to canon too. They just seem to be ahead of the game and they will probably produce the first affordable full frame DSLR too. gary http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk

I was talking to a guy in a camera shop in the UK and he told me there is a 2 second delay on the remote control. Is this true? http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk

A friend of mine needs some new lower brake lines for his Xaos21 - 108. He has sent precision several emails and tried UK dealers who have emailed Precision with no joy. I believe Precison now sell the Xaos with dacron lower brake lines - Is this true? Should he just have a rigger measure the lines on it and make some new ones from dacron? Thanks http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk

X-Fire2 front riser pressure
garywainwright replied to kansasskydiver's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Your riser pressure will increase as your speed increases. Try starting the turn on half brakes to risers then finishing it with harness input rather than the other way round. Glad to hear you aborted your landing - i'm guessing the hangar is bigger and heavier than you are... have fun http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk -
Anybody jumping the Pentax Ist* digital? The reviews look good and its small and light. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk

Whys the limit on the 360?
garywainwright replied to jeremyneas's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Interesting stuff about Pete Allum being strictly 180. He recently reviewed the Katana in Skydive mag and he implies that his normal is a 270. I was one of only a handful of people at the ICP world cup doing a 180 and everybody was telling me to up the rotation to 270 to help with accuracy (I didn't want to change my technique during the comp though). I really struggled with the approaches doing a 180 when it started to get downwind - never landed downwind before i got there! ( I came 50th!!!) Whenever i watched Jay he was doing a 450. Hey Ray - i'm at deland with my 4 way team 'NRG' from 7th March - i can smell the Icehouse already! http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk -
Buying a digital rebel for use in the UK
garywainwright replied to garywainwright's topic in Photography and Video
I'm over in Florida soon. If i buy a Canon digital rebel will i have any problems (apart from the warranty) when i get back to the UK? I notice on the specs for digital cameras they have video out which will presumably be NTSC in the USA. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk -
Camcorder format? does it matter any more?
garywainwright replied to damion75's topic in Photography and Video
NTSC = never the same colour PAL = picture allways lousy take your pic! http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk -

Wingtips vs. Scott Miller Essential Skills
garywainwright replied to SpinDoctor's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Chris' seminar is great too - check it out when he gets back to the UK in April i believe. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk -
I have about 1500 jumps with mine and its great - i added a real simple cutaway too. I would prefer a flat top pro though even though they do cost more - there is more room to mount stuff on top. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk

Any idea why I was spiraling like that?
garywainwright replied to jerry81's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I know it doesn't make sense Derek but i tried it time and time again! Like i said though only when the brakes were set. I was thinking initiallly that i was sitting differently during a spiral but then i tried to stop it with opposite harness input - it didn't work! I mentioned it to Scott Miller (who has probably got a few more stiletto jumps than me!) and he had never heard about it so maybe it was something i was (subconciously) doing http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk -
Any idea why I was spiraling like that?
garywainwright replied to jerry81's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
When i used to fly a stiletto 135 (1.7 loading) i noticed that if i did a rear riser turn with the brakes set, when i let go of the riser the turn would continue until i used opposite input or took the brakes off. It would not recover on its own. Haven't tried it on other canopies though. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk -
I think with the fovean chip there is an even higher conversion factor. 1.7 or there abouts. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk

Chris Lynch and Al Macartney set up a UK swoop tour in 2003 and had 2 events - look out for more in 2004. Check out www.swooping.co.uk 2004 dates haven't been anounced yet though. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk -
New Nikon 12-24mm Lens for Digital!

Nikon are apparently throwing down the gauntlet with a D70. I'm still thinking of switching to canon though! http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk -
PD's new aggresive selling policy!
garywainwright replied to garywainwright's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
It did happen and it was a mistake - my comment about an aggressive selling policy was an attempt at humour. it wasn't direct from pd either, it was a dealer. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk -
Thanks Quade. I had a feeling you would be able to answer this one for me! I think its time to trade in my nikon gear and switch to Canon. http://www.garywainwright.co.uk Instagram gary_wainwright_uk
