Same observation here! The previous v2.6.2 would usually "agree" with Optima. On the other hand, it happened with old firmware that a couple of times the difference was as much as 150m (Neptune indicating lower ... and being wrong ). the 10-20m difference doesn't bother me much, but I've asked alti-2 about these 150m differences. Strangely, they didn't bother to reply Anyway, this did not happen again after fw upgrade (yet)

~200 jumps this year on Neos 104, loaded 1.9 Would agree with most of what is already mentioned: - steep trim, dives a lot more then xfire, maybe a little more then katana; - tends to "seach" but generally opens on heading; - good range on rears; - lots of oversteer on fronts; - felt like it could be loaded more; also: - has slammed me once real hard (never again after I started packing more carefully ) - things get interesting quite fast in linetwists (one cutaway ) I ended up with a Velo96, so I would say the Neos did to me more or less what is advertised - transition to "real" crossbrace...although I also tried xaos21 and prefered Neos at similar wingloading.

...and here is how Brian's book (and canopy ) saved me and some walking dude. Left toggle stab rolled out of the right "oh-shit!" turn with almost no altitude loss. lesson learned: better not to swoop if it starts raining so that you don't see people walking

I told that to you a couple of times before I gave up. But in case something has miraculously changed in your attitude and you really want to learn - I can tell that again: the way you were flying your spectre is not only dangerous - it is also ineffective. So start listening and learning. Although I doubt this going to happen before you hurt yourself. My only wish - don't get hurt too bad.

yes, it is there! Firebird, ordered Feb'06

same here ..and even more - I went as far as testing how the customer support works for both Neptune and Optima. First my Neptune went crazy and had to be sent back to alti-2 and couple of weeks later my Optima started failing - so it is on the way to l&b as well The response from both was fast, can't complain about anything yet. ..besides that I'm back in the "analogue mode" while waiting

yup, that seems to work. I usually throw the PC from full flight. The extra horizontal speed seems to take care of the burble and my lazy throw Actually I just replaced my old and tired standard Mirage PC for a brand new Cazer 28" zero-p with a longer bridal ... and didn't notice much difference in openings. But then again, my Firebird and Safire129 are a perfect match

Actually my brand new Micron seems to have a progressing "slippage" issue. I tried emailing several people from RWS but apparently their spam filters don't like the word "slippage" so I had no response so far

well, me and about a dozen of others from my club know that for sure - that's after having an emergency landing in an aircraft which could barely clear the tree tops. It seems that birds made a nest somewhere close to the engine air intake. The nest was apparently sucked in during the takeoff and choked the engine

Inboard / Outboard line stow D-bags? (Vector/Samurai)
luis replied to klafollette's topic in Gear and Rigging
Deja vu! I also have a Samurai in my old Mirage G3 and just got a new Vector, also wondering what to do with those inboard/outboard stows -
never say never ... as you can see from my previous post, you don't have to be part of "elite 400way" - sometimes being part of 30 way in a small country is quite enough I have some 20 or 30 jumps from an aircraft that can (at least theoretically) be pressurized - and I am not "elite" by any means

actually this incident was not the first for Vigil either. Last summer one or couple of them fired in Lithuania under similar circumstances (pressurized Antonov-26 being the cause). The answer from Vigil was basically "it works as designed" and replacement cutters free of charge. Of course, Lithuania being small country the incident didn't have much publicity So, does it really work as designed? Well, yeah! ...but maybe Vigil should consider designing it even better?

I have ~600 jumps on my sam120 and only a "brief introduction" to xfire119, so this is not very fair to make a comparison But anyway, my impressions are: xfire - much softer openings (too snively for my taste though ) sam - openings more on heading (in fact almost always exactly on heading) sam is much lighter on front risers and seemed to have much more oversteer in riser turns. Xfire was less snappy in toggle turns (maybe because of different line length) Recovery arch...well about the same, although I felt that sam dives longer, but that's maybe because I'm used to it. Xfire may have a bit stronger flair, but it is difficult for me to be sure for the same reason. What I found really different is the slow flight. The sam just stays in the air forever I can't really explain that - maybe it feels so because the wing stays pressurized longer (airlocks)? Which one would I choose now? It was a tough choice then and it would be tough now! Both are great canopies. But Brian's designs have that cult following which works great for selling

Exactly! The customer complained to the dealer first and apparently didn't like his solution of "unauthorized repair" and probably the attitude in general. Then he complained to the manufacturer, expecting them to take responsibility for their dealer's mistake. The guys at Basik suggested repair at half the price (which is nice, knowing that it is actually a different company now). The customer considered this too expensive (also because of shipment costs). Eventually the rig was fixed as per manufacturer's instructions by a local rigger. As far as I know, the dealer has agreed to cover the costs. The other incorrectly measured rigs will be modified too. Everything else is emotions. Including your sincere wish to defend your friends at Basik (by the way, no one was actually blaming them here).

hey guys, don't you think it went a little too far already? You know, inferno, it is kind of difficult to argue about anything here. You have your friends (Basik) and I have mine (Zydrius and, well, the nameless dealer also ) - so it is easy to guess which side each of us will take The point is - problem was eventually fixed one way or another and we all learned a couple of lessons. ...and I have no doubt that the guys at Basik are nice people , so Blue Skies and all that

funny, but did you notice that there was NO names of manufacturer or dealer untill you actually mentioned Basic Air Concept? Well, anyway, I thought it may be a right time to share a couple of thoughts. I jump together with both the customer and the dealer and also, due to my job specifics, know rather well what is customer support in general. Obviously, there is two sides of the story. Sure, the customer discovered his problem rather late (call him "funny" if you like )... OK, he got excessively nervous after he heard an answer he didn't like. Let's assume that he has no rights to proper customer service because of beeing too late with his complains or simply because having not enough experience at the time of purchase to actually understand what is a properly sized rig. But does that make a problem disappear? Does the rig fit better? Does that make good publicity? After all, how about the other couple of guys I know, who have similar issues with the same rigs? Morally - the customer is right. Formally - probably the dealer is right as well. But from a pure business perspective, I find it rather amusing. Does it really make sense to argue with the customer about a couple of hundred Euros and risk loosing all future sales in the country (which is very real now)? If the dealer does not understand or cannot afford this - the manufacturer surely does (or should)

..a little test we made right after the "Australian incident" back in 2004... We tried to simulate a baglock and see if the concerns are valid for a combination of PdF risers and MirageG3. It turned out that I could actually lift the person off the floor, holding the risers, while the cutaway cable was completely removed from 3 rings. They did not release until the "jumper" grabbed the risers and shook them off. Needless to say, that person got rid of reverse risers the same day

RW Using Fatalities as Advertising!
luis replied to silvere's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanks Bill! apparently you are not the only one from RWS reading the dz.com forums . Rosi has already contacted me and I have all questions answered now. So everything is fine and I am ordering a Micron -
RW Using Fatalities as Advertising!
luis replied to silvere's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
..well, speaking of e-mailing, Bill I am trying to reach someone from RWS (including you, after I got really desperate) for almost two weeks already with no reply whatsoever Nothing too serious really.. just a customer who's ready to order a Micron as soon (and if) someone would answer a couple of simple questions about the product -
In case you didn't notice last weekend - Rimas from K1 also has one But I doubt if there is any sentimental value for him - he can't do any RW

New wingsuit from BirdMan (firebird) on another note anyone seen a Phi?
luis replied to kevin922's topic in Wing Suit Flying
...well, it took much effort to keep my mouth shut till Jari decided to announce the Firebird , but I have actually flown one couple of weeks ago. This was my third wingsuit flight ever, so my testimony is ...well... maybe not very reliable Anyway, I had a feeling that Firebird is more "high performance" then PHI, a bit more difficult to control, but not too "twitchy" even for my experience. The opening was really sweet and on heading, probably because finding the hacky was very comfortable (Jari says, due to a different wing design). Honestly I don't know which one of the two I would (will ) choose. -
After trying many brands of goggles, I'm with FlexZs now. Just keep them tight Also, a couple of years ago I switched to disposable contacts (Focus Dailies by Cibavision) and never looked back . Better for your eyes (no disinfecting, protein removal needed) and not big $$$ if you loose one

~400 jumps on my Samurai120 in G3, using small bands only (as it was actually recommended by BigAir) - nothing but sweet on heading openings ...OK, had linetwists couple of times, but I don't blame rubber bands for that

yeah, let's see how it acts at a different density altitude so far you tried landing it at subzero temperatures at near sea level Anyway, the dive looks very steep, even with your straight double fronts approach
