  5. Be prepared for these sort of delays. I spent the summer without mine. Had it pulled after a Memorial Day Boogie. I shipped it out June 10th for its 8 year check, SSK received it on the 16th and I next saw it again two days before Labor Day. Around August 15th SSK finally said,"Yeh we should have given you a free loaner." A little late to come up with that observation. I did get them to pay for the return shipping. It didn't flunk anything but showed a potential fault in the extreme cold testing, they sent it to Germany where it spent the entire summer. Read what they sent me below. i like the part where they let me know there is no additional charge for this ( I paid 240.00 total) and that they had to "age" the new parts after they installed them. ================================= DATE RECEIVED AT SSK: 06/16/2006 SHIP VIA: UPS 3-Day Select _______________________________________________________________ SSK RE-39046 CYPRES S/N 5140A3625BC722 3O DOM 04/98 E1F Maintenance: YES Battery: YES NOTICE: As a result of testing and data analysis performed at SSK, it was necessary to ship this unit to Airtec in Germany on 06/26/2006, as the repairs or updates to prepare this CYPRES for the next four years of use were too extensive to be performed here. Although this CYPRES presently performs properly, some parameters were outside Airtec's stringent limits during extreme condition testing. Airtec attempts to complete the work as soon as possible, however, as artificial aging on new components is required, as well as a repeat of all stress and calibration tests, (plus shipping to/from Germany), expect a 4-6 week delay in return date. There is no additional cost for this additional service, it is simply part of the maintenance system that helps ensure reliable operation until the next scheduled date. Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the delay. NEW: To track the status of your CYPRES, log into our new CYPRES Service Tracking System: www.CYPRES-USA.com/track _______________________________________________________________ The 4 to 6 week return date (from when they received it in Germany )turned into 8 weeks plus. Alls well that ends well, just wish they didn't charge 2 dollars a day for loaners. I called everyweek to check on it and they never had definative answers just that their shipments from Germany arrive once a week, call back in a week. 6. I seem to remember meeting Charlie many years ago - he was running a bar on Morningstar Beach on St. Thomas. ==================================== Hmmmmm.....sounds like I better talk to him in person, this is far too important to be handled over the phone. I'm thinking January would be the best time for an interview
  7. Where is there to jump in Wyoming?? I grew up there. ===================================== We jumped at Pine Haven south of Devils Tower in 2004. They had a 182. Great views of DT and the Keyhole Reservoir. They were non USPA. Antelope were grazing on the grass around the runway. What fun!
  8. Thank you! I will work on researching this. I have heard of Charlie doing the lower 48 in his Cessna but had not heard about them getting AK and HI. Do you have any contact info for anyone? THanks again for responding! A mile of highway can take you a mile But a mile of Runway can take you anywhere! Blue Sky Traveler
  9. Lew, what a great person! We made four jumps with him today at Vandalia including my wifes 2,000th jump. Lew still needs a jump in Hawaii then he would be a fifty stater. We will be in Fairbanks working next week and Lew gave us the name of a fellow who may drop us north of the arctic circle if we are lucky. Thanks for responding! 10. We got cheap flights Guam to Cairns, Australia and jumped at Skydive Cairns (Nomad) and also went down to the Tully Aerodrome and jumped their 182. Good on ya! SCUBAed the Great Barrier Reef while in Cairns so all in all not a bad time. Learn how to pronounce Hafaday-(Chamorro greeting) Try Betel Nuts while you are there if you are so inclined. They are a polynesian stimulant our workers dipped sort of like snuff every day. Great people on that island--- just stay away from The Ichi Bang massage Parlor!!! If you make friends with the locals they will show amazing hidden swimming holes the tourists never see. Paradise! And be prepared for everyone you know to ask you about snakes when you mention Guam, we never saw a single one. They are mostly under control now. 11. My wife and I spent four months working on Guam. The fellow who runs the operation there as well as the one on Saipan is a very nice person. When we were there he was gracious but firm about fun jumpers. Buy a tandem or watch us jump were our two choices. They land on a soccer field with the tandems and he is paranoid about bad press if a fun jumper makes the Pacific Daily News for a negative reason like hooking in or landing out with marginal success. Good luck maybe you will be more persuasive.
  12. Hello Folks, We have an update to our group of Fifty State Fallers! CONGRATULATIONS: Walt Russo and Jack Barnes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 14. Betty and Harry are hoping to finish up our project in St. Louis and be there for the CASA. Our next project is Springfield, VA. Looking good. Our motto, "Lets get right to The Point!" Let the good times roll!
  15. ===================================== We can only hope------ the back ups yesterday and today were incredible. The third otter was running from lunch time on and helped a little. 17. I read Aldous Huxley, J.R.R. Tolkien, Hunter S. Thompson, Earnest Gann and Kurt Vonnegut in High School and my life was never the same, I had no choice but to become a skydiver. Writers rock. Man I miss HST. I still get chills up my spine when I think of these words that changed my youth forever, "We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold." Or from HST's Hells Angels: A Strange and Terible Saga "The Edge... There is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. The others- the living- are those who pushed their luck as far as they felt they could handle it, and then pulled back, or slowed down, or did whatever they had to when it came time to choose between Now and Later. But the edge is still Out there. Or maybe it's In. The association of motorcycles with LSD is no accident of publicity. They are both a means to an end, to the place of definitions. " All these writers offered a way of framing reality that was missing from public education.(extremely large understatement) A mile of highway can take you a mile But a mile of Runway can take you anywhere! 19. __________________________________________________ Do I recall this story right? Lew Sanborn and Jacque Istel both qualified for the "D" license at the same time, so they flipped a coin. Lew won and Jacque Istel became D-2. NickD __________________________________________________ I have heard Lew tell the story of how he received D-1. The cool part is he is D-1 because he LOST the coin toss. Istel won the toss and took Instructors Rating #1 which was at the time considered more prestigious. Lew lost and received D-1. The rest is history. Forgive me Lew if I have any of this incorrect but this is the story to the best of my recollection.... 20. We went to this boogie last year and it was excellent!
  21. Hello, I was wondering if folks here could help me get in touch with skydivers who have made at least one jump in all fifty states. If you know of anyone who has completed the fifty states and you have a contact e-mail or phone number for them I would appreciate your help. So far I have (in approximate order of completion)- FIFTY STATE FALLERS 1. Bobby Valenzuela 2. Shawn Leslie 3. Karen Hawes 4. Satomi Yamanaka 5. Atsushi Yamanaka 6. Betty Moore 7. Harry Moore We have talked to Lew Sanborn as recently as April of this year and know he has 49 states.(Hawaii yet to go) Thanks in advance for any info you might have! 23. Mockingbird, You sound like me after my first static line. Thoughts of skydiving consumed me. I think that is a sign you were born to be a skydiver! My wife and I both started jumping later in life. We started because skydiving is immensely rewarding and we stuck with it because of the amazing people we have met in the sport. The sense of camaraderie in this sport is like no other. We truly are "All in this Together." There are plenty of folks around the age of 50 who jump at San Marcos and have a ball doing it. A bunch of them will be at Ballunar in Houston next weekend, come on by if you can. The POPS is the funnest organization in skydiving, nowhere else can you get to know and jump with some of the pioneers of the sport. Sign up now! Welcome to the sky!!!!! 24. Larry, Are you organizing anything this weekend as par tof the Waller fun?!?!
  25. Oh Yeh, I consider it part of the "getting to know you " process with a new canopy and part of the "staying in touch" process with your main canopy. Knowledge is power in this sport........... A mile of highway can take you a mile But a mile of Runway can take you anywhere! Blue Sky Traveler
