  1. Anyone know of a DZ in Oregon that allows tents? I'm driving down the west coast and want to make a few jumps along the way.
  2. I've been a Sr. Rigger for just over a year now. In that time, I've had a couple clients ask me to make modifications to make their old gear (Talon 1 and Vector 2) more free fly friendly. In both cases, I consulted with the manufacturers who said there are no approved modifications to make the gear more free fly friendly and that the jumper should get gear that was engineered with those purposes in mind. Still being a little wet behind the ears, I'm sticking with what the manufacturers are saying and declining to make the requested mods. I've passed that information on to my clients and suggested they talk to a master rigger if they want to get more information. I'm wondering what you experienced master riggers would tell them if they were to contact you. In both cases, it was an issue with the reserve flap coming open while sit flying. In one case the reserve pin popped at the same time the main was deployed resulting in a 2-out. He landed the biplane off field without injury. I have no idea if the 2-out was actually caused by the loose reserve flap, but I'm sure it didn't help.
  3. I just found this link to some of his R&D. Looks like prototype #11 is the keeper. All the other tow ropes just broke on exit. But kudos to the rigger for wiring up an automatic failover. http://goo.gl/1VrPOZ
  4. Anyone know of a used juki 1900 going for a decent price?
  5. Well, I bought the machine. It seems to be working great. Hums along like nobody's business! Only problem is my wife's face has this rather deep scowl that doesn't seem like it's fading very quickly.. is this within normal operating specs or should I call someone to get her serviced?
  6. I'm a Sr. Rigger looking to buy my first industrial machine. I've got a line on a functional 545 at a great price. Anyone familiar with this machine? I've never used a walking foot. What would the strengths and weaknesses of this machine be in the context of a rigging loft?
  7. I replaced a PD126 (not Optimum) with a Nano 143 and had to shorten the closing loop by about 1/4".
  8. Ahh, yup. That's the one I was thinking of. Thanks!
  9. I remember seeing some really good instructions for making BOCs somewhere but can't find them now. Anyone have a suggestion of where to look?
