  1. Great idea... The Parachute Association of South Africa is advising visiting skydivers to take extra precautions and keep alert when skydiving in Africa. Prides of lion are present in the area and pose a threat not unlike the proverbial Farmer McNasty cow. PASA has therefore recommended that skydivers jumping in Africa wear noisy little bells on their jumpsuits so as to startle the lions and scare them off . They have also advised skydivers to carry pepper mace spray with them in case of an encounter with a lion. PASA also recommends that skydivers be vigilant and look out for fresh signs of lion activity. You can recognize the difference between cows and lions by a close study of their faeces. Cow dung is big, wet and contains traces of leaves and grass. Lion dung on the other hand is smaller, drier, has little bells in it and smells like pepper. Safe swoops Sangiro

  3. Hey all - someone just sent me this. Now here's a skydiving risk that I believe everyone can appreciate but only Africans need to anticipate.... Dangerous Dropzone Safe swoops Sangiro
  4. Hey - these buttons are not currently hosted anywhere. I'll add the buttons to Dropzone.com again at a future stage. I don't think I'll write the discriptions on how to make your own again though... Why would I delete this site? It's my roots!
  5. Mike - how about you write a weekly satire column?!! I can almost take some of your posts and use them.... you can just scrub it a bit and...whaaalaaaa...front-page material. C'mon man! Do it. You can rip into as many cultures as you like at a time. Safe swoops Sangiro
  6. Ok - now give me the good news, and stop getting dead....that way don't have to put it on the front page! Safe swoops Sangiro
  7. I hear you.... I report the news I can find and unfortunately I sometimes have a few hours on a Sunday night to browse the web and scan rec.skydiving for leads, fire people emails and ask a few questions. (I have a pretty busy "day job") The result of this kind of search is more often than not a bunch of bad news. I don't post bad news because I like it. I post bad news because that's all I can find. I have asked in this forum multiple times that people help me by writing stories, articles, columns, interviews whatever. Just email me your idea and I'll support you in any way I can. I have access - or can get it - to a lot of big names in skydiving..... just tell me who or what you'd like to write about or do an interview with. Write me a report about a boogie you've been to, a column on what happened at your DZ, a lesson you've learned, your opinion on a new trend, your observations on the latest raining methods, your opinion on USPA fees...anything! If you have acceptable to good writing skills and you can string a bunch of sentences together in a coherent and interesting way that's nice and informative, humorous, factual... I'll probably jump at it. Write about what you think others would like to read - not only about what you would like to read. Go for it. Make suggestions. Offer to scan the web and rec.skydiving for me on a daily basis, hunt for story leads, fire off some emails for more info, write it all up and turn it into an article... I'll take it! There are people in this forum who write the funniest stuff - write some satire! A good piece of satire per week and I'll spice up the home-page with something funny all the time and bring the smile back. A lot of people on this forum has already submitted and contributed some great content and stories. I thank you! Guys, one difference between Dropzone.com and Parachutist is: they have a staff, I don't. But I do have a community and if you folks jump in and push me content I can have a "virtual staff" that span the globe. We can have more relevant stories and articles on here so fast that by the time it hits the printed press...it's old news! I truly believe Dropzone.com is a community. I'll keep on working my ass off to make sure this is the best place to hang out and that this site paints a picture of our sport that we are happy for whuffo's to see, but I'm having a hard time doing all that all by myself though.
  8. Hey guys - I'm bunkered in (so to speak) just outside the Pentagon. Working 24/7 through this weekend. If all goes well I may have my life back on 5/1. Speedracer, if I manage to find a free evening this weekend or next I'll definately drop you an email! I miss reading all the forum posts very day! I quickly scan them in the evenings to make sure FFF is keeping his pants on!

  10. Happy Birthday buddy - hope you had a good one!
  11. I know that you've already decided on the Sabre but for future reference, let me just support Lisa in this. I have a Safire 149. Safire landings can be hard to get used to or figure out in the beginning. I spent a lot of time running like the Roadrunner! Be sure you can stand-up all your landings before you make a downsizing decision like this. Be safe. Have fun. ...btw, did you find your Sabre on Dropzone.com? Safe swoops Sangiro
  12. Good for you! Interesting that you were able to kick out 17 line twists. I also jump a Safire. What was the canopy size and your wing loading? Safe swoops Sangiro
  13. Heya all, Well, first my apologies for being so quiet this week - I missed you guys - but had to put in a few late nights in my day job. (As opposed to my night job which is much more fun....running Dropzone.com!) I'm kinda all over the county at this stage. Thought I'd let you know where I'll be, so let me know if you jump around one of these cities... Maybe I can get to meet some of you.
  14. Thank you so much. You guys rock!
  15. Hey Billy - good to hear from you. We've heard a lot about you and we're happy to have you here at last to give us the dirt on Carrie! Stick around, have fun!
