That's not what he said, and I find it hard to believe that you think he did. I think it's much more likely you're throwing up strawmen to be obtuse. This is not really a complicated argument, folks. It's asinine to argue the police can do no wrong, just like it's asinine to argue they can do no right. No one that I've seen is making either argument. The real issue here boils down to those few bad apples who DO wrong, and face no consequences for it. Once I see the rest of the boys in blue up in arms about those cases too, then I'll believe that the majority of them have my best interest at heart. To protect and serve includes protecting the populace from your brethren, whether it's graft, negligence or just sheer incompetence that's causing the problem in the first place.

Jay Stokes - most jumps in 24 hours going on NOW

Good luck with that! I've been trying to explain that to people at work for a decade now... -
Huh... Maybe there IS a god after all...

ISIS this is what is really going on in the middle east

Well, I'm not Quade, and in fact, it scares me when I agree with him, but I'll fill it in for you... until they strike us directly in the U.S. (Perhaps another 9-11) we should mind our own fucking business for a change, and stop creating and arming more terrorists. Radical concept, I know, and not bloody likely, but there it is. -
Feds Punish Business For Engaging In ‘Citizenship-Discrimination’

Does this mean we get to have a new flame war regarding the DOJ now? 'We shouldn't worry about this, because there are good people in the DOJ too.' "No, they're all child eating monsters." 'I knew a guy who worked for DOJ once and he didn't beat his wife' -
and that argument was, in fact, made. The opponents argued that people were too dumb for that to fly and that if they didn't spell out the rights, government would eventually run roughshod over them. Sadly, what we've seen is that, even if they ARE spelled out, government will run roughshod over them. Let's look outside the US. Ever hear of countries/governments being accused of "human rights violations"? If you're correct and all rights come from those governments, how could any government ever violate them? No, again, all rights are inherent. Your particular government may not recognize them, and may violate them quite frequently, but that doesn't change the basic rights themselves. (By the way, on a related note, look at ammendment ten... Very similar situation. In a vain attempt to idiot proof the Constitution, they decided to actually include a note that says only the powers listed here belong to the government.)
-
One can debate "god given" if he likes. One cannot pretend that rights are not inherent and assign their creation to the Constitution. According to all of our Founders, founding documents, and plain common sense, rights are inherent in people and NOT granted by the government or the Constitution.

Yet they oppose any laws for the same requirments that they demand on their own range? Not being a member, I can't speak for the NRA, but I can speak for me and say you're damned right I would oppose that. Look at it from a skydiving perspective. Is it better for us to police ourselves, or to have some whuffo two thousand miles away attempt to do so? Now, add to that the fact that, when discussing firearms, the whuffo legislator is PROHIBITED from doing any policing, in addition to being incapable of doing so effectively, and you might begin to understand why laws are not the universal answer our country seems to think they are.

The mode is irrelevant. It's a question of body mass and strength... I wouldn't allow a shooter that young and small to fire even a 9mm, regardless of whether it's full auto or not.

Trying to ensure no one is ever offended by anything is about like bubble wrapping the world, and just as likely to work. People will ALWAYS find something to be offended about. Can we get back to working on real problems yet?

What crappy reporting... Whose murder is he being charged with? If it's the bystander gunned down by police, then yes, complete bullshit. Charge him with what he actually did, and it sounds like there's plenty; but the cop is the one on the line for that bystander's death.

Mandatory AAD's (was: Franklin County fatality)

That doesn't sound like government usurping a power they don't legitimately possess to me... You said the DZ requires them. That sounds like perfect evidence that people are able to manage things on their own without the government. And on that note, I'm with you. We should make them mandatory... -

I have yet to see anyone question why police are on guard. What I see being questioned is why police are murdering subdued suspects, raping civilians during traffic stops, firing gas canisters at press... Are you able to see the difference between those actions and being on guard? -

Sure, I'll bite... No, we should not do something. Yes, I realize that we at the very least exacerbated the situation there, so the argument will come from some that we need to "clean up our own mess." However, we've quite effectively proven that we cannot clean up messes, and attempting to do so just makes a bigger mess. It's long past time to bite the bullet, admit we are not the world's police or mommy or daddy, and try focusing on our own problems for a change. It's sad that we spend so much time, effort, blood and money trying to make the rest of the world safe for democracy, while at the same time destroying our own republic However, given your thoughts on interventionism, none of that will go over very well, will it?

Not as long as they can keep us distracted with the "right/left" BS... It would be nice though, wouldn't it?

Riots over a shoting turn into free jordans and 40's

I don't have any. I had that job, and it IS tough. Add to all those factors the expectation that I enforce laws that should not be laws in the first place, and it was too much. So I found a different one. Well, they're people, so yes, automatically some of them will be racist. The root problem is the militarized part of that... When you train and equip a police force as if it's an army then it tends to act as if it's an army and do what armies do. Now, if you want to talk about how race changes the amount of PRESS an event gets, I think that's also an important factor... -

We cannot legislate common sense into existence (or morality for that matter, but that's a separate discussion). We keep trying to over and over and over, and every time, we're surprised when it doesn't work. -
