In a bar with about 19 skydivers ranging from 50 jumps to 5000. Random guy begins talking to skydiving girl who at the time had around 70 jumps. He begins to tell her the usual story about jumping at some airport, then the next jump was on a snowboard.... etc. Skydiving Girl: Hey Tim, this guy is a skydiver and has funny stories. :) Me: yeah, nice to meet you where did you jump? Bar Dude. That airport at Morgan Hill. (not a dropzone by the way) Me: Sweet, how many jumps? How'd you learn? Bar Dude: My uncle gave me a parachute to use and told me how to use it. It was a blast... The next one I took a snowboard out. That was pretty fun but scary. Me: You do know you're standing in a room full of skydivers right? Bar Dude: Yep! (Normally I just let them go on but I decided to spare the guy) Me: You're cracking me up! Right now we still like you. None of what you said happened. Bar Dude: But it did Me: Stop now and I'll buy you another beer. I'm an instructor. Everyone in your view has 50 jumps to many thousands so I promise you are not going to impress the ladies here :) Want a drink or not? Bar Dude: Sure why not... sorry. ------------------------------------- I've run into so many people who tried to convince me about their skydiving escapades. Another person jumped with his mom, (also in Morgan Hill) who had 150 jumps, she just gave him a rig and off they went.... and the stories grew. Mostly I don't really care. Sometimes I'll mention I jump, sometimes I won't. It can be entertaining. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

Now that I think about it, I'm not positive it's technically legal to have the signature stamped. I see it fairly often since it's very difficult to pencil pack the next pack job. That also would lead to the possibility of said stamp being lost and forcing the rigger to actually sign it. If the card gets checked by another dropzone, they won't believe the actual signature is real My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

Geez Did you seriously think no one would answer. Yes it's legal. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

I haven't been to Taft in many years but I imagine they do a good job. I have recently done some AFF instruction in Hollister and jumped with local instructors. The instructors impressed me and that's not easy to do. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

For skydiving and the wind tunnel, I use the same suit. For the tunnel, I just put a small piece of gaffers tape under the zipper and zip it down onto the tape. For skydiving, I just close the snap and it's good enough. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

I think the only problem with the Silhouette is the name. It's such a good canopy to start with. It's much better for most new jumpers than say... a Sabre2. Easy to pack. It's great to fly and at proper and slightly over new jumper wingloads, it's forgiving of improper control input. It's just a damn good parachute. Stop beating around the bush and tell us your concerns. Personally, I see nothing wrong with it. He flies like he's new but he's not doing anything a person with reasonable sense can't handle. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

cadmium residue???? Sunpath what are you charging us for?
hookitt replied to TheDonMan's topic in Gear and Rigging
Just a thought. Try not to imply the original poster is being a tool. Not everyone here has had fair and professional interaction with the manufacturer. Besides, his question is quite valid. Cadmium Residue in and of itself is not a problem. The grey stuff on your risers and the chafing straps that buffer the Type 8 from hardware is Cadmium residue. Unless the hardware is stainless steel, it's there. Perhaps there is something missing or misunderstood but I would want to see the actual hardware and the webbing that was removed. I understand requiring that the rest of the harness, (reserve risers) be inspected therefore opening the reserve container is necessary, but the rest of the work should have been performed only with consent. TheDonMan, was there consent for all the work to be performed prior to actual work being performed or was it done first and you were billed for it? Good policy, in my opinion. People have died because they accidentally sewed their reserve to their rig, and then tried to use it. Maybe so but it's impossible to accidentally sew the harness to the reserve. That would not be the reason for removing it. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... No. He should take the same course as any other cantidate, and follow the same guidelines. If he doesn't like it, he should have thought of that 10,000 jumps ago, and got his rating then when he had 800 jumps or so like everyone else. Despite all of his accomplishments, if they don't include the USPA mandated experience for becoming an instructor, than he's not qualified. He may be the head of the class at his coach course, and he may sail through the AFF cert course, but he needs to follow the rules like everyone else. All of his experience is an asset for sure, but if it doesn't include what the USPA says it should include to be an instructor, then he's not qualified to be a USPA rated instructor. I don't agree with you at all. He should be able to challenge any of the courses due to skill, time in sport, and ability to teach. I had over 3000 jumps when I finally chose to become an instructor. If I had to do a year of coaching, something I was already proficient at, I would have been screwed. I took that dumbest requirement (BIC) and went to the AFF course. The course was not a breeze but once I finished, real students had a good instructor to work with. Note, I do not believe people with low time or no practical knowledge should be able to simply get a coach rating (questionable usefulness at best) and then become an AFF instructor the next week. If we used your example in other areas of *employment* highly qualified and experienced people would not be hired because someone with a degree and very little practical knowledge, will win. I'm sorry sir, your qualifications and experience is astounding however you do not have an A+ certificate. (A+ iis a very low level qualification) My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

Nickel Cadmium residue gets on everything it rubs against if it's under load for any length of time. For example, risers, hip rings, and chest rings also to some degree ... Non-stainless of course. What is the actual break down and damage that was incurred by this residue? Have you had the work done arelady? If it's already apart, have the webbing pieces and the old hardware sent back to you. Cadmium residue is a very non-specific diagnosis. It means absolutely nothing by itself. According to what I'm reading into it, there is allegedly something wrong with the hip rings causing wear on the harness. (not my diagnosis, just what I'm reading into your post). The only reason to remove the reserve would be to replace the reserve side flap plastics. Yes it can stay in but 5 minutes to remove and re-attach the reserve will save a lot of headache. To replace the harness from the chest down is quite simple. The reserve does not need to be touched for that. The harness repair will take maybe an hour for a factory harness builder. That includes unstitching the lower 3 point. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto -
My opinion: Unless you want a second rig, just keep what you have until you're actually ready to either downsize, or or simply replace a worn out parachute. The Safire is fine. The Sabre2 flies and opens a little different but the change will be slight enough that I doubt it's worth replacing it just for the sake of replacing it. The problem with almost every single brace commercially available is they stop working when the arm is raised. I nearly quit skydiving 4500 jumps ago because my shoulder was so unstable. All I needed was a brace that when the arm was raised, it would pull the arm tighter into the socket. 7 dollars worth of webbing and velcro later, I made one and used it for many thousands of jumps. After years of wearing the brace I no longer need and unfortunately, I've lost it so I can't show it to you. Back track a few years when I still had that brace. One day, I needed it but left it at home so I took duct tape and a simple belt and made one. I dug this out recently to show a friend. I don't suggest making one from duct tape, it's just the only one I had available for your viewing pleasure. Function is the only reason this is being shown. The redneck rigging is quite exceptional because it works great, but it's not very streamlined. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

Billy, I think I read your post wrong. The landing area is 150 lower than the take off area? If so, set the AAD 150 Down before you take off. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

Can you say that without it sounding insulting Edit: By the way, my parents have known all along. They know I BASE jump too. My mom raised me so it has been no surprise that her son decided to jump from airplanes. It was then no surprise when I started to jump off of things. My mom has done 2 tandems. She understands completely. My older brother wanted to do a BASE jump a while back. I said if he really wanted to go then I'll take him but he has to have permission from Mom first . I'm not joking about that either. She said yes. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
