Ssup, any opinions on this... Pettion against Bill O'Riley
flyer299 replied to chickenhawk420's topic in The Bonfire
You don't have to agree with what Bill O. has to say. You don't have to like it either. Sometimes I am on his side, other times I think he is way off. That is what makes him fun to watch. With out people like that, this would be a very boring world. Email his show and voice your thoughts. That is the best way to go. -
This is really strange to me. When I was flying, I signed my own Pilot's logbook. An instructor would sign my log book for any flights that he provided instruction for. But at the bottom of each page I signed to certify that the information was true. Why doesn't that apply for skydiving?

Cancer Survivor Record Jump
flyer299 replied to jetfuelbabe's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sorry, I must be out of the loop, what is the record they are going for? -
When I was a student, the gear just had a normal slider. Once I got off of student gear, then I started using sliders that Collapse. Next time you are at the DZ, ask one of your instructors to show you one.

I've read a lot of post in regards with a collapsible slider. I was wondering if someone could give us the best procedure to follow after opening? I am still new and want to listen to what everyone has to say. Like everything I learn from DZ.Com, I talk to my instructor before trying. My Opening Procedure I use now is: 1) Look for Inflated Canopy. 2) Use Rear Risers to inflate end cells if needed. 2b) At the same time, look around for other skydivers and evaluate my spot, and make my first turn using rear risers. 3) Collapse Slider, but pretty much leave it where it at, above the toggles. 4) Release the breaks, and test the canopy’s ability to land (Flare, Turn, Etc.) 5) Pilot the Canopy to the ground. I am really re-evaulating my #3 step. Should I be pulling it down behind my head? Thanks Ken

I have never had problems, but I saw a guy come down from a Tandem (the student) and he said he dislocated his shoulder on opening. The instructor said the opening was normal (not hard). The student said that he had never had a problem with it before. Might just be one of those strange things that happen.

I did the AFF progression and recomend it. I have never done a Tandem jump at all... I recommend doing 1 Tandem jump if you are at all nervous about the whole experience, but recommend getting into AFF a quick as possible. Even if you spend a few extra $$$ to do it, and have to wait a few extra weeks, I think you will feel it was worth it. It was for me.

Let me throw my 2 cents in for Infinity. Love mine, great price, looks good, and is rock solid.

Talking to a dead man, part II and a half...
flyer299 replied to freakydiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I agree that regulations might not be the best answer. For me the best answer is good discussion like these, and then people who read these talking about it with people who don't have access to DZ.com. The best way is for the more experienced jumpers to apply common sense at the drop zone. I know my instructors really helped me out when I showed up with a Hornet 150. I am now very happy with my Spectre 170. The more we talk about it, and the more we talk with the young skydivers (in terms of experience), the better this will get. -
I waited a few months before I posted this. I've been jumping my Infinity now for a bit now, and really love it. Very comfortable to wear, great riser and pin protection. Best of all, it just looks good. It has a great shape to it. Oh, by the way, I hear they are priced well too, but I'd never trade in quality for a price.

Ever thought about Infinity? I havn't been around much, but I love my Infinity Container!
-
Maybe we can install a Lo-Jack device on a rig? Now that would be taking it to the next level.

I got a Spectre 170 and am a little more than 200lbs out the door. I love the Spectre! Great openings. I bought Brand New for $1400, so $1000 for 18 jumps... Wish I had that deal to!
-
I just got my new Spectre 170 and have been trying to fit it into a bag that once had a Hornet 150 in it. Needless to say, I understand what you are going through. I just kept trying and I stuck with the normal ProPack. I looked into Physco packing, I think it is a good method, but it isn't used much at my home drop zone. Since I am a new sky diver, I want to use the same method that is used at the home Drop Zone so that the people there can give me more advice. After trying to pro-pack it serveral times, I just gave up when I got frustrated. Just keep comming back until you get it. I jumped my first pack job with this configuration (I've jumped my own pack jobs with easier to pack rigs before). It opened perfect, on heading and soft. Just keep at it, you'll get it.

Here is mine. I was so happy that I got to jump it at last. I bought it and then waited 4 months to get off student status and to get the right size main in there. But here it is!

Help with my Skydiving Website
flyer299 replied to kansasskydiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Those Splash Screens at the front really turn me off. The front page is too busy. When I first click a link this is what I like to See: 1) Something Nice to Look at 2) Clear Navigation to the site 3) Some Keywords, Bold Words that jump out at me to summerize the site News Items and Upcomming events can belong on a front page, but not front and center. -
The way I look at it is: There are a million different reason why I want to have an AAD. There is one reason why I shouldn't (the cost of one). Once the Cypress is installed and turned on, I should never do a jump thinking the Cypress Will Save me. I need to do the jump with everything in place so I can execute my emergency procedures and solve any problems on my own. If for some reason my cypress still fires then I have gotten a second chance at life. That is worth the $900 to me! Hell they could double the price and it would be worth it!

Do you stretched before you Jump?
flyer299 replied to flyer299's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don't even know if this has any effect, but I was wondering today... All the other sports I've been apart of, I've stretched my body before I started, and this has help prevent injuries. I was wondering how many people carry this over into skydiving. Of course no amount of stretching will help you if you swoop into the ground, but would it be helpful for those harder than normal landings? I haven’t been doing it yet, but I think when I go out tomorrow, I will have to add this to my routine. Just a Thought -
Good job on the graphics there... Very impressive use of text!

Congrats on the wedding... I just got married about a month ago...

Ever think about tracking your jumps on the computer? I am working on some web based Jump logging software, just woundering if anyone would use it?

I never jumped from around the launch, but I did learn to fly there. I used to go up and circle just about where the picture was taken to watch launches. That is about as close as you can get. Something else... I am not sure if that is the shuttle launch pad or a rocket pad. Some Delta rockets look pretty nice as well. The security around rocket launch can be a little less than a shuttle launch.
