  1. I'l definitely hit 300 on my second of third day in Eloy, but that's before the boogie. Hopefully I'll hit 400 by the end of the boogie
  2. Go for the container, if it's new and custom made it will fit you better. The main you can either rent, borrow, buy second hand. Chnaces are your next and after next main will also fit in a custom container. But with a container you'll need at least a reserve. OK I don't know.
  3. I'm 5'2 and 115 lbs, and have an Odyssey, which fits perfectly. I think the cut-in laterals have a lot to do with that. I would definitely recommend an Odyssey for small people like me. But the wait may be a problem there now
  4. Since this seems to be bothering you so much that you replied to your own reply, here's another clarification. I have been scuba diving since I was 13, and at some point spent 5 years as a diving instructor (2 of which full time). Judging from your other replies, I am sure you'll try something to the effect of 2-5 years of teaching 5 people/week does not give me enough observation. It's getting boring really. As for skydiving I am very close to a few instructors and coaches that say the same thing over and over. As for e.g. windsurfing, spent enough time around a huge windsurfing school with my cousin (instructor) to know it's the same there, too. Maybe you should read the post properly though, and what I mean by panicky (in quotes). But it is obvious you relate to the older generation (that has also started skydiving older) and that's why all this is pissing you off. Understandable Mr. Phelps, but please spare me that "idiocy" .
  5. In Germany choach jumps cost 2 tickets (yours and the choach's = 50 EUR) + a fee which varies a lot. Around Berlin it's around 13 EUR. The fee has nothing to do with how good the Instructor is, some are not that great but take more money e.g. If you plan on Germany PM me for more info.
  6. What an idiotic statement! One made from your vast experience I assume. I assume that you're feeling pissed because you are one of the "older" ones? It's an idiotic statement to call that an idiotic statement. Say whatever you may, in sports like skydiving or e.g. scuba diving, wind surfing, etc., the younger ones learn to relax and move around a lot faster. I'm sure there are exceptions, but they are just that, exceptions. Now do you really need "experience" to observe that? BTW panicky is in quoetes for lack of another word that fits. Lets unrelaxed.
  7. Your soul is worth £20109. For your peace of mind, 48% of people have a purer soul than you. Damn, 3 people in this thread have purer souls. Yikes, I guess that remark just dropped my value a notch
  8. I don't believe RW as a discipline will do anything more for your awareness. As for slow speeds, girls like me can beat most belly fliers in a sit. So I don't really think that's a fair argument, either you're overstrained or you're not and can deal very well. Older people tend to be less relaxed and "panicky" than younger ones. But that subject has been discussed a million times here, and it's worse than the Cypres discussions.
  9. Mainly a freefly DZ, though there are some RW jumpers. The porter is lots of fun to jump out of, and there are people of all levels. Would recommend another DZ for AFF/SL, but for lisensed jumpers, it's a good place to jump. Plan on getting you own food if you're not into grease.
  10. Jump # 11, by #16 I had a solid sit, though no moving around, but my b/f is/was a long time ff instructor. my first jump with anyone else was at #80 or so. I see your point in having people get automatic on their basic skills first, mainly to always pull at the right altitude and not lose awareness, but people learn differently, and belly is not for everyone.
  11. Do yourself a favour with another canopy. Although, the Germans west of the Rhein are very pro-Paratec (in a very strange way in fact), lots of good jumpers around here have turned down sponsoring offers from them when it comes to canopies. For the German Swooping Open all Paratec sponsored jumpers I talked to, said they wouldn't come with their current canopy (most couldn't afford to buy another one). On the other hand every canopy will get you back to the ground. It's just a matter of settling for less or not. I am going to be attacked by the the Paratec-Brain-Washies now
  12. Thanks for the info, it is much appreciated :). do you know if Olaf made the Ultra Class?
  13. Yeah I read that too. It's very dissapointing that the organizers are not reporting, and we have to wait for tidbits from competitors Well maybe tonight there'll be more...
  14. thanks for the info, and please keep it coming. nothing on proswoopingtout.com or the perris site yet. i got used to the omniskore style and am very impatient if you find out anything about the German guys (especially Flirre (Olaf)), please let me know.
  15. Can on eof you guys tell me how the standings are? who's definitely in, who's out already, etc. thanx
  16. I think your best bet is Colibri/Ampfing. From what I hear a lot of people that used to jump in Saulgau switched to Ampfing. I'm not sure if they still have the Twin Otter though.
  17. One difference is that the Sabre2 is slightly tapered (semi-elliptical), while the Sabre is not. This makes the Sabre2 a little more responsive.
  18. I started with a pair of jeans. If they bother you and keep flying up, you can tie them around your ankles with rubber bands or something. Make sure your Shirt is long enough to tuck securely in the pants, so it doesn't slide out and cover your handles. As a matter of fact, I am usually too lazy to change out my jeans to jump Some people start with leggings which look a bit gay though .
  19. There was a similar post a while ago, which does not exactly answer my question though. I have been packing a few different Velocities the past weeks. One in particular started having openings that were way too slow all of a sudden. Whether I pack or the owner does, it doesn't make much of a difference. We've tried everything with the slider, and nothing changes the problem. Those super slow opening mean that it snivels to one side eventually. The problem seems to have gotten worse with new steering lines (only the lower half changed). His friend, another Velocity jumper that I pack for suggested we spray silicone at the top of the lines so the slider can slip down more easily. He'd heard that from someone in Eloy. Has anyone heard of this before? I'm guessing the canopy has 300 - 600 jumps on it. So it shouldn't be that.
  20. A modern DZ with a great facilities, and a nice lawn to hang around on. Lots of freefliers at this DZ, some of which world-class. Manifest is well organized, though on some weekends it takes ages to get on a load because teams get prioritized and can double-manifest.
  21. I didn't find the book that great, and the video was full of "you just have to feel it" stuff that does not exactly help. I guess you should just get a basic idea of sit flying at first, try that, and then ask some more. I am sure you already know how it should look like, so go out and try it, but remeber that you will probably be shooting all around the sky at first, so better not take anyone with you if there are no qualified people. Have fun :)
  22. I'm sure it will, I saw the trailer. And this is why I am so impatient
  23. I tried my first sit at jump 12. But the first time I jumped with someone other than my b/f, who is a former AFFI and FF coach, was at jump 80-something. My advice is only jump with others if you think you are not a danger to them (coaches, etc.) or when you think you can react appropriately to someone shooting at you. Avoid bigger ways until you are proficient enough, and anyway, a lot of two ways will most likely advance you faster. And deffinitely get an audible because it takes time until you develope good altitude awareness.
  24. I have no experience with Velocities, but my b/f and a jump buddy jump them. The jump buddy had bad openings and was ready to sell his, until Rickster Powell showed him how to pack it a bit different. My b/f has only found one packer that can pack it the way he likes, and she apparently has been packing a lot of small HP canopies. A lot of others I've seen had problems until someone showed them how to pack it. So maybe you just need to get someone you know has great openings on a Velocity give you some pointers, or watch your packing.
