Sadly, I’ll miss out on seeing everyone this year. A couple of us decided that the dirty hippy-fest out in the desert known as Burning Man was just too enticing to pass up so we’re taking a year off from Couch Freaks to see what all the fuss is about way out west. There’s talk of a satellite uplink from the desert rover (Pete’s shiny new RV) back to the Zoomeeland Base Camp, but we’ll see if the techno-gods are with us on that before we make any promises. The majority of the Zoomeeland crew will still be in Ft. Dodge living up to the low expectations we’ve set for ourselves in the past. My heart will still be in Ft. Dodge even though my body will be in Black Rock City (I’m not really sure where my mind will be though!) Cragganmore is my favorite so far, but I still have a lot of tasting to do. I tried a skotch called Sheep Dip one time that was decent but it was searved "neat" and I'm more of an on the rocks with a spash of water kinda guy. Its interesting to me how the same skotch can taste different with a little water, like it almost opens it up and you can taste all the different layers better. Whatever you do though... don't mix it with soda, or for God's sake coffee! Irish whiskey and coffe perhaps, but not skotch. If we've got a poll on skotch we need another thread about cigars. What to wear? Well let's see, I prefer something with a pattern... And everyone knows vertical stripes are "slimming". But with all the talk about the environment this year, earth tones are really big and I hear that khaki is the new black! Fabulous!!! Actually a suit will mainly help you maintain a comfortable fall rate with other flyers as someone mentioned above. If you're at the beginning stages of skydiving and are currently doing solos, you should worry more about your body position and getting comfortable with the higher airspeeds associated with head down and sit flying positions. Jumping in shorts and a t-shirt really helps you feel how the air is hitting your body. Once your freeflying skills progress and you start flying with others, then you'll see how your body type will impact your jumpsuit choice and you'll have a better idea of what to get. (You'll also have more time to save up some cash for a decent suit.) As a side note (and I'm sure you've heard this before but...) don't dismiss RW altogether. Good 4-way and/or bigway attemps are alot of fun and there are some important skill sets to learn. I'm on a VRW team and we use a lot of the ideas developed in 4-way RW. I was also on a large hybrid a while back and it was surprising how poorly some of the freeflyers did because the first part of the skydive was essentially a big-way RW jump. Wow, you guys sure know how to welcome somebody to town! I just moved to Phoenix about 2 months ago, so that was a great way to get to know everyone at my new 'home DZ' a little better. It's been colder than... well just fu(kin freezing here in KC lately, so most people have just been sort of hibernating alot. I've been to Moab in June, so I know how hot it get's out there. I don't know the details of the deal yet so I'm not sure what type of realtor and relocation package my company will give me, but thanks for the offer to help. I have a great offer at work to move to our Phoenix office, but I'm not sure if I want to uproot my wife and daughter and move over a thousand miles away. My wife is ok with it, but we'd be really far from all our family and friends here in the midwest. On top of the job/propomtion, etc. there's the obvious draw of having Eloy as my home DZ and there's other great things about Phoenix like being able to swim outside one day and go sking the next, being within reasonable diving distance from Vegas, San Diego, Mexico/ocean, etc... But maybe Phoenix really sucks and I just don't know it.(?) Has anyone here moved to Phoenix somewhat recently? Are you glad you did? I'm really thinking of getting one of those 2-channel infrared Micro helecopters like this one http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/rc/8d19 They're only $40 from a place at our local shopping mall. I'm thinking about getting the bigger 3-channel RC version for $80 instead, but I foresee crashing it into everything in my house and spending twice as much on replacement parts, so maybe I should just get the little one instead. From what I understand the 2-channel only goes up/down and turns inplace and you have to weight it to fly forward. The three channel one can also fly forward/backward and hover, but it's much bigger (around 24" long) so the damage it can do in my house is much bigger as well Has anyone here flown one of these little micro ones? Do you think I should just go ahead and get the big one instead? Our cat is going to hate either one... but it will just be payback for all the times he tried to sleep on my head at 3:00 AM!
