There is the operations manager...but he thinks the sun shines out of my boss's arse. I did approach him and mention the situation that my boss has made. He realises my boss's bad tactics, yet, the store where I work, is the only one out of the five he 'babysits', that is beating budget. He did say that it distresses him that he received this complaint from the best performing store manager....however, "He didnt see a point in me going to Industrial Relations." So I thought to myself...screw you hippy, I'm going anyway. *** Nasty suggestion Wait a little while - or get a friend to do this. Ring that operations manager and tell him that this guy has given his name as a referee a dn would it be convient now for him to take 10 min to talk about his performance as your client is waiting on a reference before issuing the job offer I used to work in recruitment and ive never actually done this to anyone - but thinking about it made me feel better when people were treating me like that! And i cant help thinking the Ops mgr might be a bit annoyed that blue eyed boy is looking for another job :) Note - before you do this if you do this, think about what the consequences could be ie this guy possibly losing his job, and ask if you can live with that... the truth about france, Chirac ignores global atrocities in power pursuit
Genie replied to bodypilot90's topic in The Bonfire
They could have just chose not to vote. The US is mad at France more than anyone, because they went out of their way to get other coutries to vote against us. One could say, "well the US went to other countries to get them on board". That is true, but our object was to show those countries it was in their best interest. these are my views)*** Saw a thing on teletext news the other night that GWB got congress approval for $80 Billion. This is for the war and "to reward key allies" - yup i guess it was in their best interests to go along with the US ! Genie Chris -
*** If you get hit with rubber bullets and other non-lethal rounds in the process, tough luck, you should have better knowledge of who you are protesting with. Beside, your not going to die anyways, thats why the are called NON-LETHAL in the first place, to make it safer for EVERYONE.*** edit for spelling not commenting on the atory, merely a factual point. Rubber bullets are meant to be non lethal - but they can and do kill. A number of people in the North of Ireland have died after being shot by rubber bullets by the police force. http://www.relativesforjustice.com/plastic/plastic.htm "The use of plastic bullets has proved to be one of the most controversial aspects of policing in Northern Ireland. The weapon has been responsible for the deaths of 17 people, seven of whom were children and, although few reliable statistics exist in relation to injuries, the number is believed to be in the thousands. Furthermore, many of the deaths and injuries occurred when there was no public disturbance (the usual justification given for the firing of such bullets): according to the inquest findings, for example, only two of the fatalities occurred during rioting" although on further reading it appears there are different types of plastc/rubber bullets some of which are more lethal than others. Dont know which your guys are using. Im just wondering - and not saying this will/could happen - but if someone were to die after being shot in a protest - what would the likely effect of that? 1) Serves them right, they shoudl know who they are protesting with or 2) the cops have no right to kill people who are exercising their constitutional right to assemble peacefully? ( this is just to show extremes, i would be interested in hearing what you guys think might happen in this hypothetical situation.) Genie *edited to add link and story

We're not, SH is. According to Body Pilot in another thread in dz.com, apparently it is Saudi Arabia... i believe the thinking was "Well we're getting Sadaam because he didnt have anything to do with 9/11 (although Bodypilot says he did but couldnt back that up) so then we will go after Saudi Arabia who do have stronger links with the 9/11 atrocities.. Hey i just remember these things... Genie

Whoa there! I wasnt even getting into that! I have no idea what they have used and wasnt saying that because theres a factual error in the quoting that its means its Right! Far from it! Accepted. Probably not - but if english was a non native language for me and i kept hearing apache helicoper - i might think they were all called that - or i might not - i agree he should have used quotes.. And a side order of cycnicism! I agree completely. Hey, theres a war on. people are using propaganda as a weapon - how naive are we to think they will use a MOAB but not lie in the papers?? Genie nathaniel
-
To be fair he never said the helicopter dropped the bombs - heres the relevant section of info "The deputy administrator of the Hilla hospital and one of his doctors told a confused tale of military action around the city in recent days, on the road to Karbala. One of their operations — if the hospital personnel are to be believed — went spectacularly wrong one night when militiamen forced them to retreat. Shortly afterwards, the cluster bomb raids began, although the villages that were targeted appear to have been on the other side of Hilla to the abortive American attack. 2. apache helicopters don't disgorge troops, they're 2-seaters 3. you don't have to be very resourceful to come across US-made bomb fragments in baghdad these days, or to transport them from where they were used to other locations*** Including the little parachutes he is talking about? This is a question, i know d*mn all about munitions. Do other types of bombs have little parachutes? BTW - im not saying in anyway that what this man wrote was gospel or anything like it - i genuinely have no clue but am going on the basis of disbelieve everything right now because i presume that both sides are using the propaganda weapon as much as they can. But the points you were making were perhaps not taking everything into consideration.. nathaniel Noelle

Yes, it won't mean much to those caught in the crossfire, but I don't want to hear again how "It's just about the oil". isnt it great that you have that option... Im very tired at the moment and i know im not thnking very clearly but ive taken your argument to mean: we are fighting this war to free that little girl. its not ok that she personally got hit but it is ok to accept collateral damge (a phrase i loathe) in order to free all the other children. - is that right? by the same logic then it would be ok to use children as test animals for vaccines and drugs because while the subject might die, its so important for all the other children who might get sick in the future? Ends dont justify means. And hey the war isnt all about the oil - but it sure as hell isnt all about the humanitarian issues - if it was why is iraq the only country that has to be invaded? Re missing the mosque - that wasnt to protect the mosque, that was to protect the US from screams of sacrilege and abomination..imo. Genie

I know! I even surprised myself when i read back! I do go on a bit dont i? Actually we arent really in disagreement on that one - I was very anti the entire concept and then had a big chat on the wreck with a guy who signs in as TomB and he gave me another point of view which moved me from anti war to understanding why it was going to happen and being very glad that i wasnt the one who had to make the decision. I think you got that from my comment that if you wanted to save servicemen then you shouldnt have sent them there - this point has been elaborated on much more articulately than i can manage so i wont labour it here. But, you need to remember that the coallition has lost 50 lives because we are being "TOO" careful. We are respecting the innocents much more than we need to under the Geneva Conv(sp). Under said convention we have the right to attack hospitals, churches, mosques, if they are being used by the enemy for defensive reasons. If they are using a human shield, we "Legally" can shoot, and the legal fallout is on the hands of the person taking the hostage. But we are not doing this (yet). I therefore suspect we wouldn't use NUKES. It would defeat our overall purpose. However, do know that that option is "ALWAYS" on the table. I would suspect you would see some real "Shock and Awe" if they use WMD, but you will not see nukes in Iraq. My opinion of course. *** And you have every right to give it! No i do appreciate your courteous reply - i was very freaked at the idea that a nuke could be used to shorten the war and save US soldiers and even more freaked that people seemed to be accepting that as a rational solution - thats why i jumped in. I may say Andy man said exactly what i wanted to say and in a much clearer and shorter form so im going to shut up now

Genie: i respect your thoughts. but the nuculear weapons, if utilized will not be "in rataliation of a hated leader" if utilized, it will be to bring an "abrubt end" to the war***. Thank you for your respect rgoper but youare equating apples with oranges here. Whether or not using nukes in japan was a good thing, im not getting into. However at that time America was at awar with a nation of people whose culture dictate death before dishonour. This is not the case in Iraq. You say the iraqis know what you have and they know you will use it - the iraqi government probably does - not the iraqi people. I cannot under any circumstance say that America using a nuke in iraq can be positive in anyway. In Japan it did cause the country which would never have surrendered before, to surrender. But this is NOT the same situation. I would guess that about 80% of the iraqis would love to surrender now - but if they do their families will be killed. Or, they will be killed by their own side, or they remember the promises they were given if they had an uprising before when they ended up massacred - te problem in all of these threads seems to be the underlying assumption that the Iraqi leader will act/think/react in the same manner as a sane middle aged american. this simply isnt the case and the longer people act like it is the longer this will all go on. From watching the news when i can i have the distinct impression that this will end up a guerilla war - and in such a war all your much vaunted military power doesnt count for much. Im speaking from experience here - 30 years the british have been trying to winkle the IRA out of Northern Ireland - theyve never succeeded - and they have 30 years of practice at it with some of the best armed forces in the world, SAS etc. (who also invaded Ireland btw but we never made a fuss about it) What seems to have been ignored in all of this is that Iraq has a lot more practice at on going war - and despite what everyone said about how the 'liberators will be greeted with kisses' - they dont like being invaded. They probably wont like it much more in two months time. And you know - using a nuke on innocents is pretty much guaranteed to make sure they never like being invaded by americans. We know in our country what its like to live with an ongoing guerilla war - you never have. the closest you got was vietnam and you didnt have a very successful outcome there. This is all going pearshaped - but that does not, can not and will not justify you bombing iraq with a nuke because you want to save your soliders lives. If you wanted to save their lives, you shouldnt have sent them in there in the first place. Im sorry to be so harsh, and i dont want to see anymore soldiers die - but at least they had the choice to take that route in life, they have been well told that this could cause their death, that they could be maimed etc - kinda like a waiver huh? and they made that choice. I respect and admire them all for doing so. I am physically revolted at the idea of America using a nuke for that reason. I am also fairly revolted at the idea of using them for retaliation - you think Sadaam wouldnt be cheering if he got you to nuke him? yes hed die - but hed have got his own way, and you have no idea of the pandoras box you would open - remember Japan was just Japan - i have no idea how many muslim worshippers there are in the world - but i guess they would all try to retaliate in some way or another. This is an horrific subject to even discuss and i find it very hard to believe that people can even think of condoning it. Genie (you btw is obviously referring to the US not you personally rgoper!) don't get me wrong, i've always said we shouldn't be there. but now that we are, we must do what we have to. the statistics from hiroshima and nagasaki speak volumes for human loss of life, but the iraqis know what we have, and they know we may use it. it would be to their advantage to "force our hand" by deploying WMD on our troops just to "vilianize" the US and coalition fighters in the world community knowing we could use nuculear weapons in retaliation. that said, iraq knows that if they use chemicals, we might follow up with nuculear weapons. it was my prediction at the onset of the invasion that this war may culmanate with such atrocious and destructive events. it's sad, but true. if the iraquis had any sense at all, they would simply "throw down their weapons" and submit to a superior adversary. but as you've said, and i've said a gazillion times, these people don't think in a rational manner, they are "anshala"

Well yeah it does say something - EBay owns a large proportion of paypal inc... i dont know the truth of the site - but there are a couple of hundred of disgruntled people who had everything from$20 to $10,000 frozen and disappeared on them by pay pal - also apparently there is a class action suit being taken against paypal - just thought the guy might be interested. *** to be blunt i would much prefer to see 100,00 soldiers ( who accepted that risk and are willing to make that sacrifice and had the choice) die than 100,000 innocent people who happen to have the bad luck to be ruled by a dictator for what 20 years and then be nuked out of existence. This is not that i want to see anyone die but if you seriously think in this situation that sending any kind of nuke in will achieve anything positive, then your thought processes worry me.. the US nukes Iraq - even if in retaliation to iraq using a chemical weapon on your troops ( who are invading their country by the way - think how youd react if your country was being invaded) and i guarantee you there will be no country in the world on your side - except possibly North Korea. I guarantee that the US will be the most popular target for any terrorist group standing for anything worldwide. There is nothing good that will come from the US using a nuke on iraq, not in this situation. Iraqis do not think the way americans do - and they wouldnt react the way you think they would.. Ive never been as scared as reading this thread which seems to show that at least some people approve of using a nuclear weapon on civilians to retaliate against an unsupported and hated leader. Genie

I I dont doubt that - but if they hadnt saved your butss in the first place you would never have existed to help them in the future - you'd be nice little englishmen from the colonies... Probably it could have seemed that way - i have actually read all the posts Aggie - heres the thing im not anti american - but this witch hunt against the french is really beginning to bore me. Without saying you personally - you in general ie americans who are continually giong on about how the french owe you - is really beginning to bore me. This argument can be thrown at anyone if you put the right spin on it - hence my throwing in the War of Independence. Americans didnt die in France for France - they died in France for America and for freedom, exactly as they are doing now.. There s got to be some vetaran around from Korea who had their asses saved by the french foreign legion - that happened.. Whats boring me or annoying me about all of this is that i dont like to see americans falling to the level of islamic fanatics - and thats exactly what is happening. The govt of France made a decision you disagree with - so suddenly all french are pussies, cowards, Owe you big time (forgive me if im mistaken but wasnt america attacked by an ally of Germany in ww2 and isnt that why you joined? if i see any more - we went in to save your butts! You didnt. you fought because you were attacked!) - i hate to see this kind of bigotry and prejudice being spouted by anyone - but its particularly annoying when accompanied by a huge smug attitude of "how we are the best people in the world therefore we're all entitled to treat everyone else as we wish" Maybe thats not the perception you want to give (again you as american posters in general not you aggie dave) but its the perception im getting.. And you know what its doing? Im in school with a number of international students a number of whom are from the US. They are being subjected to anti americanism in this country because of the way americans are acting. There was a case at RAF Fairford that US military charged the peace protestors ( on UK soil lets not forget), stole the banners and beat them. They told them they would be in jail for doing this in america - free speech doesnt exist anymore then? I know im rambling a bit here - i agree everyone has the right to an opinino and to express it - but how are you great americans so different from islamic fanatics, when you condemn an Entire Nation - because they disagree with your actions? Heres the key point - i havent seen any french people here or on the wreck coming out and saying "All Americans are baby killers!" which would be just as inaccurate and just as unfair as this constant french bashing. FWIW i dont think the french premier handled the situation well. I think his statement that France would veto every resolution irrespective of what it said was the wrong thing to do and left the coalition with no option but to go to war - but my god, stop pulling in the people who died to protect your country as arguing points! To the poster who said hey F**k the UN we will only let them help rebuild if they pay - that statement strikes me as one with little idea of how the world really works. I'll tell you now this war is going to cost your govt billions upon billions. American companies rebuilding Iraq will charge your govt billions. And bearing in mind that WW2 is over fr the last 50+ years and they STILL havent got back the money the Nazis secreted its a little hopeful to say all of sadaams assets will be seized and used to pay for the reconstruction.. i personally have no problems with american companies making all the money they can out of this - of course thats just reinforcing the negative image of America thats growing worldwide - just as the american negative image of the french is growing. But if thats what you want, go ahead and convince everyone that this is just war mongering it is just empire building and humanitarian aims had nothing to do with it.. Then staff the orphanages for the next 18 years. Genie

i have to say that i do find it absolutely incredible that in all these french bashing, french owe us, how dare they have a different thought from us threads i have read here and on the wreck - i find it incredible that Americans can so sooo guilty of such hypocrisy. Yes Hypocrisy - i said it and i meant it. How many of you that are consistently poking fun and feeling aggrieved that the French seem to no longer 'care for all those americans fighting for France' - how many of you have stopped for even one second and said with the french there would be NO USA ? if you are going to start talking about gratitude for deeds past done, you guys owe France fairly big time wouldnt you say? More to the point - dont dishonour those who gave their lives by making them an arguing point in this discussion - so much for honouring your military! Oh and one last thing - 'french fries' is the american expression for potato deep fried in a chip from - invented by the belgians btw and no one else in the world has ever called them french other than you guys. Sheesh - hope renaming an inanimate object made your congress feel better - can we say grade school kids here? Sheesh Genie

*** thank you for the link. the main things that struck me about it were :The United States said on Tuesday that Marines seized " - im sorry if this is seen badly but to be honest i would really like independent corrobation of that.. The US saying something, while they are fighting a war in the media as well as on the ground.. to me its not true til its proven, especially when the US is desperately trying to prove that going in without a UN resolution was justified. there wasnt a journalist embedded with those troops who broadcast the info, its just a claim - and further in the article they say "The report looked likely to bolster U.S. claims that Iraq has chemical weapons, " - likely to bolster claims... maybe that why it was said? But thank you for posting the link, i appreciate you taking the time. Genie -

Hmmm, I'd love to see where you get your information. Seems I didn't read a thing about this war being illegal in the news. I didn't see a thing about it on CNN or MSNBC. not illegal by US law - see above for international law.. And for oil? Is Iraq the only place to get oil? Couldnt resist this one - are you aware that the US is the only country in the world that has been proven to be guilty of "State terrorism" due to the CIA activites in venezula when the US decided to get itself involved in the deposing of the rightfully elected premier. Hmm - that looks like invasion to me, covert rather than overt, but it did still happen. Guess those 3,000 chemical suits, gas masks and rifles hidden in a HOSPITAL, were just part of the daily needs for hospital operations, huh? . Surely that was his inaugeration? he never said your president wasnt inaugarated - thats not in dispute. The fact that the supreme court, a majority of whom were appointed by his dad, decided to intervene and declare him president does not mean he was elected - unless all of you guys gave the supreme court a blanket proxy. Not to mention over 175,000 people were disenfranchied in the state run by his brother because they *might* have been feons - including one country election supervisor who received a letter telling her not to show up because she wouldnt be allowed to vote.. not to mention Texas - mr bushs own state - also sent a list of about 20,000 people who moved to florida and shouldnt be allowed vote because they were felons.. and hey, i havent even gone near the chad issues, the military votes accepted in breach of the necessary conditions and the duplications... Again, I am sorry, but what news source are you using for your statements?*** Reuters speaking personally, skynews, and CNN Which non american news sources are you accessing? No. Its not. To that young man and the many like him out there, they are there because they swore an oath, and they are going to fulfill it. They are not responsible for the supreme court interfering in the electoral process. they are not responsible for the differing agendas expressed and assumed. They have been told by their chain of command that they are fighting to protect America - and thats why they are fighting. So dont take anything away from the people out there putting their lives on the line because you disagree with the war. Im very sceptical about the reasons for the war myself - i am not cynical about why those people are there fighting - and how dare you try and take that away from them? Perhaps im wrong and thats not how you meant it - but i did read it that way. Hes fighting and he is prepared to die FOR HIS COUNTRY - whether you like that or not. Genie -
you could. and maybe it would work. but do you really think one country should go to war with another because they were in the same side on a war before? Especially if they disagree on why they are going to war? thats why WW1 happened - it wasnt started by the Germans, it was started by the Austrians who pulled in the germans.. Genie
