Wow, that wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Moved the entire hook assembly closer to the needle and then timed it. Put it on the machine and it stiches great. It took far longer to modify the opening in the table to accomodate this machine (existing table) than to time the machine. A little tension tweaking and I should be ready to put the rt angle binder on. Thanks for all your tips! Cya

After reading the manual it appears that I need to move the sewing hooks (doesn't look too hard). The timing may or may not need adjusted, but the hooks need to be moved to accomodate the new gauge. Who would of thought, read the manual. Cya.
-
Thanks Marc, I have that manual and will work on the timing.

Basically, after you put on the new needle clamp, feed dog, throat plate, and presser foot, what adjustments are needed to have everything line up properly for operation?
-
Well I finally bought a 2 needle machine. It was 1/4" gauge, and the parts came in yesterday for 3/16" gauge. Easy enough to swap the parts, but there is clearly more to do to make the new gauge work. Any tips or advice for getting this thing to work with the new gauge? I knew it would be more than the parts swap, but the manual doesn't cover this. Thanks

I could be wrong but I believe it is actually Mari's Gash. Pronounced "Mar E". Oddly enough there are 2 different jumpers named Mari.

Well put Bryan. The dilution of critical base knowledge (and a healthy fear of what we do) is going to cause more people to get hurt. Cypress Hill said it best: "when the shit goes down, you better be ready". Cya.

Congrats and welcome to the club. Parenting is far more scary and nerve racking than jumping off of things. It goes on 'round the clock, and the excitement never ends.

Good job on getting away clean. This is not the first time I've heard of people dropping dimes becasue they were not invited, or just not base friendly. Simply put, tell no one what you are doing or where you are going. If they aren't on the load they don't need to know. Hey, that has a nice ring to it. Maybe a nugget. Anyone have any nugs? "If they aren't on the load they don't need to know."

This should be very useful. http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=idaho_blows

None. They are not needed. But as a wise Russian once told me, a false sense of security is better than none.

Its cool to come up with ideas, but in base a solid practical knowledge of gear is needed to design gear. Your fundamental assumptions about what causes 180's and offheadings are flawed. Lines do not just "twist up", they get twisted by the opening of the canopy, PC, or jumper. Keeping the lines eparate in the pack tray would have no positive, and likely many negative affects like increased friction knots and more hang up points. By all means, jump all you can and learn all you can, it just sounds dangerous to me that someone with no experience is thinking about new gear designs when they have not even jumped what are considered gear standards. Did you fly your elliptical? Where did you build it at? I am interested in building parachutes as well. Cya.

They are guy wires, and if a tower has them it is refered to as being "guyed"

A topic I have much interest in. Got a catalog? I build gear and do all sorts of repairs, custom rigs, mods. If you are in the DC area, we are beer, uhhh, here, for you.

*** "So what really needs to happen, is some how create something that keeps the left and right riser line sets from twisting" You can keep them riser lines from twisting by being level when the canopy thingy starts to puff up. Seriously, if your profile is correct you are a student with 2 skydives. What exactly are you doing theorizing about base gear designs when you don't even understand basic skydiving gear terms, much less how base gear actually functions. You must crawl before you can run, grasshopper.

Thanks for the tips. I'll get everyone there early to watch, and I'll just go straight to back flying. Cya.

It is actually a Jack Strap, and Jack K. thought it up in the mid 80s. I jumped one at TF in May, and it was just like a slide down, except for the cool wizzing sound of the strap zinging down the lines. I too hoped for a 3 to 4 second device with nice openings. Its a nice idea but did not slow openings at all. Next!

Damm. We just saw Waldo at the bridge, happy and cheerful as always. We will miss you. BSBD Mark & Kristen

Hello all, Me and the misses are going to Orlando for a week with my entire family, M&D, siblings, and a gaggle of nieces & nephews age 4 to 14. I booked an hour at Skyventure on Thanksgiving afternoon and am looking forward to everyone getting to experience the fun of flying. Anyone have any tips or advice that might make the experience better for the family? Any advice for getting them to turn the speed up for freefly? I've only spent a few minutes in the tunnel and did some back flying, but I am going to need some more wind to freefly in there. I guess I'll take my slow suit and layer up. Thanks.

I was thinking the same thing Chris. I would love to have that on hand for parties, and to have newbies listen to it. Master: You must promise not to cry like a little girl on the phone with 911 if you get hurt. Newbie: Yes master, I will not tarnish the image of base.
-
Man that 911 call was some funny shit. John should stick to his word and quit jumping, and while he is at it get a yellow stripe tattooed down his back along with "Oh god, oh god, I don't wanna die". Should of thought about that before you underdelayed on the easiest object on the planet. Maybe you could get in a Bridge club (cards) and then at least one tattoo is still useful. Man that is funny.

Great e-mail. It sounds like we are getting our message out to the world, loud and clear. "We are crazy, don't F with us" This guy should receive the hard as nails award. He must be Austrailian. Seriously, if a bone isn't sticking out and there is no blood, how can you tell who should and shouldn't jump?
-
Thats really cool. Maybe "BD 2005 Jumpers" will end up on a plaque or something at the park. Very good PR. Nice to meet you finally, yet breifly, Nick. Cya

*** "but in the USA, the rigger is responsible for determining compatibility." Not exactly. The rigger is responsable for the certificated parts, IE, the reserve and the H/C. The main, including the risers are not TSO'd, and not packed or otherwise certified by the rigger. I would submit to you that the jumper who assumes that his rigger is making sure his main and risers are properly fitted and maintained shoud learn more about his or her gear, and assume the responsibilty that is properly their's.
