Scary stories from the old days?
Chrysopelea replied to steve1's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
From Wikipedia: "The name Kill Devil Hills dates back to the Colonial era. Shipwrecks were common at the time, and many of the ships were transporting barrels of rum. When a ship foundered, local wreckers would scavenge what they could of the ship's cargo before it sank, hiding their pilfered rum behind, and sometimes in, the same large sand dunes where the Wright Brothers would later perform glider tests, before flying their first plane from level ground nearby. Since rum was called "Kill Devil," by the English, at the time, the dunes became known as "Kill Devil Hills." You gotta wonder if some of those barrels are still in there... -
Works great as long as it's not your home or business in the free destruction zone. Maybe they should give the mayor's neighborhood that status.

I've had several times in my life where my house floor got flooded due to a burst water pipe, or once, backed-up sewage. That was ugly. Really ugly. And you sure as hell don't want your rig getting soaked in that crap! Put it up on a shelf or something, at least a few inches off the floor.

I'd be willing to bet that's an error on their redesigned webpage. Wanna put a cosmo on it?

I want to allow all cookies then dump after I leave the page. There is no such option there. Under Content Settings and Cookies, see "Keep local data until you quit your browser". Under Manage Exceptions, see Behavior option "Clear on exit".

This! ^ Sun Path has already made the bulk purchase. Just tell them you want to buy a couple of yards off of them. I once wanted a jump suit in an unusual color, and my chosen jump suit manufacturer didn't stock that color, and they didn't want to buy an entire bolt just to make my one suit. So I found another manufacturer who had the color in stock, bought the fabric from them, and mailed it to the company that was going to make my suit.

Those are vertical on the rib, right? And the stress forces are vertical too. So there really isn't any tear forces on those pointy ends. All the stress just goes straight down past them. They would be a concern if stress was perpendicular to those pointy ends, but canopies don't really have nose-to-tail stress on opening. Nothing is pulling on them in that direction.

Chrome, to prevent the saving of cookies in the first place, and don't have to use 3rd-party software: - Click the three horizontal bars in the upper right corner. - Settings - Show advanced settings - Under "Privacy", Content Settings - See "Cookies". There are several strategies you can use. For example: 1) Block all cookies, and then put the web site names you want to allow cookies under "Exceptions". 2) Allow cookies, but under "Exceptions" list all the web sites you don't want to set cookies. You can also use the "Images" section to block a lot of annoying advertisement images.

The purchase of a gun most likely will never result in anyone being harmed. There are 300 million guns in circulation in America, and last year there were about 9,000 firearm homicides. So one out of every 33,000 guns is used in a homicide. And that is seen as sufficient threat to require a background check on every purchase. An abortion by definition is 100% positively going to kill a living being. There are 1.2 million abortions per year in America - 133 times higher than the number of fatalities from firearms. Yet this is a private matter that is no one else's business. Hmmm...

Good post, and I agree. But allow me to play Devil's Advocate for a moment for the sake of the debate to clarify things. Some states have a required waiting period for the purchase of a gun. The idea being that if the purchaser intends to use it to attack someone, or to commit suicide, that the waiting period provides time for the person to cool off and reconsider their thoughts. Why wouldn't that same idea apply to abortion? Before allowing the killing of a future human being, shouldn't we make sure that the expectant mother has had sufficient time to consider all the various aspects of what she is about to do?

First triple tandem base jump 1940
Chrysopelea replied to joejumper3's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Since two of the Stooges weren't wearing harnesses connected to the one with the parachute, I don't think you can really call that a triple tandem. It's more like a BASE triple Mr. Bill jump. Let's keep our facts straight here. ;-) -

A vasectomy doesn't kill something that is already alive. If they're going to make the argument that it does, then they should ban male masturbation. Then we'll all be criminals.
