Did you want to do the full AFF course or a tandem? -
Have you ever done a naked Jump?
skydivejersey replied to Bolas's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I did a naked jump for my 100th. Was ok appart from flappage damage.. took a few days for the swelling to depart. Had it videoed but the camera dude had his camera zoomed in so nothing was caught on camera apart from 2 seconds of whirling male genitalia and a chocolate starfish as I track off. -
even the boat hook?
-
Absolutely. Knew a guy from Guernsey that used to do it all the time...

Deaf in left ear. Does that count.... can I go on the world record? And my mum said I'd never amount to anything

Skydiving becoming MUCH safer for students ?
skydivejersey replied to XWuffo's topic in Safety and Training
In beginning to think this is just a UK / France - or pretty much DZ's I pick kind of problem..... -
Take a boat hook with you. Keep it in your jumpsuit. If you get a bent one you can put it down one leg and it wont interferre with your arch although you may only be able to turn in one direction in freefall. Once under canopy just get it out and use it to hook the slidder and pull it down. Hey presto. Job done.

Its only cheaper if you get of the static line system. Which isn't how it works. I haven't met anyone who got of static lines in 6 jumps. This is the theoretical minimum but never seems to work in practice. Maybe thats how it works in the States but UK / France side of things that would be unusal and the norm would be 12-15 static line jumps. Use those jump numbers and then rexamine the costs and tell me whos getting the better deal? -
I know in USPA its a D license (pre change over) recommended but not obligatory however in France it is a B2 License (relative work license) and 100 jumps. Camera must be fitted with a cutaway system and you must be cleared by the boss. I think its reasonable which is not often you'll here me say that about the French. He will know your skills and levels and if you are ready..

As long as live is there anything that is an uncool skydive???

Skydiving becoming MUCH safer for students ?
skydivejersey replied to XWuffo's topic in Safety and Training
Yes but where is that that static line student in terms of skydiving time for around about the same money. Whats their accumulated time? Whats the $ per second freefall of the above figures? Maybe so. But I have spoken to a lot of students, those that have tried both methods and the proof from my experience is that AFF does offer more enjoyment. Well there's the whole freefall bit to start with... are you telling me thats not fun? It is true I run a club. But it is that just that - a club not a business. I and my friends do not get paid for the work we do despite the considerable number of hours it took to set up and to keep running. hell we even pay for our jumps. We set it up because we wanted to skydive at our home not make money. My arguement is simply not profit motivated. It is safety, enjoyment and based on my and others who learned the same ways personal experiences. As an instructor in all these disciplines can you honestly tell me that there are fewer things that can go wrong on a SL than on an AFF? -
Brave souls. Lucky they didn't open to carrot rain....

Skydiving becoming MUCH safer for students ?
skydivejersey replied to XWuffo's topic in Safety and Training
I did a total of 19 static line jumps. In the UK and France you have to do 3 consequtive perfect jumps (GATW - good all the way) and then you could be cleared to freefall if you went the same day. Anyway its of topic.... SL's I don't like. They are not as safe as AFF, they are not cheaper in the long run, they are certainly not as much fun as having an instructor along for the ride. I just still can't see the advantages. Maybe things are slightly different stateside compared to the European way of doing things. If anyone ever asks how they can get into skydiving the answer will be the same every time. -

ooohhh....!!! If you are really interested in my SL history it was this. I jumped at Netheravon in the UK. Unfortunately it was one of the windiest dz's in the UK. I would spend everyweekend there for 3 months, then have to pay for a retrain. Then maybe I get lucky and get 2 jumps in before another 3 months looking at the windsock and then shelling out for another retrian. I managed in 2 years, despite probably spending every other weekend at the DZ to get 13 jumps in. And that included 4 in one day. Always seemed to get to that GATW - just one more to confirm and then it would be 2 months later when they let me go again. In which case it would be "it's been 2 months better to another one... oh the winds up!". 6 years later I find a DZ in France. 6 SL's and off to freefall. I don't know how it works in the States but the average number of SL jumps in the UK / France seems to be around 12 from the people I have spoken to. D'ont think its down to slow learning. -
Felix Baumgartner's wings

I like the quote "The Skyray is an attachable wing system which expands skydiving to skyflying" Even they appreciate it is not skydiving!
