Red Rock Skydiving-Cottonwood, AZ
Moosie replied to JaredoftheRocks's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Just got off the phone with someone who's jumped there many times. She said the landing zone is small, and somewhat on a hill. She also said it's a great little DZ and fun to jump at. Good family friendly DZ. If your'e going to take a weekend to jump then going to Eloy is advised. but if you're just looking for a day or a few jumps then Red Rock is good. I plan on heading down there on July 2nd to get a lay of the land and maybe some jumps. Where near Sedona are you moving? -
If you let me know when you'll be there I could make the drive down and jump with you.

Congrats!! I also got mine a week ago. Feels good, doesn't it?!

Dara Thai and Little Thai Kitchen are my faves for Thai. Diablo Burger if you want a fancy burger. Mama Burger if you want greasy, yummy burger and fries. Fat Olives for Italian. Salsa Brava for Mexican.

You've got some great suggestions from these peeps. If we get a good monsoon season I'd avoid the lava tubes. If we don't, then definitely hit them up. If you want restaurant suggestions, let me know.

They're based in Tusayan, AZ, which is the town just outside of the national park. I imagine you get views of the canyon while flying to altitude and jumping, but i doubt the gov't would ever allow them to jump into the canyon. There's already a huge industry for helicopter rides over the canyon, based out of the same airport. No idea on camopy sizes, though.

iFLY / ISG Patent Battle Ends, Fliteshop Project Terminated
Moosie replied to cpoxon's topic in Wind Tunnels
T-105 may have been around since 1941, but based on tge translated website it's designed and used for modeling aircraft flight. So even if T-105 had been patented in the US iFly's patent for indoor skydiving wind tunnel use would probably still be considered new, non obvious, and novel. In the US it doesn't seem to be a matter of first instance, first use, or first concept, but rather first to the patent office. My company and another recently ended a very lengthy battle over patent rights (30 or so years in the making, and rather historical, so I'm told). It came down to speed of patent application and not proof of invention. -
iFLY / ISG Patent Battle Ends, Fliteshop Project Terminated
Moosie replied to cpoxon's topic in Wind Tunnels
It's my understanding that new and nocel uses are patentable. If that's the case then iFly claiming their wind tunnel technology for indoor skydiving is new and novel, even if they simply copy and pasted the majority of an existing wind tunnel patent. Disclaimer: I'm not a patent attourney and only have enough legal IP understanding to do my day job. -
Yes, not good for those who live there. This is another example of how we have changed things, and are not in command. Sure, we can keep things from burning for awhile, maybe even a few years, but... The whole west is designed to burn down regularly in areas, and when it's prevented from doing so, it goes up badly, and spectacularly. It's so true. I live in Northern AZ and see fires often. We don't get to control nature, we just like to pretend we do. And someday nature's going to get tired of it and show us who's boss.

Haven't officially started yet. I do FJC later this month. Been biding my time with some tunnel time. Can't wait to actually start AFF!

Welcome to the boards!

Dan Fielding was my role model. Dan was the biggest boob on the show.

Check the weather reports. Another storm is supposed to be coming in Thursday (at least in NorAZ).
-
Welcome! I'll be down in Eloy on Friday for some tunnel time. Great job on navigating the dust devil!
-
Welcome to the boards! Good luck with the waiting. I do my FJC later in May and hope to finish up my A before July. The waiting isn't easy. Good luck, Splat!

Wasn't microanalying. I was nodding along in agreement with everything you wrote until I got to that part. It threw me for a loop. Had you said kids instead of girls I wouldn't have read it twice. Just wondered if there was a reason. That's all.

Help me understand why you got specific up there, please.

We have them around here too. They have a sign that says something like "Left turn yield to oncoming traffic on flashing yellow arrow." Like they think people actually read signs. We have another one at a pedestrian crossing by a paper mill. It used to have a traffic light, but too many people ignored the light because it was green except for shift change. So they put in a "better" light. People push the button, yellow lights start flashing, then steady red, then after a little bit, flashing red. Yellow means "go fast and get through", steady red means "Stop and wait", flashing red means "Stop at line and go when clear" (there's a sign that says that about the flashing red). Does anybody actually follow those directions? Take a guess. We had, for two weeks, temporary signs that said something like "Traffic change ahead," as if that's adequate for direction or for getting the word out to everyone. This town isn't so good with traffic control

We have flashing yellow turn lights. Tons of tourist traffic in this small town and no one knows what to do with flashing yellow lights. I hate the flashing yellow lights

Nothing wrong with a little Moose I have some in the freezer.....make a good moose stew. Moose stew is awfully tasty. That's not even some weird euphemism.
