Thank you very much. Based on these calculations, my initial hypothesis that flying time in a tunnel is mostly expensive due to power costs is wrong. This is probably a good thing as the power costs are probably the the most challenging to diminish. Can anyone else pitch in to make me understand where all my money is going?

Organising balloon jump
flyingwallop replied to flyingwallop's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am worried the balloon guy might not be too happy when I let him know we want to jump off his ship. Or are you implying we get on as tourists and then whip out our rigs once in the sky and jump off ? As much as i'd love to see the pilot's face i don't think this would be realistic. For example does he need any special approval from aviation authorities? -
Organising balloon jump
flyingwallop replied to flyingwallop's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Their is a hot air balloon tour company close to where I live. How do you suggest I propose to them a balloon jump. I am assuming they have never done it before. I would like to show up over prepared on the matter as to make their decision making easier. .... oh no, I am not yet qualified to do such jump and shall not attempt it until I am. I just like to research and fantasise about the future. -
I am wondering, out of curiosity on the destination of my hard earned cash, what the costs of running a tunnel are. Say 1 hour of runtime. I am assuming the main cost is electricity. Why is stopping and restarting the tunnel a no no?? Any detailed info would be of interest. thank you

skydiving manufacturers influenced by BASE gear?
flyingwallop replied to flyingwallop's topic in Gear and Rigging
Another thought just came to mind. Is any manufacturer making gear for both skydiving and BASE? Why not? Excuse my ignorance. I am new in this world. -
skydiving manufacturers influenced by BASE gear?

should they be? discuss. -
I think this article written by Matt Gerdes on headgear will be of interest and it shines a light on a rare case of safety oversight in skydiving. http://base-book.com/headwear

I suppose at core of the issue is the fact that the jumpsuit , mostly, saps any individuality from the characters. I watch modern footage and I see a homogenous group of playmobil figures. If instead I watch something from the Crosswind days I see some magical characters sky riding. Perhaps the evolution into technical gear has sapped some style. But certainly some inspiration from snow rags is due. I am superficial.

my brother is a pilot can i jump out of his plane
flyingwallop replied to flyingwallop's topic in Safety and Training
Hey thanks eveyone. It was just a thought to begin with and although I have now gained much knowledge thanks to you, I can reassure the more apprehensive ones that this wont happen anytime soon. Perhaps, once both I and brother have a few more hours in our logbooks.... The future is bright. -
oh this is music to my ears. I was fearing an extended reply starting with tshirts flapping over your handles and all sorts of fall rate issues. Although I am very much interested in knowing what the issues might be. Can anyone elaborate to educate??

I have not jumped yet and am already worrying severely about the dubious fashion. It seems it all went wrong after the Freefly Clowns in the 90's. Can one jump with his own clothes as a freshly licensed beginner?? What to avoid?? Or when is it safe to style oneself?

***Thank you. If you like, you can jump the canopy when it is made. Here's a technical looking image which should hopefully make it look like I know what I'm doing, even though I have no idea. t-shirt design here ....is what i meant

my brother is a pilot can i jump out of his plane
flyingwallop replied to flyingwallop's topic in Safety and Training
He replied with a quick no.... until I supplied the idea of travelling around the world flying/jumping in unspoilt spots. Then he decided to look into it. He has a private license. I will study the many replies below. thank you -
DA' KINE RAGS resurrected once again
flyingwallop replied to flyingwallop's topic in Gear and Rigging
I apologoise for the click bait title but after a long and uneventful search for info and used suits from Da' Kine Rags, I have decided to post here. Can anyone tell me what happened exactly? Some say the company/brand was sold. To whom? Shouldn't someone resurrect the models/cuts asap? And is there any connection with Dakine sports gear? ciaox -
