  1. Considering the deceased aircraft crew member died in 1942 in what was no doubt an emergency bail out and has been frozen in ice since then, I doubt that he would have had a modern skydiving safety device with him. Then again, we can't assume the press would take the time to research what an AAD is. Were they to do that, they would probably have to recognize the sarcasm of my post, since AADs weren't invented until what, the 60s? That's still over 20 years after this crew member died in an emergency bail out. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 6. ?/3/1 The night isn't over, so I can't speak to the first number. I made my 500th too, (Way to go Katie and Squeak!) So, I owe beer for the 500th. A fun day of jumping. Vint . . . . . 7. The WSU Cougars went to Reno to play a game yesterday evening. One of the Green Berets jumping in with the game ball had a hard landing. Here's one of the mentions by the local (Spokane) newspaper: "Unfestive as the pre-game atmosphere was already, it grew horrifically grim when Green Beret skydiver Dave Larson crashed to earth in the perilous wind, breaking a hip and fracturing his left arm as he left an ugly skid mark in the turf. Ready for some football? Eh." Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis

  11. Exactly. You do something stupid. And that's what they do - stick you with a nickname you wish would just go away. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  12. Thank you Lindsey. To dump this off on the the education system and leave the parents out if it is wrong. It's the parent's job to socialize the children. If they can't do it, how do you expect the teachers to? Education teaches the primary skills to get on in life - reading and writing and math. It teaches you to be an informed citizen so you can vote (social studies). Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 13. Saturday West Plains flew 10 loads in between cloud and wind holds - three teams in the 10 way speed star scrambles got two loads each. We even did a 'low' load Saturday to test the cloud base and got 9000'. Sunday with fewer jumpers and they made 7 loads. And there is a cloudless beautiful day today with jumping going on. Can't blame the weather this weekend. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  14. Currently in Spokane, on the dry side of Washington, 69 degrees, mostly cloudy, 36% humidity, winds at 13 mph. A bit cool, but nice. I'd jump it for sure. Then again, we don't jump much from Nov. to March. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." Doc Ed “A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free” Nikos Kazantzakis
  15. Nice one, Dave. And I can open dz.com at work, while Hotmail is blocked, so... might be a good idea. At least you didn't say it ws because of my Apple and Netscape. Vint . . . . . 16. Anyone using Hotmail having this problem when you reply to a message? It reverts to HTML code and is crap. The recevier gets it looking like this too, although a rsponse back to me straightens it all out again, until I respond back. Here's an example: ----Original Message Follows---- From: deleted To: "deleted" <deleted> Subject: RE: On the off chance Date: Sun, 12 Jun 2005 22:24:51 +0000 Well, this is a surprise. 17. I agree with the Adobe Go Live choice. I put together a site for the car club I'm in and it took me about 10 hours or so - I had a little training before hand from the school district I work for. It's easy and intuitive if you've done any kind of Powerpoint work or anything like that. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 19. One of the laptops is an older (3 years old) iBook with Airport card (don't know whether it's a,b or g) and the other is a newer Powerbook with a g compatible Airport card. Anything I should worry about making it work with a Linksys router? This is interesting. Is there a wireless for dummies book? Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 20. Okay all you wireless internet experts: I have DSL. If I want to make it wireless, do I merely need to change out my cable router (connected to my DSL gateway) to a wireless router? Can I still connect my ethernet desktop connections to it? Both of my daughters will have their wireless laptops home for the summer, and I want to be able to be online and not share my desktop. This way, they can sit in their rooms and we can all surf. Thanks, Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 23. Congrats. As a UW grad, I can honestly and without bias say it's a great place. And my daughter starts there in the fall as well. Say hi when you see her. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 24. My daughter made a tandem last August and I got to lurk it. It was great fun and I've watched the video a billion times. She hasn't watched it once. My wife did three student jumps (under rounds in the 70s) before she decided it wasn't for her. I love 'em both for giving it a try, and if my daughter could afford it, I'm sure she'd be active and happy. Maybe in a few years when she gets the college thing started and under control. Have to get her out of high school first; that's in a few weeks. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again." 25. Pat didn't like the pic I posted, so here is a few more. First - she rides a bike, so she's ready to leave for a trip last summer Second, she and my daughter posing at Christmas. (My daughter always calls me friend, so she counts here too.) They are both beautiful friends, and for various reasons, they will not be in my daily life next year. In my heart, but I won't get to hang with either of them. Vint . . . . . "Make it hard again."
