  1. With me it isn't so much how many jumps but how long since the last jump. I usually jump every other weekend and they're pretty much gone at 70 jumps. If I wait a 3rd weekend, I notice a little. If I go a month, they're back in full force for the first jump of the day. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  2. Not only would I cross it, if they were hiring replacements and I needed a job I'd hire on in a heartbeat. I guess I'm too much of an individual for the whole union/mob mentality. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  3. Glad it all worked out for you and you're still with us! I think I'll stick to what I was taught and that 3rd attempt will be a silver handle. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg

  5. I did my AFF in Nov and Dec so the temps were not always the most comfortable. Being 6'2" tall, the student jump suits were usually quite a bit too short, leaving the lower calves and ankles exposed to the cold air. I didn't look very cool but I had no problem telling exactly where my legs were. I think it was someone here that suggested something along the same lines. Do a jump with no socks so you can really feel the air on your ankles to help develop leg awareness. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  6. It's also the unexpected that you need to be prepared for, like in this thread by our very own Sangiro. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=242477;search_string=pocket;#242477 _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  7. Actually for me, the absence of that feeling was one of the biggest surprises on my first jump. I was all prepared for it and it just didn't happen. To be honest, I don't remember it on my cut away either, but I'll never forget the sound the 3-rings made. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  8. If your proficiency card has been stamped, it is your A license until you get your actual card. So as long as your card is signed and stamped you shouldn't have any problems even if you haven't sent it in. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  9. 0:4:2 2 good jumps sat and 2 on sun. Sunday did my first crew jump and my A licence check dive. Finally got that A!!

  11. Someone posted a link a day or two ago that listed the agendas for all the committees. It's on the Safety and Training Committee agenda, but I didn't see in on the full boards agenda. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  12. I try to pack as soon as possible after landing. Just feel better knowing the canopy is protected and the rig is back in the gear bag. I also pull it back out and do an inspection sometime during the week at the house. Being a beginner, I need the practice anyway. Packing at home, I can take my time and look everything over. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  13. My father and I both did AFF1 the same day. I loved it and continued, he didn't and has not jumped since. Ended up he spent 3 times as much as he needed to find out it wasn't for him. Might I suggest a tandem progression? A lot of DZ's offer a course that starts usually with 3 tandems and then you move to AFF, usually at level 3. To my way of thinking, it has a lot of advantages. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  14. You have to get in a position where you and your instructors can leave the plane together and with proper positioning. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  15. Depends mostly on the plane, size of the door, and the type of instruction. From the caravan, I stood just outside the door with 1 JM inside the door and one outside with me. From the otter, I sat in the door with 1 JM inside and 1 JM in the door with me. Your instructors will go over the exit with you several times, usually with a mock-up of the plane door. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  16. Evidently my coach had a similar method, but he'd harped on both looking and physically checking each piece of the gear before each jump so I caught it. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  17. Because sometimes you see what you expect to see, instead of what you are actually looking at. I give mine a good tug while checking my 3's before exit. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  18. www.dqnt.com/acc.htm Seems the confusion between the two general rules being discussed is the difference between a Wrap, and an entanglement. According to the referenced site, in a wrap the bottom jumper should cut away first, in an entanglement, the top jumper is first. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg

  20. My library has it, along with several other skydiving books I've bought, read, and donated. If I ever want to read it again, I know where to get it and in the meantime, someone else might learn something from them. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  21. My parents are totally OK with it. My dad did AFF level 1 the same day I did. He decided once was enough, I couldn't wait to get into the plane again.
