Longmont City Council will take up skydiving noise
ShortStack replied to stratostar's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
So, um, could the DZ get a seizure of her house to pay her court-ordered debt? Then the DZ could evict her, and be done with her. Sell the house to collect their just dues. Kimmie would move elsewhere. Everyone in Boulder lives happily ever after. Except for Kimmie's new neighbors... -
And the Darwin Award winner for Friday the 13th is....

It was an alligator, not a snapping turtle. -
Drunks frequent convenience stores late at night. They impulse buy nearly anything. "I'll have a case of Bud, a six-pack of Red Bull, that pocketknife, some Gummie Bears, and that drone."

Yeah, ridiculous. But people are so dumbed-down now about cars, that they aren't expected to be capable of maintaining them by themselves any more. For example. I took my 14 year old truck with 230,000 miles on it, in for an oil change at Firestone. They noticed it dripping a little oil when they put it up on the rack. Yeah, it's old, it does that right after you turn it off. They refused to change the oil for me! They said that my truck could run out of oil out on the road somewhere, and that I would blame them since they touched it last. And that they couldn't accept that liability. Really? I explained that I check the level frequently, know what the loss rate is, and keep it topped up. No matter, they wouldn't do the oil change. It's now corporate policy that vehicle owners can't be expected to check their own fluid levels anymore... And it's now my personal policy that Firestone won't be getting any more of my business.

How are jumpers supposed to get a C license if they are forbidden to jump with an A or a B? This would mean no student program at the DZ, and only 200+ jump experienced jumpers allowed. Of course, this is just a back door way of trying to shut down the DZ. -
Ballon jump and digital altimeter... any issues?
ShortStack replied to AlanS's topic in Gear and Rigging
Fixed it for you: Balloon jumps are really fun, and unlike any jump from a moving aircraft. -
Should ParaCommanders be used only with cutaway systems?
ShortStack replied to pchapman's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
What Jerry said. Whether you cut away or not really had nothing to do with the type of main canopy you were using. It had only to do with whether or not the reserve parachute had a spring loaded pilot chute. No pilot chute? No cut-away and hand deploy reserve. Pilot chute? Cut-away and pull reserve ripcord. And it just so happened that Paracommanders were becoming popular about the same time that pilot chutes started being put in reserves. So the two things can appear to be linked, but really weren't. That's my understanding... -
Left the door open on the back of a FedEx delivery truck once. You shoulda seen the boxes strewn down the road!

Universal, snag resistant GoPro mount.
ShortStack replied to LeeroyJenkins's topic in Gear and Rigging
There is still a major way that a line or bridle could wrap around that camera. And since it is on top of the head, it would be near impossible for the jumper to figure out how to get it un-done. [inline GPM1.jpg] I think the trapezoid mount is upside down. Flip it over so that the sides are smooth and tapering coming from the helmet to the camera. This is why rig container closing flaps are tapered, because it's a shape that allows things to slide off when they wrap around it. [inline GPM2.jpg]
