From http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/oog/info/twip/twip.asp Table 1. 2007 U.S. Supply and Disposition of Finished Motor Gasoline (thousand barrels per day) a. Production 8,989 b. Refinery and Blender 8,344 c. Refinery 5,111 d. Blender 3,232 e. Adjustment 645 f. Blending Components 569 g. Fuel Ethanol 76 h. Imports 406 i. Stock Change -23 j. Exports 127 k. Product Supplied 9,290 Source: Energy Information Administration, Petroleum Supply Monthly, February 2008, Table 4. Now that seems to show you import much more gasoline than you export. Actually, I was think more along the lines of harvesting the american fat problem to solve the european energy crisis. I do live in Germany where the idea of recycling humans is not entirely new. What do you think Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

On America's New Energy Future The World Health Organization estimates that 38.8 million Americans are now "obese" - i.e., 30 pounds or more overweight. That factors out to 583,000 tons of body fat. Since a kilogram of human fat contains 7,200 kilocalories of energy and a barrel of oil generates 1,410,579 kilocalories, Americans are hauling around (at minimum) the fat-equivalent of 2.92 million barrels of oil on their bodies. If the concept of "flab gas" leaves you flabbergasted, prepare for a shock. Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital reportedly has signed a deal to supply Norwegian entrepreneur Lauri Venoy with 3,000 gallons-per-week of liposuction leftovers harvested by its clinics. This bio-fat could produce 2,600 gallons of biodiesel, sufficient to fuel a Hummer for a year. --------------------------------------------------------- Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

The North Pole:- we hate to say we told you so, but we told you so

You can all look foolish together, I dont care Guys? Why don't we all just worship NASCAR and call it a day? Because there will be no NASCAR in 2012. Sorry $140 a barrel and no end in sight. Wake up. The Fossil fuel age is at its end. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -
$3/gallon gas, $100/barrell oil, and US foreign policy
speedy replied to nerdgirl's topic in Speakers Corner
You can place your bets here. I voted for $154 within the next 60 days. All we need is a hurricane in the gulf and we will easily reach that price. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -
No , they did not land with the line over. I guess it cleared on it's own, the TM did not mention it and the canopy looked OK just before I turned. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

The tandem landed with out a cutaway. But it does look like a line over to me. See attached photos. Edited to add third photo. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

I think you did not read my question properly. I quoted you as saying that oil would be priced at $90 a barrel without the speculators. I say for all ( and more) of the reasons you give above that oil would still be at $130 a barrel without speculators. But that is standard for debate here, ignore the context of the question and run off in a different direction. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

There is no bubble to pop. China and India also want to drive cars and acheive your standard of living. That requires oil and they will bid against you to get it. The production at Mexicos cantrell field is crashing. Start looking at servere shortages along the gulf coast in the next 6 months. If you get a hurricane restricting production in the gulf of mexico you are well truely f***ed. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

And the effect would be nil, zip. The oil companies don't set the prices, the market does. If supply does not meet demand, the price goes up. It really is that simple. Expect the price to reach $250 / barrel by July 2009. Expect Mexico to be no longer exporting oil to the U.S. in 6 years. Expect Russia to stop exporting oil in 9 years. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Would This End the NO DRILL Rules We Currently Suffer Under?
speedy replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
I am not sure if the US is getting sick of option 1 just yet. But everyone here should read what Bill has written above and take some time to really think about it. Maybe looking at this will help. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -
Frustrated drivers are trying to sell their gas guzzlers.
speedy replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
Everything you suggest should have been started 20 years ago. Further up in this thread you mentioned oil being $122, it is now $123. We are not in a position to supplement the declining supplies. It just won't work. When gas in the U.S. hit $6-7 a gallon we might start to see a reduced demand that will slow the price increase of crude. In 5 years time, skydiving will be history (unless you are in the military). $150 a barrel at the end of this year is optimistic. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -
Should the US Release Oil from the Strategic Reserve?
speedy replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
Ouch, that's $420 per barrel! Yea, we'd definitely be working on alternatives at that price. Shit... I meant gasoline. Oh well, either will work I guess. Save this post. If things continue the way they are going your original figure might be on target in a few months Point 1. In the UK they are already paying $10 per gallon of gas. Here in Germany I only pay $8 a gallon. Point 2. The U.S. uses over 20 million barrels of oil a day. That's nearly a quarter of world consumption. Point 3. The russians and arabs are not going to be able to increase their production, EVER! Sorry guys, but you are up shit creek without a paddle. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -
Why I jumped a whole Season with a BASE rig from 13K ft...

Why I jumped a whole Season with a BASE rig from 13K ft...
speedy replied to badlock's topic in Gear and Rigging
Nick, you seemed to be of the opinion that the reserve would have opened in that configuration, albeit with controlabilty issues. I have thought a lot about this and I am convinced that the slider would have jammed during the initial opening phase. Do you reallly believe that the slider would come down? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -
You meant that as joke, yes? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

It is your attitude that results in nothing being done to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. Let's all install linux and the world is saved! I think not. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

The only time I have seen volcanoes forwarded as a major contributor to a rise in CO2 was in connection with the snowball earth theory. In this case there was so little vegatation on the planet that any CO2 emitted from volcanoes could not be absorbed. This was one of the theories of how we got out of the snowball earth. The climate experts have another reason for CO2 lagging temps. The reason is a natural warming cycle warms the oceans, this causes out gassing of CO2 from the oceans, which causes more warming. A positive feedback where CO2 is the feedback if you like. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

You will find that as canopy size is reduced and wing loading goes up, you body position in the harness during opening will become more of a factor. If during the snivel phase of the opening you tend to have more weight on one leg strap (or the leg straps are not evenly adjusted), the canopy can twist up on opening. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
-
But..... this small amount of warming due to CO2 is going increase the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere, warmer air can hold more moisture. Water vapor is a much more potent GHG than CO2 and this will cause yet more warming. This leads to, guess what, more water vapor and more warming and killer droughts. I am not too worried about this as Kallend has assured me that the most common greenhouse gas is not water vapor but CO2. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Because normality is an illusion. It never happens. What is normal is the middle point between the extremes. It is only a theoretical description. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

The noted Colorado State University forecast team expects an above-average Atlantic hurricane season Maybe a case of third time lucky? Surely they can't be wrong three years in a row Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Yeah, I know you did not accuse him of lying. I did not want too either. I just was not sure how to put it. Either way, there seems to be some confusion concerning the canopy found which I would expect the FBI to clear up. Maybe they have cleared it up and just not informed us/or the media.
