  1. AMERICAN BOOGIE 2005 June 23rd-26th Peliminary info is up. More to come as the boogie draws near. Guano and Roger Ponce organizing, taligate aircraft, 2 Pac 750 XL's, Helicopter and much more. www.americanboogie.com www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

  3. I'm sure there will be someone there of amble experience to help you. Are you getting coaching? Ask you coach but I would suggest to wear them from word go if you had a little more experience. Not as important for you now. It will make you fly as if you would be in the air and give you much better muscle memory of what your proper body position will be. My 2 bits. Weights are good. (If you have a slight fall rate issue that is) www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  4. The Orpahnage, a post production house in SF and LA has some really nice software to make video look more like film. "Magic Bullet" for Premiere Pro, After Effects and Final Cut. Good stuff. The boys there are former ILM so they realy know there stuff. http://www.theorphanage.com/ also, goto recentn projects and read the write up on "Falling" a film that was shot at skydance, in davis where the filmaker threw a camera mounted in a 3 foot rocket like housing out at 30,000ft. 3 mins of footage pointing at the ground all the way to impact. He did well at Sundance. This incredibly simple film actually captures our worst nightmare of skydiving. Going in. http://www.rolfgibbs.com www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  5. well I found some more info on the LANC control. I thought it was a universal excesory but it isn't. CONTROL-L: Sony's wired edit control protocol, also called LANC (Local Application Control), which allows two way communication between a camcorder or VCR and an edit cotroller. CONTROL-M: Panasonic's wired edit control protocol. Similar to Control-L in func- tion but NOT compatible. A big bummer. This puts my decision on the Panasonis cameras in the con column. I really need the cam eye to knwo if the camera is on. I hate relying on others in the plane. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  6. Glad you got the problem solved. Now prove it and go jump it and show us some pictures. I beleve the 20d will work like the d60/10d and have little problems. I feel like I'm falling behind in the arms race. I had one of the first d60s and now the 20Ds are all over the air. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  7. I wrote a tutorial on wiring the cinceptus to canon cameras on my site under the tips section. wireing for full time autofocus, you combine 2 sets of the wires. This might be the solution. Give it a try just by splitting the wires, stwisting them togeter and using tape as a temproy hold as you experiment. Hope it works... http://www.petergallistudios.com www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  8. Big grippers are more for the heavy piece turning of yarding your piece partner around. Laying on hands or "monkey hooking" the legs is a much bigger target and faster to get on and off while also showing to the judges. If you are doing fun 4way and bigways. Get smaller grippers to help with the fallrate. But if competitive 4way is something you want to pursue, beefy grippers are somthing you and your teammates are going to enjoy. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  9. Big Bad Relgion fan. My favorite is "no control" I have to videos with there stuff on my site. "Flocking" and "Supersonic" [url]http://www.petergallistudios.com Fast paced, hard hitting, and short songs. Great for videos. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  10. Using aperature priority is a bit sketchy for freefall if the light is starting fall at twilight and if a dark (black ) jumpsuit or whit are in the frame. Setting your camera manually with the sunny daylight rule works best for noraml light conditions. 125th @ f16 for iso 100. or any corrected exposure from this. I'll look for a write up on this. Its a basic rule but works 90% of the time. Here is one that I think explains the rule in abasic manner. I think a lot of photogs make it way too complicated and get too technical with it. http://www.explore-art.com/photography/S/Sunny_f%5E16_rule.html I'll look for another that explains the process in a simpiler manner. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  11. I don't do a lot of posting but thought this was a least a healthier topic to give my thoughts. I also see the big picture that you are trying to make. Greater exposure for skydiving. I think the middle ground is hiring a media/marketing person/firm by the uspa to make it happen. If they need footage the will be able to find it from the camera fliers and compensate them for it. The money is there. being paid will give the camera fliers the means to keep their gear maintained and up to current satndards. Cameras and skydiving gear. I get paid for 4 way jumps. Nothing to get rich off. For Guano the freefly team I'm on I cover my slot as part of the team. All the competion training costs us a lot. Well worth it. The best jumps I do all year. There is a happy middle ground, when asking for footage, find a budget that makes each party happy. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  12. I just looked at the spec sheet on it and there is no listing of a LANC port. Well, that's a pretty big bummer. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  13. I agree with you here. I do a lot of jumps paying my own slots to flim the fun jumps, sunset loads and xxxth jumps for my friends. I'll give them a fire wire/dvd/vhs. They are my friends. I know a lot of camera fliers that do this for free. Rarely are you going to find that. The pros are usually given the higher profile jumps. But I have to say that I find your quote of that a bit insulting saying that some of us posting about sound professional practices who have been doing it longer than you state your jumping years, are "Whining" I think you and douva should do a little more research and really sit down and talk to your local camera fliers. See what their opinons are. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  14. I don't see a reason to change what the norm in a professional business practice. I shoot, I sell. They want they must buy. If i want to use footage of someone they must sign a model release for me to use in a project or advertisemnet. If I sell a picture I own the copyright and the client pays for limited useage at standard rates, or the pay big bucks to own the image. Thats the cliff not end of the legal side of the busniess. Why change it? If they say they would like the footage for reason above and beyond the nationals video then they need to compensate the photgrapher. Simply that. I'm not trying to bust your balls on this but you are really being vocal on this that can really effect someone's pocket book. Like mine and a lot of others. The broadcast indusrty has money. They can pay standard rates for our footage. And its all about principle. Do you pay your camera flyer? www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  15. Skydivers rarely start conservative. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  16. I'm guessing they will. The "L" or LANC port is a accessory port which is very universal for a number of decks. edit units and zoom controls. I will hope and can just try. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  17. "The only way for skydiving on TV to work is if those of us who love the sport and live off the sport can mutually agree to forgo our own economic ambitions for the greater good of the sport. I'm not talking about giving up any money; I'm just talking about agreeing to not get paid for something you probably weren't going to get paid for anyway. " -------------------- This is not the only way. If we maybe had more competions my might have a chance. We were in the x games. Was our timing off and the people not ready for it?could freefly make it entertaining now? The venues are there we just are not getting asked bythe promoters. ---------------- " I'm just talking about agreeing to not get paid for something you probably weren't going to get paid for anyway. " " I'm not giving up any footage for the greater good. That is a defeative additude of "you prbably weren't goinf to get paid for anyway" Well, ya know its mine and if anyone wants to use it I will ask for compensation. If aoptional agreement can be arange and I'm comfortable I'll go with it. But its still mine. BTW, when has anyone bought the camera flyer a beer or dinner for making them famous on the DZ or TV. UH? No matter which DZ, the most common thing I hear is "look at me" when the videos play. Only a handful of people acknowledge my work and dedication. that might be why I have great footage of them. Buy your camera flyer a beer some time. Because we can also get footage of you screwing up or maybe we move you out of frame...... www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  18. Count me out as a test subject with you guys. I don't want to be fried, baked or blasted with radiation. Hell I would be miffed if you guys gave me a bad sunburn. The last thing I would want to hear from you guys would be "ooops. That didn't work but let's try the smaller laser." But good luck...... www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  19. sony or other. I've seen a JVC Hd which was crap flutter problem, and one other flyer at the nationals with one of the Panasonics. Panasonic makes good cameras. They are probaly a second to sony in the broadcast indusrty. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  20. All footage is usable. Even competiton footage. I'm leary of giving away footage as once it is published and is viewed you might have a hard time to sell it a larger forum. I have every chance to sell competion footage. Some people wouldn't know it was or wouldn't care. I would like to know if we can figure a better way to work out how the competion fliers are handing the footage and not getting compesation for it. At least the team could get a discount for it. But I also see if this was any other sport televised or to tape, they would require a model release as it is much easier to have their crew which is obviously on the ground getting images of you. We know that the process going into so we either make a case for it or don't compete I guess. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  21. Jayhawk, do you use the camera at all. I've only seen and held the camera. Wondering how you like it? It is a big camera. a bit bigger than the Sony PD 150/170 and VX 2000 cameras which are a bit big themselves. But manageable to mount. They are really the only 3chip cameras that function well in freefall. Sony's new PDX10 is a smaller 3 chip pro/prosumer camcorder but has a problem with freefall vibration with the 3 senors. A freind and I tested it, including taking it apart trying to solve it to no success. I'll be interested in your findings on the quality of the air footage. Especially to know if it does or does no have the flutter problem. Still waiting to hear if anyone has jumped the new Sony HC1000. ITs a new prosumer 3 chip. I need a new camera and just want to know if it has the same flutter problem as the PDX10 before I buy it. Even with that said I'm looking at the Panasonic line of 3 chip cameras. There are 3 models ranging in price from $600 $1,400 which are small in size good quality cameras. I'm losing my loyalties with sony as they continue to change cables, batteries, buttons from the camera and hide all the functions under som many screens in the touch screen. In addition Panasonics models are top loaders which means once it is mounted on the helmet or tripod you can easily change tapes. Let me know how the camera flies. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  22. But I've already explained that they're not making money, you are getting credit, and it's not the type of footage you're likely to sell anywhere else, so what's the problem with donating it to the betterment of the sport? Giving it away for the betterment of the sport is nobel, but undercuts professional video fliers at all levels, (big names to working class video fliers) when you request compensation at current video rates and an amatuer hands it away for free. Anytime someone undercuts indusrty standards it kills the market. I'm not talking about price fixing. Its simply a profesional camera flyer(video or stills) works hard to guarntee quality shots and should be fairly compensated for it. Yes I would like to get rich doing what I do. I a professional photographer in and out of the skydiving world. But my definition of rich is making a decent living and retirement. I have lost a lot of jobs to amatuers for the " i don't do this for a living, so here you go" or " I'll do it for half his price" and they don't come thru on the job. Getting paid for thr work and calling yourself a photographer let a lone a pro photographer in my opinon means you are holding yourself up to a high standard of professionalism in quality of the work and guarentee the project. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  23. It sounds like you have the video quality at low and when the camera moves you are just seeing the high amount of compression. Burn another one and double check the output setting and make sure it is at high quality. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  24. there are some videos on my 2 sites of our (guano's) free routine. A lot of training clips in the videos. go check them out at the sites below cheers. This is open but something for you to draw off. The nationals vidoeo should be finished soon too. keep checking http://www.omniskore.com for info. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
  25. Jp is that the 4mm or 14mm? Just wondering. I know they have an 8mm but have not heard of a 4mm. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
