I did an intentional cutaway on the same system last thursday and had a similar deployment (without the twist). I don't know for sure if the thread had been attached prior to my jump but I'm sure it was for yours Tim, I watched it get packed although I didn't look to see if it had gone through the bridle. I'm interested to see another way of keeping the skyhook attached since this way isn't reliable. I should also be under an inflating reserve in this pic. RSL deployment from a cutaway at 1500' was not what I had planned but it was a clean deployment and lots of fun. If you get the chance to try it, go for it. What things have landed (crashed) near you?
flymysky replied to vonSanta's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This one didn't land near me but it was pretty funny. I had a cutaway on a tandem jump and the other TMs on the load watched where my main went so we had a good idea of where to look. Driving slowly along the street we spotted the main draped over a cable that went from a pole to the corner of a house. It looked like it had landed on the roof and slid down to rest on the cable. On the roof about 10 feet away was a guy doing repairs. His eyes were huge and his face was a bit pale. We told him it was our canopy and asked if we could borrow his ladder to retrieve it. He just nodded slowly and never said a word. I wonder what he thought when it landed My candle burns at both ends It will not last the night; But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends - It gives a lovely light. http://www.galaxygear.com.au/ -

I have confirmation from all except Crapflinger and TheAnvil. And we can take our pick of rides: the brown van has music, the two-tone has brakes, the white bus has music and brakes and a couple of seats for the ancient ones, but it's slower on the highway. We could take a vote.

A beach tour in the otter would rock! But..... It's too late to change the plane, pilot or number of passes. We're committed now to one kingair load. Next time we'll give a whole lot more notice and I think they'll be more flexible. Cost will be 2 jump tickets. I need to hold slots now (cc#) but you can pay on Saturday. So far I have details from seven people. Bring your USPA D license # and expiration date, and re-pack card. And Beer who said that?!

A Fairy Tale Once upon a time, in a land far away, a beautiful, independent, women was contemplating ecological issues on the shores of an unpolluted pond in a verdant meadow near her castle. A frog hopped into the Princess' lap and said: "Elegant Lady, I was once a handsome Prince, until an evil witch cast a spell upon me. One kiss from you, however, and I will turn back into the dapper, young Prince that I am and then, my sweet, we can marry and setup housekeeping in yon castle with my Mother, where you can prepare my meals, clean my clothes, bear my children, and forever feel grateful and happy doing so." That night, on a repast of lightly sauteed frogs legs seasoned in a white wine and onion cream sauce, she chuckled to herself and thought: I don't fucking think so.

I have an optic with the articulated ringsight and I found that I don't need to use it, I can get the helmet on and off easily without moving the site. I like to move it out of the way when I'm under canopy and for landing so I like having the swivel. On about my tenth jump with the optic I had a really hard opening and the whole thing nearly came off my head, I just caught it in time. I called bonehead and got a chin strap and cutaway system (about $32 for both). I mounted both the chin strap and cup so that they will both cutaway when I pull the loop. I have the chin strap sorta loose, it's just there as a back up. I pull the cutaway every couple of weeks (on the ground ) just to make sure nothing has changed, like a bent cotter pin or something wierd.
