That is ridiculous! HIV is similar to Hepatitis -- contagious, transferred from bodily fluids -- yet the main problem is HIV?! How would you like it if you had to disclose that information to a complete stranger? Having HIV or any other chronic illness has nothing to do with the quality of training or safety the student will receive. People who are uneducated about this or fearful contribute to the negative connotation attached to being HIV positive. HIV positive does not always translate to AIDS. see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com

Winter Jumping at Skydive Green County
rocketdog replied to jazzjumper's topic in Events & Places to Jump
RaNdOm QuEsTiOn? is this an every weekend deal (weather permitting obviously) or is it like "The DZ is open every weekend that it's jump-able...."? Basically, do you always have the plane / the interest? see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com -
hey hun, well you DEFINITELY need to be proficient on your belly.... ya know: tracking, stable, turns, etc. but pretty much that is covered in your student progression (i would hope!) don't let anyone tell you what to do! skydiving shouldn't feel like you HAVE to belly-fly before you can freefly.... if you wanna learn something new, i say DEFINITELY TRY IT! if you wanna go out & flail the next 20 jumps -- do it. you catch my drift. as a precursor, I would make sure your rig is freefly-friendly & that you have proper altimeters (visual/audible) ....things of that nature ***HAVE FUN*** let us know how sitting goes! see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com

Definitely not overkill..... especially since you could resell one of em! A lot of instructors @ our DZ have two rigs.... that way they can make back-to-back loads, or just not have to wait for their rig to get packed. And yeah, it definitely allows you to do more jumping. In some cases people have a little more conservative, recurrency canopy in 1 rig, and their regular canopy in a second rig.... must be nice to have $$$ see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com

SMART & POOR...... ......have you ever seen the Jessica Simpson show on MTV or the Anna Nicole Smith show?!?!?! i think that proves the point! see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com

Big door is the LEAST of my worries (well, i'm an RW-er either though).... Not to mention, cheap jump tickets are not worth it IF it takes you half an hour to climb to altitude.... Prime example: it was close to 90º in Lake Wales, and everyone crammed into a CASA for $17. Pretty cheap comapred to up north but it was SO loud, SO hot, SO slow & not to mention the risk of fuel being dripped on your rig..... Just an example! see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com

Aggie, Static Line is not outdated at all.... ? Static Line is great because students get a basic feel for freefall and canopy skills. This is just my opinion, but as an instructor I would rather have a first-time S/L student than a first-time AFF student. Aff = 60 seconds of unpredictability (not to discredit AFF instructors in any way) It's like comparing apples with oranges see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com

did you buy beer for that solo cutaway? Honestly, you did awesome.... when it's all said & done, YOU are the only 1 who has to fly that canopy (or lack thereof) *safely* to the ground. Lesson learned, glad you're alright & still jumping... screw those people see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com

seems to me -- and this is purely based on personal experience -- that A LOT of the skydivers i've come across have an aetheist/agnostic view.... ....anyone else agree? i don't know many skydivers that get up & go to church on Sunday mornings either (maybe it's just always been blue skies?! ) see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com

i believe they are having a concert in Columbus REALLY soon (if it hasn't already happened) but i'd be on the look-out... i've heard only good things about them! see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com

i would guess that people jump barefoot for 1 of 2 reasons (or a combo of the two): #1 for the cool feeling -- ya know, wind through your toes #2 because they don't consider landing off, having a reserve ride, landing on pavement, etc. ???? any comments see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com

Going to FLorida in March . . . which DZ?
rocketdog replied to sdgregory's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
WHY NOT GO TO THEM ALL??? i've never been to Deland or (whatever the other 1 was) but Lake Wales has a HUGE landing area -- good for people who haven't acquired accuracy yet! And if you haven't jumped a tail-gate, they've got em (but i think Deland does too?!) ~And Z-Hills is always a fun time, with loads flying through out the day ....fast otters! ~Titusville is a smaller landing area but MINIMUM altitude is 15' with a super fast King-Air ...'nuff said *HAVE FUN see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com -

who has had zero g in a jump ship?
rocketdog replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
this past summer our pilot got into a Zero G kick & began doing it @ least once a weekend.... .... by the end of the season we had jumpers doing flips/cartwheels/all kinds of acrobatics during the weightlessness -
i think its important to know how to pack your own canopy.... HUGE PET PEEVE if you can't! although -- if i had the $$$ to throw away after every jump i'd probably have a packer too : ) it can be hard on the back after a full day of jumping... see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com
-
the appeal for freeflying (for me) was simple.... ....you spend the entire student progression working on skills preparing you for more advanced RW so when i got off student status, the LAST thing i wanted to do was be on my belly again -- @ least til pulltime it was fun to go out & attempt to fly NOT on my belly for once.... whatcha think? see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com

Sabre 2 Color Template nah.... i've heard Safire2s and Pilots are better than SABRE 2s.... i'm sure its different for every person but for me Sabre 2s have openings that are too slow -- we're talking multiple end cell closure every time! see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com
