  1. Luigi jumps Infinity containers, he can keep up with someone in freefall when he is under canopy, and videos don't do him justice. You need to see him swoop in person to get a look at real speed. As far as subterminal openings, I have heard the VX is not the nicest opening canopy at terminal, but I have seen Luigi at full altitude once or twice.
  2. Since you are a conservative canopy pilot, why would you want a high-performance, elliptical canopy? you never know when you might be on a straight-in approach and be cut off, forcing a low turn. an elliptical will turn faster than your sabre, increasing your odds of an injury if you overreact. yeah, you can talk about flat turns, but I am of the belief that conservative pilots should be on conservative canopies. pull low, it's higher than you think

    lucky bones

"eat your cereal with a fork..." is from pump up the volume...next time, make it more obscure, eh?
  4. make sure your rig is tight, i.e. flaps won't come undone, good riser covers, BOC or pull-out, tight spandex pocket if BOC,some reccomend against hackey handles for freeflying. wear an audible and visual alti and a cypress (high speed collisions are more common in freeflying because of higher speeds obtained). have fun! pull low, it's higher than you think
  5. Ignore the weatherman. Last weekend I thought the weather would suck but we wound up jumping all day (before 8:00 to sunset) on Sat. and until 5:00 on Sun. with a minimum of 10,000 and usually full altitude. This was at Elsinore, about the same weather as perris, right?
  6. congratulations...it also will be sharks' 100th jump (if he shows) and my 400th. PARTY!!!
  7. if you feel you want a gear check before boarding, get one. a gear check has never killed anyone, complacency, on the other hand...and if some jumpers don't want to give you a gear check, you're asking the wrong people. I would never roll my eyes if someone asked for a gear check, no matter how busy I might be. And you should always ask for a pin check before exit, in case you accidently dislodged a pin, but don't check someone else's gear without asking them first. I had a experienced (over 1000 jumps) jumper give me a pin check and then could not figure out how to close my main pin flap. luckily I was belly-flying that jump and did not need my flap a closed as it can be ( A racer with velcro + tuck tabs)
  8. ther is not one simple answer to this question, but you should decide what you will do before your next jump. the key seems to be in avoiding this sitution. Make sure your pilot chute is cocked...is you use packers it would be smart to cock the pc. make sure you check the bridle routing. if something does not look right, ask someone more experienced. personally, I would chop a pc in tow, knowing I risk a main/reserve entanglement, but I do everything in my power to avoid having one in the first place. blue skies, black death

  10. someone owes beer for that...
  11. dove, unless you weigh 460 lbs. you are confused. your wing loading was more like .5:1. and I might have been the one that initially said chicks can't land, but notice skybitch backed me up. She has hundreds of jumps, and hates to admit I'm right, but why would she agree with me??? ever notice there are no women entering swoop competitions, few women flying tri-cells, few women jumping anything under 97 sq. feet (even though they would still not be heavily loading it).
  12. it has been a few days now since the accident, so does anyone know how he is doing (the perris jumper, that is)?
  13. Does anyone here jump at Taft? Or used to jump at Taft? Lisa's comment about Troy got me thinking.
  14. As the one who said 50-100 jumps, I feel I must defend myself. I posted a response in the gear forum, but I will post it again. I don't log type of container, just main canopy type/size. I have approx. 250 jumps on borrowed/rented gear and couldn't tell you how many on what kind of container. And to further confuse you, the 250 could be off by 50 jumps in either direction also. pull low, it's higher than you think
  15. I say I have 50-100 jumps on a quasar because I don't log what container I am using, just canopy type/size. The rig, like most I have jumped, was not mine. I have about 250 jumps on other peoples gear (some rental, some borrowed). hope that clarifies it. pull low, it's higher than you think
  16. the quasar is a nice rig, for a low price. I have 50-100 jumps on one and always liked the rig. easy to pack, decent pin protection. Only thing I wanted that it did not have was secondary riser covers like the infinity, vector 3 or mirage. it is a rig that is definately worth a look.
  17. how about instead of streamers, you play with reserve ripcords. people on the ground will be able to see who is winning. of course, the truly gifted will play this game head down (with raven reserves). it's not a sport unless you can die trying
  18. nice theory, but I don't think it holds up. first off, that seems to apply to turns, not how the canopy flares. second, few women I know jump anything smaller than a 120. A lot of guys do jump smaller canopies and don't have a problem. I jump a 120 at 1.6:1 and have no real problems with it. yes, it does turn well, but it lands easier thana 150. chicks can't land
  19. by spending way too much time posting...it takes 50 posts and it changes automatically
  20. zenmaster, the tx thing got called off. i'm back in la-la land. and we are in STORM WATCH 2001 for this week
  21. I did not want to write this in the post "broken body at perris" because we should just leave that without an angry tone. mistakes happen. you are not immune to mistakes. this is why when you are shopping for a first canopy and the rare person tells you to not get that elliptical, to only load it at 1:1, you might want to listen and heed their advice. on smaller and/or elliptical canopies, things happen faster. and if, for some unexplainable reason, you do something like the guy at perris did, you have a better chance of living. don't make the mistake of thinking, well, everyone else jumps a 120, so a 150 is slow. if you weigh over 150 out the door, it is not a slow canopy. look at incident reports. a lot of people die under canopies that are not small and/or elliptical. BTW, I watched a friend of mine, with about 300 jumps, make a mistake on a sabre 150 and he died, so don't think well, I've got ?? jumps, so I won't make a mistake.
