2006 Alaska Summer Solstice Boogie
grasshopper replied to ncfitzge's topic in Events & Places to Jump
In my opinion, it is one of the best boogies out there. Very mellow, but fun. The weather can be iffy at times, but definately worth going. If you are thinking about going, I'd book a flight now, as flights just go up in price for alaska in the summer. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline -

I just brought back a bottle I purchased in Amsterdam. It is made with wormwood and other herbs such as anise, per the bottle lable. I don't know if I brought it to America legally, seeing as how customs missed seeing it when they went through my bags. As others have said, you can buy it online, but where is the fun in that? ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline

Too funny. I did the exact same thing 2 weeks ago also, but without the bet. Eating it isn't the hard part. Trying to chew it for 1 minute proved to be difficult, but at least I didn't get sick. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline

Does your Dropzone have wind holds?
grasshopper replied to valcore's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It depends on the drop zone. as an example, perris shut down this afternoon due to winds, even though people were still willing to jump. I have also seen other dzs refuse to put up a load due to a strong crosswind (over the runway). ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline -
I had a spectre 120, but since it was so long ago I don't have the slider dimensions. I do remeber it was the same width and a couple inches less front to back. I find it hard to believe PD doesn't have an answer for you. I've had smaller sliders on both my spectre and velocity that I got from PD. Maybe you just weren't talking to the right person there? As far as the reflex goes, maybe someone familar with the tricks for packing them can help you out. Riggermick should be willing to give you some pointers, because done right the closing loop should not need constant adjustment. I've seen a couple different riggers bend pins on a reflex from over-tighening, so watch your pull force. Of course, it could just be something as simple as silicone on the closing loop ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline

I have. When I bought my spectre in 1999, I tried every packing trick imaginable to speed up the openings (not quartering the slider, not rolling the tail, etc.) and had no success until I called PD and got a smaller slider. With the smaller slider, I never had excessive snivel nor a hard opening in about 300 jumps on the canopy. The person I sold the canopy to had no complaints either. Then again, I know who you are asking for, and I told him that on Sunday. Also, did you fix that pop-top yet? ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline

does that mean I probably won't spend more if I buy canadian? not having to travel with gear on the trip up would make my life easier. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline

does anyone know if I, as an american, would save money by buying things in canada vs. USA? I will be purchasing a snowboard/bindings/boots in the near future, and will be in canada for a vacation. From what I can find, canada has a lot of taxes, but they are refundable when I leave the country. thanks for any help. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline

hey bart, when you figure out the equation, let me know. it seems to me putting a license number takes away privacy. of course, those people who don't know me will wonder and those that know me already know. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline

and I would disagree with this advice, especially since it doesn't come from a rigger. I owned 2 racers for over 800 jumps, and I liked the rigs (fully aware of the shortcomings). yet, I wound up getting rid of them because I couldn't find local riggers to make them look good. I've had 3 riggers that made my rigs look good, but one rigger left the state, one got sloppy as his job dissatisfaction grew, and one retired from rigging. this was in so. california, at major dz's (perris/elsinore) and I wound up changing rigs ($$$$) because they were not rigger friendly. why would anyone recomend a rig their locals riggers don't fancy? my advice would be to buy a rig that is common where you jump. it will be easier to sell, and your rigger will be familar with it, rather than figuring it out for the first time with your rig. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline

yes, you've got me there. but my profile also lists container as not a racer. maybe my profile says those things because many people have associated me with them for many years, but things change. both dz's have good points, and if you want to know negatives, pm me. I have a few hundred jumps at elsinore, and about the same at perris, so historically I haven't been to biased. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline

Does that mean that Perris if farther away than elsinore, or "IF" you go to elsinore first, perris is 20 minutes away? the 2 dz's are about the same distance from la. depending on which roads you take, perris may be a couple miles closer. it could be said if you go to perris first, elsinore is about 20 minutes away, but the truth is if you go to perris first, you probably won't want to leave. perris truly has everything you need (tunnel, 3 otters, skyvan, restaurant/bar, swimming pool, etc.). as for travel times on weekend days, I usually could get to either dz in about 1:10, without trying, but I do drive fast. when trying, I've had it take under an hour, but figure the drive will be around 80 miles. driving back to la in the evenings is very time/traffic dependant. I have been finding the traffic from perris to be a little lighter than from elsinore. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline

Do you want to see video of skydivers burning in?
grasshopper replied to Vectracide's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
hell no, I don't want to see video of anyone "burning in". that being said, there are 2 disclaimers: 1. if it is someone I know, I would rather see it, than be told about it. I have witnessed a friend dying, and other people who saw the same thing had a different opinion as to what happened. I realized that point of view is different from fact, and it is usually difficult to determine fact. and 2, I think some people need to see someone "burn in", to realize how serious skydiving can be. it seems a lot of newer jumpers don't realize a error can result in death, since this sport tends to be relatively forgiving of stupid mistakes/ ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline -

how do you feel about so. cal.? but this confuses me: if you are providing the favour, how would it scare you? wouldn't you be more concerned with scaring me? oh, and I can pack fast ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline

my personal favorite, from recent experience: steal all of his credit card numbers, and then make charges to websites that offer $100 horoscopes, and other intangibles. the credit card companies won't do anything other than reverse the charges and cancel the card, and the companies with the fraudalent charges don't care because it is an intangible product that costs them nothing. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline

thanks, brett. this has been one of the most entertaining threads in a long time. I feel, for sport rigs, there is nothing wrong with double stowing lines. the locking stows don't usually need to be double stowed, and I don't feel good about double stowing them, but I have done it many times without any issues. and for the rest of the stows, well, I haven't used small rubber bands since mid 2000. for those that don't know me, I have about 5-6 years packing experience, so I am not just relating what has worked for me, but for hundreds of my customers over the years. I don't pack tandems, and probably have less than 1000 pack jobs on student rigs. then again, this is just my opinion based on years of packing at busy dz's. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline

I'm not someone who usually plays the lotto, but I have bought $100 worth of tickets for me. twice. my company gives a $100 bonus in cash for x-mas every year, and since I have no real use for that extra cash (meaning a luxury I wouldn't buy anyway), I figure I'll either piss it away, or get rich trying. the first year I did that, I wound up winning about $30, just enough to cover the taxes I paid on the bonus. the second time, I won around $30 as well, but I re-invested back into the lotto, and I still have tickets to go back and re-invest. either it will be all gone, or I win. I was in PA last year, and I saw a $10 ticket. I was so impressed with the extravagence of it, I bought one, and won 20. that is my biggest lotto winning so far. don't ask me how much I bet in vegas, but I have bought a cypres with winnings from 1 hour at a blackjack table. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline
