  1. jumpshack (they make racers) show that in their owners manual for the proper way to stow the excess on reserves. but then again, the company has a history of doing unothorodox things, so I won't say I agree with all their recommendations. I mean, rubber bands on a reserve? come on, like safety stows don't work? anyway, I see nothing wrong with this method of stowing excess brake line if, and only if, you have hard links. but, I'm not a rigger or instructor, so what do I know? ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline
  2. tell me how a hard opening results in a broken leg? that makes no sense to me. while vsg's hard opening was packed by someone else, as a packer I must defend him. at elsinore (and perris I believe) setting the brakes is the jumpers responsibility, not the packer. and cora's hard opening, while at elsinore, was packed by her. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline
  3. 2 (pairs of glow in the dark boobies seen):5:1 first time I've seen boobies glow. also saw 2 pairs that didn't glow. not bad for a sunday night I also got 2 strange tracking jumps in, as well as my worst run yet at a pond.
  4. but do you know who I am? ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline
  5. [off topic] please don't mistake them having a good field rep. with them having good customer service. they have screwed me over twice now for a military order. the first time was when I ordered my rig, they told me not to spend the extra money on a rush job, that it would only take 4 weeks. I got my rig in 16 weeks, with 4 mistakes on it. there excuse for taking so long was that they got a military contract. I didn't let them know about the mistakes, because I needed the rig. now, what kind of mistakes were on it? small reserve pilot chute (I wanted the big one), wide chest strap (I wanted the narrow one), riser color, and the big one, the actual size of the container. instead of making it for a 120 spectre or smaller, it is 50ci bigger than my racer built for a 135. so that was a couple of years ago. maybe things change. or maybe not. I had to order a d-bag a few months ago, due to mine being stolen. after a couple of months, I called and was told it was in production. after another couple of months, I finally got it, and it is the wrong color. there excuse for taking so long was again a military contract. oh, and the d-bag cost me $72. needless to say, my next rig will NOT be from jumpshack. I don't care how good the product may be, with customer service like that.[/off topic]
  6. I do. I'll give you an 120 microraven. but will you give me your pd126? I've seen enough good canopy pilots eat dirt flying ravens to not want to fly one. and I have taken a 3-5mph downwinder on a pd126rm just for fun, with no problem standing it up. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline
  7. am I the only one scared to open it? I keep thinking of hemaphroditic porn...you know, like in "clerks" ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline
  8. Is this really common? I have never seen this. But the winds in Perris can really cook, so maybe it is common. Really...Is it common? I don't know, I don't use an RSL...But I am interested in this at taft, or what used to be air adventures west, it wasn't that uncommon. I used to always disconnect my rsl after getting a good canopy. when packing for others I would often reconnect rsl shackles left hanging. at elsinore I don't think I've seen anyone disconnect their rsl after opening. so it seems like it could just be one defunct dz where it was common. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline
  9. In my opinion, yes, you did screw up. if you are that low, you should pull your reserve without cutting away, just to get more fabric over your head. it worked for clem major in that exact circumstance. besides, some people disconnect their rsl after they have a good canopy in case thet need to cut away on the ground due to wind, or a dust devil, or something else unkown. the rsl would do them no good in that situation either. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline
  10. why? a long sleeve shirt works just as well, and is a bunch cheaper. plus, I can get a long sleeve shirt without a red logo I feel your pain. you know I do. mine was recovered, but not the way we hoped. look for bad karma to happen to a couple certain people. do you need to borrow a canopy? I have a 135 sabre collecting dust that I'd ship to you if you want. I know it is big, but at least it is out of trim it's yours if you want, on risers and I can arrange a d-bag. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline
  11. disclaimer:I only have 4 jumps on the pantz, and am not an instructor. I would think they would work fine for rw if you tend to fall faster anyway, but they slow down my fall rate something fierce. I got no head down effect, even with a short sleeve shirt on, at pull time. I also have done a 5-way tracking jump with others just in freefly clothes, and I found myself arching alot, and flying arms down to avoid outdriving them. at break-off I got about double the distance as someone I was tracking next to, as well as more altitude. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline
  12. so I did get them in exactly 8 weeks, and they fit and fly great right out of the box. but the color is a sore spot for me. they won't do the logo in any color but red, so I have red and green on my pantz. I look like x-mas in them. so I need to pick the stiching out of the embroidery. that should be good for an hour of entertainment.
  13. I'm going to give him a little time before publicly smearing his name, but I am not afraid to post his name. let's see if I get the canopy back first.
  14. let me clear that up. he is not my friend, not by a stretch. his friend is the one who has the canopy, so I don't actually know where it is. otherwise... and pd knows about all of this. it is tempting to let karma take care of him, but it would be better to recover the canopy first. but if i see it flying anywhere near me...
  15. sorry to post something about skydiving in the talkback forum, but I need some advice. so on new year's day I had a cutaway on a pd demo velocity and wasn't able to recover it. after a few e-mails back and forth pd and I worked something out and the canopy was accepted as lost. so fast foward to july 4. someone who is no friend of mine came up to me and said it was found. the deal is a "friend" who does evictions supposedly found it in a storage locker. it has a green d-bag on it (an identifying feature) and is supposedly in great condition. but the problem is they want me to give $400 for the canopy, which was reported as stolen 6 months ago. what should I do? any ideas?
  16. I think the lightning bolt is glow in the dark, so it is great for warm night jumps.
  17. what's so special about that? perris and elsinore both want to buy me a jump ticket on friday. the only downside is I won't be able to make it over to perris
  18. instead of all these unknowns, could we get some better known people to give the seminars? ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline
  19. Yeah.... poor guy.. saw the rest of his 12 way falling away after the reserve opened..... Could have been much worse (it was a Caravan and the tail on these things comes up in a hurry!) this wasn't the only case of this happening. it happened on a reflex I own to the previous owner (10-way speed, out of an otter). apparently if you hit the pop-top just right it will shear the loop, without too much force. you should be careful on exits (and moving around in the plane, for that matter), no matter how secure you think your rig is.
  20. of course I ordered them custom. the stock sizing isn't quite my size, and as macaulay stated, not my colors. so 6-8 weeks is most likely going to be accurate?
  21. does anyone know the current delivery times for the pantz? the website says 6 weeks but is that to be believed? ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline
  22. just a little bump to remind everyone this is coming up. does anyone know if PD will have demo canopies available again this year?
  23. if you have altitude to work with, try to even your links. when the canopy is spinning in line twists, your risers most likely won't be even. so if you grab your risers and even them, the spin should stop. disclaimer: I have not tried this technique on a crossfire, but in my experience it works on other high performance canopies, so a crossfire should be no different. ________________________________________________________ Abbie drove me to Idaho and all I got was this lousy sigline
  24. yeah, but at least I was where I said I'd be. I thought you said you'd be back to elsinore on monday, but it was just to take your tent and aerobed in the middle of the night, oh, and I did make it over to perris for a couple of hours on monday morning, but I guess everyone partied too hard. I only saw a few familar faces, but no seth and val?
  25. as a packer, I love this thought process. I have seen several riggers, and many others with a lot of pack jobs to their credit, give themselves worse openings than they ever get from a packer. who would you rather trust, someone with 100 pack jobs or someone with a few thousand? this past weekend I had two of my customers (one with about 300 jumps, one over a thousand) come down and bitch about their openings. turns out they both packed their own and forgot until I reminded them. that makes total sense. why not just say that to begin with?
