  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SASSY blue skies, el beecho verde
  2. just thought I'd share. while setting the new dz.com record in perris on saturday, I think I fell in love. blue skies, grasshopper
  3. in the picture with names, you got me right. but who the fuck is roy? blue skies, grasshopper
  4. hey dan, I had greg beecher (runs the loft at elsinore) modify my risers. cost me either 10 or 15 bucks, I can't remember. but I believe they are the same things some people use instead of dive loops. blue skies, grasshopper
  5. actually, the 3 center cells of the stiletto are completely square (no taper). and to further complicate things, there are no truly elliptical canopies, just varying degrees of taper.
  6. people seem to be of the impression that to swoop they need more wingloading and a 9-cell elliptical (or x-braced). in my experience that is not true. technique is the most important part. let me share my experience. I have about 300 jumps on a spectre 120 loaded just under max. rec. wing loading (1.6). I can swoop it somewhat respectably with less than a 180 degree turn. I have started flying a 107 vengeance (9-cell elliptical with airlocks) at just under the max. rec. wing loading (1.8). I am getting very little swoop out of it. If I was looking at the higher wing-loading and/or the 9-cell elliptical over the tapered 7-cell to be my answer for longer swoops, I would be greatly disappointed. I am the first to admit I have a lot to learn about this canopy to get decent landings out of it. moral of my story: don't judge someone else's abilty to swoop based on their canopy selection
  7. count one more vote for the record to be at elsinore. and yes, I can belly fly, just ask hot tamaly.
  8. mike farmer, how do you know andy west. is he out jumping where you are, or did you jump in taft?
  9. so does this mean you need a ride to elsinore this weekend? blue skies, grasshopper
  10. lara: I gave you credit, but, to post it publicly, thank you. (I had some time off and she suggested I go to vegas) shark: a windshield? really? and don't tell me to put money to a new canopy. both my rigs are completely disassembled right now, but both will be complete by the end of the year. trina: I bought the drinks. but where were you? lisa: good luck. blue skies, grasshopper

  12. for everyone complaining how expensive this sport is, I have the solution: gambling! when I was on student status, I won enough to cover 2 student jumps, plus some accessories (logbook, goggles, etc.) around a year later, I won enough to pay for a day of jumping. and today, I won enough for a cypres and a couple jump tickets. ha fucking ha. just needed to gloat about that. and no, I did not have any vegas vacations where I lost money since I started jumping. blue skies, grasshopper
  13. if this was at monterey, I was there. I did 2 helicopter jumps this time. they don't suck. blue skies, grasshopper
  14. I haven't seen or heard much talk about waterproof cypres since their introduction. so my question is, other than cost, are there any drawbacks to them? blue skies, grasshopper
  15. the best: landing fast the worst: backstabbing and DZ politics the easiest: packing the scariest: watching others land poorly
  16. lets see...tib/fib, femur, back... but seriously, a cobalt is a high performance elliptical canopy. try one in the same size you have been flying (170ish) to get an accurate impression of the canopy. a 150 would probably feel fast and twichty at first, but so would a 150 sabre. downsizing alone will give you those impressions without even changing types of canopy. blue skies
  17. as a packer with only a few thousand pack jobs I take offense. it is not my job to inspect gear. people pay me to pack the main, so that is what I do. if I want my main inspected I pay an extra fee to my rigger. it is not my duty to make sure a reserve is in date. leave that up to the DZ police and the jumper. the only reserves I care about being in date are mine, and yes, I have jumped with them knowingly out of date.
  18. it took you this long to figure that out? what finally clued you in? the fact that I did 27 jumps, that I never want to jump again, or the no sex on my birthday? blue skies
  19. you read that right. but it isn't for a weekend, it is for yesterday. no sex, no beer, but 27 jumps. I never want to skydive again! blue skies
  20. okay, listen up all you southern california jumpers...this in an open invitation to spend my birthday jumping with me. on wed. at elsinore I will be starting off the day jumping a 182 until the otter(s) get going, but I will need help keeping the otter(s) turning so I can get my 26 jumps in a day. so, don't make excuses about having to go to a bbq or some other nonsense. let's put up some loads full of dz.com'ers. people who better be there: shark, gia, divaskychick, whiskeychick, jbarrett99, freeflyplaymate, chaz1234, and others.
  21. leave me out of this debate on canopy control! otherwise I will have to start talking about cypres, RSL's, low pulls, hook turns, cheap reserves, and people who spend all their time online rather than jumping.
  22. torture the data enough and it will tell you anything.
  23. pain is temporary, broken bones heal, chicks dig scars, and America has the highest doctor to daredevil ratio in the world. what you are forgetting is that most of us swoop to impress ourselves, not to impress others. when I land out (but on familar turf I know to be free of hidden obstacles) I still use the same high speed approach. Why would I do that if I only wanted to impress others. oh, and the canopy lands better with a high speed approach, not that I can't do a stright in landing. blue skies
  24. hey, shark. you owe me for sacrificing myself on monday so you guys could have low pull contests from the helicopter. how about a free hop 'n' pack ticket?
  25. Q: how do you piss off winnie the pooh? A: stick 2 fingers in his honey
