A quick look at the pics I'm tagged in would probably result in one of these two.... looks like the same pose just 15 years apart. T.S.S # 5 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To dream great dreams is itself an act of daring. -Eric Shipton & Bill Tilman ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

First off regarding pie: 100, 500, 1000, and every thousand after that. Regarding beer: Every 100 till after 500, then 1000, and every thousand after that. Additionally, whenever the "first" rule is applied. That damn f word! The reason I brought it up specifically is relating to almost having to chop a main on a rental rig when the brake line had tied a knot around my finger. Had I pulled lower and not had time to fix it I would have cut the brake line to free my finger. If I didn't have the knife it could have really sucked. Considerations when chopping a rental canopy
Skypup replied to Nightingale's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've had almost the exact same thing happen on some rental gear. Brake line got a nice tension knot when I unstowed.. Unfortunatly it was around my fingers so I was attached to my brakes. Had I reached my hard deck, which was almost the case, I would have hook knifed the brake line and then made a real quick decision whether to land it like that or chop it. (Would have been a much uglier decision if I didn't have a hook knife on me. Might be tuff to deploy a reserve if you have a chopped canopy streamered off your fingers.) Fortunatly, I was able to hold the other toggle with my teeth to keep from spinning much and then free my fingers with the other hand. I wouldn't have changed a thing if it was my rig. I'm curious how many people remember to grab their knife when flying a different rig. I just wanted to agree and point this out again, just incase someone skipped reading it the first time. If you actually touched that hacky/pud or whatever...and nothing happens...cut away any ways...you never know. Someone had a pull out and nothing happend, but when he went straight to that reserve instead of chopping, which is what many think to do, but what happend? his reserve released presure on his main and poof out comes the main as well. Not a pretty sight to see. I know people want to argue this point and say end the skydive, but if you think about it really, in my opinion, wouldn't it be better to have to go searching for that main after chopping, if it does fall out, then having to deal with two out? Which most of the time who wins that war? Of course I would rather have 2 out than having the main barbor pole up the reserve lines (as they can do when cut away) leaving me with a choked off or uninflated reserve. Wow there is a pile of things to choose from. I would say one of the dumber ones was planning a 4 way that involved 3 of us tuning a couple more points after the newer jumper left at 6. Got 3 more in, tracked breifly, deployed, then watched a cypress fire mid-snivel. Took that one WAY too low. He landed the 2 out and was fine. Sweet!!! Nice to see your coming over to the dark side. Did you ever take my advice and do some aid on TR to practice piece placement? If not you should. It was one of the most informative trainings I ever did. What's that smell?!?! Smells like nuts, hexes, and a couple cams.... must be a new rack.... Up in Hollister we have an S3, 2 GTI's, a Classic 2, and 3 demo suits. Not bad for our little DZ. With the demo suits we are likely to expand, kinda like when a crack dealer moves into your neighborhood. As the man who introduced naked creeper racing to Byron, I'm not all together shy about being naked. If I had a pull up chord on me I'de pack up and hitch back. No need to wrap myself in a canopy. Thats what a helmet is for. Just hang it on the pole whenever a cop or other easilly offended person comes by. Other than that hopefully it's warm. I too used to be a CS junkie. After 1.6 I switched to AA. Kicks ass especially for a free game. It has most of the things that got me playing CS. The only thing i really want them to implement is a mic for radio coms with your team. I have some friends on the DEV team working on it. =o) If any of you play look me up.. same handle as here... Leroy you really need to get a new place to host that site. I've tried like 15 times to get in there and you are allways above your allowed amount of BW. Practicing rear riser manoeuvres at altitude
Skypup replied to conor's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
So the transfer should be smooth, occouring before the rears get mushy. Is there any other indications of when the "right" time to switch from rears to toggles is? Should you just use the rears to help it plane out then let up right away (but smoothly) so as to let the canopy fly without any distorting input?(akin to tapping the toggles to help start plane out in a non rear riser landing) T.S.S # 5 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To dream great dreams is itself an act of daring. -Eric Shipton & Bill Tilman ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -
I think I'm in the mini gear rat category. 2 Complete rigs with cypress (Jav -sabre , Voodoo Stiletto) 4 jump suits including one WS (new RW suit on the way) Helmet 2 audibles 1 visual 2 weight vests and my own free packer (also know as a roomate) Not bad for my second year in the sport. I'm happy to say that after playing EQ for years I was able to leave my beloved test server. Unfortunatly I got sucked into DAoC. I loved that game, it was just unfortunate because I spent even more time playing that than i did EQ. Damn that frontier. Now all I play is Counterstrike and Americas Army. Finally my game time is not overwhelming. I never want to go back, it's so nice to have a life outside the games. I highly recomend getting away from MMORPG's, real life is better. Rear risers without "negative" recovery arc?
Skypup replied to Skypup's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I was wondering if anyone has played with the rear risers to change the recovery arc of stilettos. Does the shallower arc extend your swoops or is it less efficent than the natural recovery arc? I'm kinda partial to my red black and white. That said, I don't like the metallic looking fabrics. I would say go for your new colors and use the light one (best in white) for the wings and then dark colored ribs like Phree's suit or Seb's canopy. I really like that look.
