Err... I think you missed my point, and francks. I'm familiar with the incident also. I don't think he meant you should only spend five minutes with someone who will have exactly the same kind of collison. How could anybody know that? I just meant that it's good to see everybody's responses here on dz.com and it would be good if all the newbies got a chance to hear from lots of different experienced skydivers, not just the one.

I copied this from franck102's recent post in talk back when asked if there is anything he needs. This guy sounds like a good candidate for at least 5 minutes of someones time (someone other than the dzo who gave him the great advice in the first place). BTW - I was thinking last night that wouldn't it be cool if this guy gets back to the dz and the instructor says "What?? I told you to look for a 220 fool!" *smack upside the head* The canopy you jumped was a 220 not a 120!!"

Tell 'em to scream, it really helps.

Then I don't want to jump under the supervision of this dzo...ever!! I take resposibilty for my own decisions but I think I'm at a point where those decisions are somewhat educated. I think this scenario makes them potentially a danger to not only themselves but everyone else in the sky with them. I think we should be taking care of each other and trying to keep each other alive!

Yup, I gotta get me one of them.....

I love it when the parachute opens and they "go back up!". Did that ever happen before video was available??

I did a search on this and didn't find anything so here goes.... A few months after the Odysseys started getting enough use to hear feedback on them, I was hearing some things about them that made me cautious about buying one. I thought I'd wait longer to hear more but haven't. Some people were saying that the laterals were causing some problems like on a hard opening they would cut into your ribs and cause bruising and discomfort. Also some jumpers were concerned about the possibility of a riser becoming caught in the place between the lateral webbing and the skydivers back. This wouldn't be much of a problem if it were a main riser as the main containor would be empty and wouldn't cause a snag but if the main was still in the bag and a reserve riser got caught in there......?? Has anybody heard any more or have personal experience? I'm ready to buy a new rig and am keen to find out if these subjects have been discussed recently. CM

I know three people with Icarus camera suits. Two of them needed lots of repair work within about 50 jumps. The other one has had no problem and has 200+ jumps on it so far. I think it's worth spending the extra money if you can for a suit with a proven record.

I think this is a really important point. I talked with someone who had a spinning mal and his harness was twisted so far that the only way he could pull his reserve was to hook the very tip of a finger through the metal handle and pull. He swears that if his rig had a soft cushion he would not have been able to pull, especially with the altitude available and no time to mess around.
