  1. Don't think too much about it... just go do your thing and just relax. If your instructors think you are ready, that means you have the skills to do it safely. Just enjoy the ride and go do you thang!! RELAX!! IT'S FUN!!! "We see the world just the way we are...
  2. Thanks Derek... "We see the world just the way we are...
  3. Not sure I understand what you mean... So does that mean you can or can not take the test without packing 20 reserves first? According to your links it says it requires a "Signed letter of acceptance from the Federal Aviation Administration National Examiner Board". What's the letter of acceptance? The rigger's letter stating one packed 20 reserve? "We see the world just the way we are...
  4. I took the below paragraph from Derek's post of "So you want to be a rigger?" The written test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. 2.0 hours are allotted to complete the test. There are no prerequisites to taking the written, you just have to pass it prior to taking the oral/practical test. I have a question regarding prerequisites to taking the written test. I was under the impression from reading the parachute manual that before one can take the written test they must show proof that they packed 20 parachutes and must have a letter from a rigger stating that. Can anyone answer that ? Basically can someone take the test if they have not done any rigging before provided that they studied for the test? I am thinking about taking the test but I have not packed a single reserve yet... "We see the world just the way we are...
  5. That is such a good point. The key to happiness IMHO is balance. There are lots of things in life that are great and skydiving is definitely one of them. But not the only great thing. Some skydivers eventually do burn out for whatever reasons... If skydiving becomes your life then what will be left of you when something like that happens. I personally don't like to have all my eggs in the same basket for all aspects of my life because the day the bottom of the basket falls out I don't want to be SOL! So by all means enjoy skydiving to the fullest but don't forget that life is bigger than a DZ... My 0.2c "We see the world just the way we are...
  6. Now that is something to motivate people to get a tandem and AFF I rating... "We see the world just the way we are...

  10. I actually quit smoking when I started to skydive!! I thought that skydiving was way too cool and that I would want to do it for a long time... I had a flash, immagining myself at 60 coughing my lungs up strolling a bottle of oxygen... Not so easy to jump with a 10 gallon tank hooked to your stomach. I know it sounds cliche, but skydiving truely got me off the cigs... That, along with the 25 packs of empy cigarettes I found on day in my car when I cleaned it Freaking disgusting to imagine that I smoked all those packs... Be smart, don't tare your road to heaven. 11. Thanks everyone, I guess my idea of the sharpie was not so dum after all. I think i am going mark my kill line in green or something... that should be easier to see. Blue ones! "We see the world just the way we are...
  12. I recently got a new Wings and I have a concern with the cocked window on the bridle. It seems that the black paint they used to paint the part of the cord that shows through the bridal window when the pilot chute is cocked fades after cocking the pilot chute a few times. So that means that the once off white window is now dirty gray and the once black part of the cord inside the bridle is now sort of gray as well as the part the suppose to show white when not cocked...Everything is freaking gray!! So the bottom line is that it's really not easy to be sure if I cocked the pilot chute because everything is now gray. I never know if what shows in the window when I do a gear check is faded black or dirty white! I thought about using a non-toxic black sharpie to color the cord again, but i am a little uneasy to put any kind of chemical compounds on my bridal cord that could weaken the nylon. Any one faced with the same problem? Any suggestions to fix the problem? "We see the world just the way we are...

  16. If you say so... I guess I am a light weight! Next time I'll start wondering if something is wrong when the plane goes into an unrecoverable flat spin "We see the world just the way we are...

  20. Now that really sucks... "We see the world just the way we are...
  21. Last weekend I was on the way up to altitude with the DZ's beech and the pilot made a sharp banking turn... The freaking airplane, started to beep like crazy!!! You know the kind of beeping in a computer flight simulator when the eject light comes on.. The beeping, added to the feeling of the entire plane dropping from under my butt was enough to get my adrenaline going... The pilot actually stalled the plane I don't know if this is normal thing that sometimes happens, but that was enough to freak me out good! I don't think I was ever in such a hurry to get out of that plane! If you have any good stories of your own feel free to share. "We see the world just the way we are...
  22. I did my training in Lodi about a year ago through SL. I also jumped in all the nothern Cal DZs. My opinion is that you really don't need to drive to Southern california to get a good training. There are some great DZ's in your area that can give you great training. Every DZ has advantages and disadvantages... the whole thing is to find the one that matches your expectations, personality, budget, and learning curve... Send me a PM if you want more info on local DZs... I live in Modesto. "We see the world just the way we are...
  23. what did it for me was on my very first static line jump off a cessna 152 when the pilot reached over me and turned the door knob! The flipping door swung open and hit the wing and I almost got sucked out of the plane from sitting close to the door. The pilot then just looked at me, smiled and gave me the non chalent sign to climb out onto that strut!!! To this day every time I jump from that riggidy cessna, my heart starts pumping!!! 24. It's been almost two years since I actually landed with a plane. I think I will be really crapping my pants when I'll take my next commercial flight. I don't know why but the idea of being on a plane without my rig on freaks me out!!! There seem to be something reassuring for me to feel the snug harness on my body that I don't know how I would feel without it! I'll be flying to europe this christmas and I am really getting scared of the flight Talk about freaking irony... a skydiver scared of flying "We see the world just the way we are...
  25. Yeah I had one of these dreams a while ago... I was on the ground sitting against a wall and when I looked up I saw a guy in a powerful track come down at a a shallow angle and he bounced on the wall right above my head...Kind of like a bird on a window! The most freaky thing was the awfull crunch noise it made when he it the wall... kind of like when two car hits... That dead "Thump" still freaks me to this day! "We see the world just the way we are...
