    chopping?

Well lets see... the first one I had was on jump 29. I worked on the mal for a few seconds, looked over my shoulder at the ground (I was spinning) and thought to myself "I aint got time for this shit any more" and cut it. The second one was on jump 98. A line twister with a spin. I thot "Shit, here we go again. Lets do it better this time". On the first one I cut away and started falling backwards butt first. This one I made a concerted effort to arch hard as I cut and fell away in a perfect arch. Its a tense moment, but its what we train for. Youll do fine when your time comes. Just keep your wits about you. JC
  3. Santa brought me a new 35mm still camera so I can start doing stills when I jump. And a dytter! No jump tickets tho,,but thats ok, ill buy my own! JC
  4. I also doubt the closing loop would have been affected by the difference in temperature. I dont like the idea of tracking to try to get the additional drag on the PC. I think I would have tried to pull the pin like others have suggested, although Im not sure I could actually reach my pin to pull it. Might have punched the side of the container to try to knock it loose. Yes, I would definately have cut away first. When the reserve comes out it probably would have freed the pressure on the main bag and you would have ended up with 2 out (best case scenario, worst case you might have had some entanglement). Glad it worked out for you. JC
  5. Ive been riding motorcycles for over 20 years. Ive been skydiving for about 3 years. Ive almost been killed WAY more on the motorcycle than in the air. Statistically Im sure you would find that riding is more dangerous. However I will say that skydiving is probably less forgiving. You could crash on the bike and come away with road rash. If you crash on a skydive, youre more likely to suffer serious injury. I still ride. I still skydive. Ill do both till the day I die. My Mom probably wishes I would quit both, but she knows Ive found much of my joy in life either on the back of a bike or the outside of an airplane. Let him give it a shot. The smile on his face will tell the tale. CJ
  6. OK, hypothetical questions... Does your skydiver girlfriend / boyfriend get bent out of shape if you go to the dropzone by yourself while thay are off doing something else? How about if you do 2 ways with members of the opposite sex? What is you Significant Other's take on kiss passes? Do they get PO'd if you kiss pass someone other than them? How about 'fun' exits like a 'safe sex' exit (guy gets into an outside float position, girl sits on guy's lap facing guy, girl grabs guy's shoulder straps, guy lets go and grabs girl's shoulder straps, girl and guy tumble head over heels out of the plane). Does your S/O get peeved if you do this type jump with someone other than them? Is all this just part of skydiving fun or should some of this be reserved for your one and only? 7. Skydive Dallas (my home DZ) and Skydive Texas are both about 45 minutes - 1 hour from the north Dallas area. Cant help ya on Florida
  8. I usually get a regular main in about 5 - 6 minutes. I HAVE done 2 tandems once in 15 minutes! JC
  9. When I get a new canopy I usually just toss it into the washing maching for a couple of cycles to knock the "new" off of it. Works every time! (IM KIDDING!!! I just KNOW somebody's not gonna read this far and actually TRY this...) CJ
  10. Good job savin ur own butt! Having had 2 of my own, I know it CAN be a rush, huh!? Extra good job gettin RIGHT back in the plane! CJ
  11. Actually if youre playing "book smart" BJ, the odds on BJ is the lowest of any of the casino games, cutting the house odds down to like 1/2%. If youre card counting (which you CAN do on a multi-deck shoe) you can actually shift the odds slightly in your favor. Roulette, I hear, has the worst odds in the house, unless you stick with even odds bets (like black or red). Slots are the absolute worst! CJ
  12. Ive never been able to understand all that craps stuff...too much goin on all at once. I did sit down at a blackjack table once with $200 and walked away a couple hours later with $1000. THAT was fun! CJ

    pie

It really depends on the DZ. At my DZ they dont seem to pie you for anything under 1000 (unless youre on the "A" list, then you might get special treatment...) My thoughts are that 100 deserves a pie. I was pied at 100. I made sure my girlfriend was pied for her 100 (right in the middle of her SCR ceremony). If youve made it to 100, youre going to be in the sport for a while. After that I think 500 is a good milestone, then 1000, then every 1000 after that. Just my thoughts. CJ PS - WHAAAPPPP! PIE!!
  14. What an ASSHOLE. Kinda makes ya wanna trip on down to SD Houston and whip someones ASS. Oh wait, i forgot, he's the baddest guy on the planet or something. Im sorry Mr Richard-head, dont hurt me! Didnt he say at some point during some rant he was doing that eh had like 200 jumps? And HE'S criticizing people for using technology and gadgets to stay safer?? Hell, he's barely got any room to talk at ALL. Geez, whata weiner. CJ
  15. My family opted out of the gift giving portion of the holidays this year. Instead we're just going to try enjoying each other's company for a change. Should be interesting to see how it works out. JC

    Gun Control

Dave - The judo joke was friggin hilarious! Others - Thats what I love about the gun control argument. Both sides demand they are right. Neither side wants to concede a point. Both sides come up with statistics and moral arguments and what ifs to make their point. Kinda like the abortion debate (NO, lets NOT start..) Someone made the point that owning a gun might be a good idea for self defense but why do you have to own a machine gun...etc. Wanna know why? Cuz its COOL! I have a gun for self defense. I only need one gun for self defense. Cant really carry a buncha guns with you (less youre Clint Eastwood in a spaghetti western). However, I own a BUNCH of guns. Yes Ive also owned a fully automatic weapon and a short barrelled shotgun (both require ATF approval). Hell I own guns Ive never even fired. Know why? Because I like guns. Some people collect stamps. I collect guns and knives. I have a couple of really nice swords that I bet I could chop a buncha people up with before someone (with a gun probably) stopped me if I was so inclined. And I'd never run out of ammo. If I was a deranged Columbine type killer, I'd probably think it was WAY cooler to go after some people with a sword than a gun. And yes, I have a gun safe. But not for my sword.... Bwaaaa hahahahh (

    Gun Control

___________________________________________________ Like Remi, I disagree with the whole "If someone broke into my house..." mentality. The facts are that it is damned unlikely in the first place. Second, chances are that someone will get themselves killed trying to defend themselves when they might have had a better survival rate unarmed. Third, the guns in a home are mostly likely to be used in a manner that kills the homeowner or someone in their family. The facts support that. So if you are looking at the odds (we all do, we're skydivers), you and your family would be substantially better off unarmed. The most likely weapon to kill you in your home is your own. If you don't have one, you remove that possibility. ___________________________________________________ Statistically not very many skydivers ever use their reserves. Im still wearing one however. As a cop I'm really trying to stay far far away from this argument. I have guns, I use / carry guns daily, I will continue to have / own / use guns as long as I live. Ive been around guns my entire life (second generation cop). People are very inventive in the ways we kill each other. Yes guns make it easier, but if theyre not available people WILL find another way to harm each other. CJ
  21. I'll be there at some point over the weekend. I mainly do RW but Im learning to sit also, but I'd be happy to jump with you. Sis knows me, so she can point me out. Blues CJ
  22. Well, lets see... Im a cop and a Sniper on our SWAT team,,,hence "Sniper" And CJ is my nickname on the team,,,hence,,,errrr,,,"CJ" Lets out it all together and what does it spell?? "SniperCJ" Blues CJ PS - Yes, im really a sniper No, ive never shot anyone Yes, i could hit you if you were standing 1000 yds away
  23. If they have a license they at least have been taught to pack but choose not to do it. Hell, Im a packer (part time), but we have so many packers at my DZ that ive pretty much been out of work for 3 months. Send some of those rich a$$ goombas over here. Ill pack for em and take their hard earned money! Its those rat bastards that buy brand SPANKIN new $5000 gear right off student status, make 15 jumps a day, make me pack for em, THEN make me carry their gear to their Mercedes' that *I* hate!! (that was a JOKE!! Get it? A JOKE!! sorta...) Blues! CJ
  24. This is the biggest reason I wish I had discovered skydiving when i was 20 instead of when i was 35. I think in the earlier days of jumping it was all about jumping and helping to pass along the knowledge. Now it seems everyone want to try to make a living at it. Nice if you can make it work but not everyone can. I started packing last year and my entire goal was to pay for some of my jumps, not to get rich or monopolize the market. There are guys who expect to get paid for every little piece of advice they dispense. Sad that they cant just pass along the lessons they were given when they were learning. Kick him in the nuts. Blues CJ
  25. Diver,,Dont ever, EVER do that again! Jumps are $19 each. Thats all the money related math you need to do. When you add it all up, you just get depressed. Then, cuz youre depressed you have to go jump to get un-depressed. Then you think about MORE money you spent skydiving, and depressed again, have to jump again,,,ad nauseum. See the cycle??!! Just tell yourself,,jumps are less than $20! Thats CHEAP! Whoo hoooo! Go JUMP!
