  1. A new priest at his first mass was so nervous he could hardly speak. After mass he asked the monsignor how he had done. The monsignor replied, “When I am worried about getting nervous on the pulpit, I put a glass of vodka next to the water glass. If I start to get nervous, I take a sip.” So next Sunday he took the monsignors advice. At the beginning of the sermon, he got nervous and took a drink. He proceeded to talk up a storm. Upon his return to his office after mass, he found the following note on the door: Sip the Vodka, don't gulp. There are 10 commandments, not 12. There are 12 disciples, not 10. Jesus was consecrated, not constipated. Jacob wagered his donkey, he did not bet his ass. We do not refer to Jesus Christ as the late J.C. The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not referred to as Daddy, Junior and the Spook. David slew Goliath, he did not kick the shit out of him. When David was hit by a rock and knocked off his donkey, don't say he was stoned off his ass. We do not refer to the cross as the "Big T" When Jesus broke the bread at the Last Supper he said, "Take this and eat it for it is my body." He did not say "Eat me." The Virgin Mary is not called "Mary with the Cherry." The recommended grace before a meal is not: Rub-A- Dub-Dub thanks for the grub, YEAAAHHH GOD! Next Sunday there will be a taffy pulling contest at St. Peter's, not a peter pulling contest at St. Taffy's.
  2. Same thing, right? lol
  3. Bahahaha "Kindly ask..." I was right lol IFL Canadians
  4. God damn right. Not to be impolite, but aren't Canadians famously polite? I'd like to see what you'd consider a strongly worded, impolite response and compare it to what I'm picturing my response would be if someone charged me with the same.
  5. My 5 year old son almost got smoked by a swooper coming through the spectator area about 6 weeks back. I hear that, Bill.
  6. The Flight-1 courses teach the two-stage flare as described above with the first stage being the "sweet spot" where you plane out and your body is directly underneath the leading edge, thus arresting your vertical descent, then a distinct movement where you rotate your hands and finish the flare straight down as far as you can push, keeping your arms in line with your torso. I'm not here to debate what's "right" or "wrong" because I lack the experience to say one or the other. Just pointing out that that's what they are teaching. I just took the 101 and 102 courses two weeks ago.
  7. It seems to me that everyone who has been in this sport for a certain period of time has known someone who has gone in or otherwise been injured, whether critically or minor. When the old guard tells us young pups that we done messed up, it's definitely worth listening to and taking under serious consideration. At the end of the day, however, we're all licensed skydivers and can make our own decisions. The main thing to remember is that we're all one community. When one of us does something stupid and gets hurt, it affects everyone. Nobody wants to see one of our own go in or get hurt, and a secondary consequence is that if we fail to regulate ourselves, the FAA will do it for us. Nobody wants that. So, I guess what I'm saying is that I agree with the guys who are giving you pointers. They're doing it for the right reasons. I reacted a similar way a couple weeks ago to someone who delivered the same kind of advice, although in a much less political way. After I thought about it for a while, I realized he had the best intentions at heart and I should have just taken it in stride and made the best decisions I could make after considering all available information. You don't have to try to defend anything. And these guys aren't giving you the "bowling" talk. They're just making sure to pass some knowledge on to you from their experience so that maybe you have to see one less friend get hurt or killed in the future. Just think on it, and maybe just let them have the last word(s).
  8. So, I did pull her in for a little *boop* with our helmets if you watch closely. Ultimately, we both just don't like open face helmets and neither of us have one.
  9. Thanks, I'll put that in my toolbox!
  10. I appreciate the pointer! Does it make a difference that I watched her opening prior to initiating my track? Not trying to be snarky; I'm trying to learn.
  11. I am not going to give advice on what to do with your body, but I would politely ask someone who is experienced and has a camera to get your exits on video so you can see what it is that you're actually doing. What I noticed for myself was that rarely does what I think I'm doing with my body position match up with what I'm actually doing with my body position. Then, you can have a discussion with a knowledgeable person at your DZ and you have the video tool to assist you in recognizing the changes you need to make with respect to your body position. It was extremely helpful for me to do this with hop n pop exits as well as tracking exits.
  12. I was working with an organizer on that exact thing on the three jumps that followed this one yesterday. You're absolutely right!
  13. Super proud of my wife for stapling up her A license this past weekend. We finally got to jump together, after over a year. Just wanted to share our simple little jump on here because I'm so damn happy about it! It's nothing amazing; I wanted to keep it simple and memorable in a good way, so it's just some leg turns with high grips and staring at each other all the way down. 14. Also, I’m B-licensed now. So suck it (sarcasm) In my previous life I was a nuclear power plant operator in the Navy. The most important thing I learned during that time is that no matter how much you think you know, you don’t know shit. But that applies up and down the chain; I had to correct my O-6 Captain (as an E-5) on a misconception he had held for 20 years. He looked up the correct answer, and conceded that he was wrong. The lesson I learned was to always listen intently to what someone says to you, regardless of their experience. Question it, analyze it, and if they’re incorrect, don’t be intimidated into being a “yes man” for fear of getting in trouble. Integrity is paramount. Know what you know and be honest about what you don’t. I also majored in psych. I know Dunning-Kruger. And I am riddled with doubt, no matter what my expertise is on any given subject. I hope I do get to jump with you someday, honestly. And I promise to have a wide open mind to whatever pointers and pearls of knowledge I can glean from you. And I’ll get you shitfaced.
  15. Fair enough. By that time, I might just be able to give you a bit of a challenge. At 6’4, I’ve got a wicked fast tracking speed. Drinks on me.
  16. I think if I had time, I'd loosen my chest strap, unzip my RW suit, pull it wide open to try to catch as much air as possible and aim for the trees or the mud. Life is preferable to death, and if I have the remote chance of surviving and partial recovery, I'm going for it. My wife knows the directive if I'm on life support. I figure I could slow down to maybe 100-110.
  17. I've had very limited experience (Nav, Safire 2, and Volt) but I absolutely love my Volt. It's got a hella-powerful flare to it, and it's very forgiving while getting flare timing down. But take it with a grain of salt; I'm a newbie myself and don't have much to compare it to.
  18. Just poking around to see what the excuses are for the pResident betraying our country yet again in front of the cameras in his recent bilat with daddy Putin. There is no argument against the fact...FACT...that Putin personally directed cyber attacks and the massive intentional spreading of disinformation with the express intent of wreaking havoc on our electoral process - even going so far as to hack into voting software (although the claim is still that no votes were directly changed...we'll have to table that discussion for later). And the pResident is laughing about it and back-slapping with a hostile foreign entity and autocrat in front of the whole world.
  19. I appreciate your thoughtful response. The knee-jerk reactions for both of us were improper, and so I apologize for my reaction. I recognize that you are a very experienced skydiver, and I can tell from a glance at your profile that you know a lot about the sport; I knew that before I responded to you the first time. I'm not immune to good advice. As I stated before: I don't take a shit at my DZ without asking permission. You know from your experience in the sport that everyone has an opinion on what you should be doing, and sometimes those opinions don't match up or are polar opposite, and as a beginner I'm left trying to figure out which D-Licensed, AFFI-with-decades-of-experience to listen to. As someone on the outside, I can see how you were trying to do your best to scare some sense into a young punk in the game; I'm just not as young as I look and I haven't been talked to like that for a long time. Again, I shouldn't have reacted as harshly as I did. Maybe we'll cross paths and clink beers someday after a long day at the DZ.
  20. Wait: who says the Satanic Temple has a bad reputation?
  21. Hindsight is 20/20, but I did get a couple good links and some good points to think on.
  22. Thank you for the clarification
