Getting into higher performance landings....
popeyefireman replied to ManFallDown's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
To start with I am not a swooper. I wanted to down size a little while ago. I went from a 190 triathlon to a 159 safire2. my exit wieght at the time was 245. Now I new that that WL was unacceptable to my experiance level. But I also knew that the size and WL are not the only thing that changes canopy preformance. So in order for me to get this new canopy I droped 30lb, that way my WL in the same. But I did notice a huge change just by canopy design. So maybe you could try something similar to that, but talk to a coach as I did when i did all this. Adam "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living. -
Windy in the winter is better the windy in the summer here. I the winter months it can get cold and at alt real cold so be ready for warm and cold weather. There are a lot of great coachs the work at the DZ and some good ones that just jump there. I would give the trianing center a call if I were you and try to set of some dates. If your going to come to make a lot of jumps you might get more out of your money if you hire a coach. The new tunnel will be up and running soon and that can be a great learning tool. By your profile you are a freeflier in trianing. I would talk to TJ or Amy (as soon as she is all healed up) and find dates that are avial. for them to work with you, if you go the coach route. And if you make it for the holiday boogie...well see ya there. Adam "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living.

I psycho pack my safire and love the opening. I pro pack my triathlon and the openings are great for that. I know quite a few guys that psycho pack and jump with them fairly regular, never seen a problem with any of their openings. I am not to sure of the history of psycho packing or it effects on HP canopies. "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living.

It does look snug on you, now I am no rigger so keep that in mind. I know that when they are big, the harness can be altered, but as far as I know when they are too small, there may be no more material in the harness system to make it bigger. Now some container companys offer the service of puting a new harness on a old container, so you could check with your rigs manuf. As for trusting your rigger, in my oppinion that is really important, but tahts all I can really say because I don't know what kind of profit riggers make on selling new rigs or their services, that part is best left for a rigger. It looks like you leg staps fon't have much room in them. Ask your instructor, they would give you a better insite Adam "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living.

So I get back from my firsy jump today and I go to put my helmet in my bbag and there is a peice of paper in there. So I take a look and it is a pict of a piece of pie with a circle and line through it and the word no pie. Then under the paper I find a video, it is the fly like a pro video. Now I just got a new canopy, my wing loading didn't change only the design. So I pulled it out of my bag and left it in plain view with the hope that whose ever it is just put it in the wrong bag, but there where no takers. So then I start wondering was it put in the wrong back, or put in the right one as a little joke. So I took it home with me. Now just in case it was in the wrong bag and someone from skydive AZ see's this, please let me know so I can return it. But what do you all think: whas is a mistake or a joke/hint. I don't know about the hint becaue I would consider myself a conservitive learning canopy pilot. Adam "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living.

Okay I did a search and couldnt see anything, so maybe it deep in some thread somewhere, but here it goes. How long does ZP stay slippery? Now I know there is different ZP out there so for some help it is a Safire2 from Icarus. But if you have any idea on any canopy that would be great. Does anyone know where this guy jumps, if so then just let the DZO know. That may put a stop to him jumping it, at least at the dropzone. "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living.

The holse thng is for kid really. Water, even when is is moving in small waves ( like at a pool) still has is surface tention because it is all moving together. When you hit, you are breaking the tention. So when the water hits it first the water breakes the tention and leave you with the residuals. You may try widening you dive arch, or when you leave the board leave so you will pass the tip 2-3 ft away and you make yourself kinda fold in half at the waist at the top of you rebound. It is hard to explain and I am sorry I cant get it in words. If you are finding that you feet travel over your head and thats why you end up on you back, then it could be a over compinsating thing. Hope that helps some. And as for the camera, just find some cute lifeguard, flur and say how preety she is. If she doesn't throw you out of the pool, then you have a shot of her watching the camera for you. "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living.

do you thnk my rash is spreading? And she said it was only a pimple. "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living. -
Well a couple of question first. What is "slaping" the water, is it your legs or back or shoulders? Second, do you have and dive coaching? Fixing your body position is going to be your easiest solution. Try putting a camcorder on a tripod and do half a dozen dives or so. As with skydiving, video can help. And another easy way out would be to break the waters surface tention before entering, as they do with little kids that can get afriad of this feeling. Usualy a garden hose with a sprinkler head does the trick. But from one diver to another, just fix what makes it hurt. Oh ya, and streamline as much as possible. You know biceps squeezing your ears and make a piont. Hope it help some, I don't see a lot of water related question on here so i had to answer. I am in a simular boat as yours. I start yet another fire academy in a month and if I am hurt in the academy I can be released from employment. But you might want to check on what happends if you get hurt out of the academy. I know you said they would fire you, but that seems odd as you could get hurt on the job. Employers that invest a lot of time in you and money in your trianing are not eager to get rid of you. And police men have a very active Union just as firemen do and if you join they can go to bat for you. I did some checking in my situattion and as long asd I make it through the academy with out getting hurt, I will be fine. If I am to get hurt from skydiving or any other thing then all I have to worry about is completing my probationary requirments. I do plan on jumping during and well after my academy, part of the reason is that some of my new co-workers will be jumping with me. Hope that helped some. You have to want to do it. When I started I was working a $20,000 a year job and a newly wed. I went and got a second part time job just for jumping money. Now I make good money as a firefighter/paramedic (the paramedic part is what getts me the money) any now all I have to pay is my wife the extra attention for allowing me to be away more. Great joke, I have another A fireman is getting married for the first time. He tells his ne wife he wants to run his house just like a fire station. She seems confused and asked "what do you mean" "well I mean we are going to use the bell system" One bell mean I am horny Two bells Means I want it now And three bells means get to the bed because I am coming in right after you. So they are in the limo and he yells out " ONE BELL" so she get excited they get to the hotel room and he yells"TWO BELLS" so she goes to slip something sexyon He sees her and yells "THREE BELLS!!!!!" So they're getting into it and are going at it like rabbits when she startes yelling FOUR BELLS, FOUR BELLS.... He stops and ask "whats four bells mean" "Your no where near the fire, get more hose" "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living.

hay i found it. it is FAR105.43 states disciplinary action can be taken against the pilot and by A DZ allowing a jumper to jump a out of date rig, they are putting their pilots license at jeopardy. "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living.

I would think that they are in violation with FAA rules and regs and if I remember right it is the pilot that gets the penalties ( I can't find it in SIMS right now) "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living.

depends, jumping in the heat isn't too bad. Its all the packing after the jump that starts to wear you down. If I use a packer I will jump all summer at Eloy just fine (highs in the 115). If I have to pack my own 105 sounds like a trip to the bent prop fpr me. But then agian I am a firefighter so the heat is a part of my job. Try fighting a house fire in 115 degree heat, then packing sounds fun. "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living.

this is what I know because this is what my rigger told me when I was asking about reserves a while back. I know my experiance is low, but please don't confuse that with inmaturity. Because my experiance is low I seek information from people with more experiance, if you ask me that is mature, rather then just finding out the hard way. If my rigger doesn't think much of Tempos and he calls them "crap" for many reasons all of which have been listed in other forums, then I will take his word on the subject. I am not saying that you (riggermick) does not know what he is talking about. With the experience you have listed I am sure that any information you give would be well accredited. I the future I will make sure to put information obtianed my other persons in quotations. Thanks for everyone input "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living.
