  1. Hey! Glad the pic made it to you! ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  2. "where a bunch of guys hitched an old ram-air canopy up to a van..." Saw something similar when the British CRW guys came to Eloy for the World Meet in 1998! They shared a video of their escapade. It was hilarious because you knew it came out ok. But it sure scared the shit out of the other team members (who were also drunk at the time) when they thought they'd killed the guy! Wish I'd made a copy of that one! If anyone over there knows the team I'm referring to, let me know and see if you could make a Quicktime movie of the episode! ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  3. "...and aren't true friends great!!!" Yeah, they are! And skydiving families are truer and tighter than most 'real' families I've seen. Glad your on the road to recovery, Dove. Give your physical therapist hell !! :^) ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  4. Ok...since nobody's mentioned it, I've known people to travel via Greyhound bus to Perris. If you fly into LAX the DZ will send someone to pick you up from the Perris location. Unfortunately, I don't think Greyhound has a station at Ontario. :^( The Perris Greyhound phone number is (909) 657-7813. LA's phone number is: (213) 629-8401. Check out http://www.greyhound.com/ . __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  5. Prost, My heartfelt sympathies to John, you, and every friend who experienced the loss of a loved one last year. You are right, I did not see the video as you experienced. My source, other than word of mouth, has been the fatalites pages that lists 3 camerflyer fatalities from helmet vs line wrap (Lousburg, NC, Lodi, CA, and Emerald Coast Elberta, AL) and 1 more (DeLand, FL) from a straight-in approach on a 2.0 wing loaded eliptical. If my information on your friend was inaccurate, and he was -not- one of the line snag fatalities, my appologies. Could you please contact the fatality pages creator, Barry Brumitt at barry@microsoft.com and help correct this error? Peace and Blues Skies, ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  6. What rgoper and quade wrote says alot. I've flown camera, both tandem, AFF, VrW, and mainly 4-way, and have seen some scarey stuff in other's lenses and up close. Be ready to jet that camera if needed. Your life is more important than any amount of $$. 3 camera flyers went in last year when their lines tangled with their equipment. Let me relate a good friend's experience. He has 10,000 jumps and has been a National champion several years. When he experienced, last year, a spinning mal he cutaway, praying that his risers would clear his helmet. They did, but then his RESERVE started to spin!! He then jetted his helmet and the spin righted itself! Amazed, he looked over at the offending line and found the eye piece of one of the cameras wrapped securely by one of the lines. He gasped and grabbed the camera helmet and saved all the equipment. But shuttered of what would have happened if he hadn't released the helmet. This is not to scare anyone, but his action saved his life, while the other 3 last year didn't take that action soon enough. If you get involved in camera work, please talk with experienced cameraflyers at your DZ and really look at your set-up. Limit snag possiblities and be heads-up on -every- jump. ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  7. Very aware of the true definition. That's what makes her reply all the more funny! Exactly what I thought when I read it. Nice little interlude from the 'serious' technical stuff. blues, ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  8. Subject: Warning! SEND THIS WARNING TO EVERYONE ON YOUR EMAIL LIST. IF A MAN COMES TO YOUR FRONT DOOR AND SAYS HE IS CONDUCTING A SURVEY AND ASKS YOU TO SHOW HIM YOUR BOOBS, DO NOT SHOW HIM YOUR BOOBS. THIS IS A SCAM, HE ONLY WANTS TO SEE YOUR BOOBS. I wish I'd gotten this yesterday. I feel so stupid. Attraction

First tandem jump was done because hot air balloon rides were -too- expensive! I wanted to get up in the air anyway and remembered a rep from a medical supply business telling me he did tandems on the side for fun and a bit of income! So...I called to schedule one of my own over beautiful Palm Springs. First jump was the day my divorce was final. Wanted to do something for -myself- for a change! Now foot loose and fancy free I'm spending more money than that balloon ride would -ever- have cost me ;^0 ! I was hooked (in more ways than one)!! ah...memories... ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver

  12. LMAO!!! Yep, confirmation indeed! As one friend in particular will attest, I am completely insane! What's even funnier was my dog, Shimano's, reaction. She ran over, head tilted and staring at the speaker, and started whining. Made me laugh even more! Does this prove that I enjoy other's insanity to an even greater degree? ;^0 Disappearing, grinning like a cheshier cat that's just been caught, ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  13. Lisa! First, a HUGE congrats on David's first dive! You looked like you were going to bust your buttons when I saw you afterwards at the DZ. Great pics, too. He looks heads up. As an instructor myself, it's really fun when a student can be this aware the very first time out. Still want to see that video! Next week? Grins, ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  14. Most fun solo exit ever.... Get in the Otter when it's just a bunch of 1st time tandems on the load (so you're first out and able to chat with them upclose and personal). Hee Hee Hee... Then while on jump run, with the door open, engage the closest one in conversation.... Keep an eye on the spot and when right on target pretend to lose your balance and fall out the door screaming! Done that! LOVE to see the tandem's eyes get saucer big as they see you 'lose your balance' and fall out! Works every time! :^0 ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver

    Skydiving songs

Egads....3:20 AM and can't sleep! Browsing the NG to kill time until the planes get going later today. Let's see....a piece that hasn't been posted already....Hmmmm.... How 'bout "The Best Things" by Filter. Talks about "Got a green light" and "The best things in life are for free"! How appropriate. Kind of reminds me of the air we feel every weekend. T-5 and counting :^) ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  16. Yeah....what Markbaur said. Good points. Stress reduction is a HUGE key! Here are some of what I did that might help... 1) I had the privilege of training with the course director before attending his course (thanks Rick!)....this took -some- of the pressure off. Knowledge IS power. There was pleanty of stress to go around, though! If you can't do that, at least do practice jumps with an Evaluator and get his feedback. 2) Bring donuts and coffee for everyone during the first 2 days of ground training lectures! Makes everyone happy! :^) (and earns you some support points with the gang to use during the stressed out times later)! 3) Bring beer for everyone for the end of the day. This earns you BIG points and lets everyone chill at the end of the day and share. I have friends still today from the course (and I flew from CA to IN for this). 4) Back massages go a long way too :^) 5) I brought music tapes and a Walkman to mind meld into my thoughts and concentrate during the times of stress. Some songs to soothe....some songs to pump me up for the beginning of the day and right before starting the 'student' gear check. Amazing what this did in controlling my level of arousal (referring to the book's definition, not after jump fun :^) I had actually copied ALL of the DZ's tandem/aff music selections from the school for this! All the songs were 'skydiving' songs and created great visualization. 6) To relax at the -very- end of the day I was able to talk on the phone with my boyfriend (who was also a skydiver) and release all the day's emotion and stress. I think they call this venting :^) Sleep followed soon after. Getting a good nights rest is so essential ! Hope this helps. Boy, does this bring back memories! ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  17. Just caught the tail end of a news report on NBC. Seems that a BASE jumper landed -on- a police cruiser today? Where....How...(ah shucks...even Who?, since he's been caught it doesn't need protecting, right)? :^) Hope it isn't who I think it is! ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  18. Thanks lewmonst! I get out to Eloy a couple times a year am really jazzed that you posted this coupon! They don't give skydiver discounts unless the DZ makes special arrangements ahead of time. And that -usually- is for World Meets only they do this. :^) ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  19. Great day at our 'home' today! Fantastic to see your smile and enthusiasm after that dive!! What a life we have together. Glad to have you back, Lisa. :^) Congrats and welcome back. ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  20. Check out http://www.ParachuteHistory.com . Great info there on not only parachuting history, but also other interesting events and happenings in our 'world'. It's updated frequently, so check it often! ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  21. My family (from all over the U.S.) converged here at my place for Christmas. Best gift anyone could ask for. sigh, ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  22. Thanks Cameramonkey for the advice. Unfortunately, my current PC is -WAY- outdated (for starters, only a 2.1 GB HD and 150 mhz microprocessor). Not enough to support any video card I've found :-( So....I understand exactly where you're coming from, but I need a brand new computer to get started anyway. Still investigating, but with everybody's input here I'm leaning toward the Mac. That is if we don't lose the product due to where it is being manufactured (over there in our new war territory of Islam country). ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  23. Yeah...got bit by ~that~ bug as well. As usual just time and money in the way to get it done this year. Maybe next year? Went up in a Cessna-150 with a relative and he let me take over the controls (above 5,000') and boy did I have fun with experiencing powered flight in my hands for the first time (BEER!!!!). Looking for my -next- 'powered flight' now. :^) ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  24. Jim, Got your PM just fine. Sometimes this NG sends you to download something instead (never quite got that hiccup reason) but the PM is sent just fine. My friend is Bunge Hankins. Good guy with a big heart. Started doing video this year just for fun. Lori __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
  25. Strynx, Is the article you mentioned here?: http://www.zct.co.uk/skydivemag/pages/people/adriannichols.htm If so, article seems to have been published in the October 1998 issue of Skydive Magazine. I'd love to find the book also when it finally hits the skydiver's shelf. ltdiver __________________________________________ http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
