  1. I cant find a Hornet 150 to save my life
  2. I currently jump a Merit 170 and was looking to jump a Sabre2 150. Anyone famailiar with the Merit knows its an elliptical hybrid. The Merit 170 has pretty quick turns and very short toggle input to get those turns started. I currently jump a Javelin J-2 that can fit the Merit due to it being a hybrid. The only thing about the Merit is the nut crunching openings. I have heard and was told that downsizing to a Sabre2 150 i would have almost identical flight performance as if i was still flying the Merit but i would lose the hard opening but get same performance. Can anyone validate this? Any comments would be helpful
  3. I love flying the Merit with the exception of the openings unless you really role the nose. It is a fast canopy but not to fast and the toggle input is short. As far as flying the Merit, it is alot of fun because you can have some fun with it. I had one instuctor with 8000+ jumps say i should be able to handle a Sabre2 135 but it would require a two stage flare. Landing the Marit has always been a piece of cake. The say comparing the Merit 170 to say a Sabre/Spectre 170 is a huge difference so thats why i was considering the Sabre2 150 because i think it will be similiar the the Merit. What exactly is a hybrid. What is elliptical as oposed to square. Review says Merit is an elliptical. Thanks for the input so far.
  4. I have been jumping an old Vector with a Merit 170. Recently it was determined that my Vector is out of commission and i inherited a Javelin J-2. I currently have 60 jumps and would like to stay with my Merit 170. Does anyone know if my Merit will fit in the J-2. I know the J-2 called for a 150 but i'm always hearing about 170's fitting the J-2. Was looking at maybe going to a Sabre2 150 as i was told by more experienced jumpers and instuctors to not go under a 150. I prefer a 9 cell as oposed to a 7 cell because i hear the 7 cells are harder to land. I'm a straight in lander with good landings consistently. Looking for a 150 with the zip of my Merit as far as turns and glide but also the firgivenes. I'm 190 lbs out the door so a 150 puts my wingload at 1.26. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
  5. I cant say much for a conquest because i never flew one. I'm like you, i'm still new to the skydiving world. I recently purchased a Sabre2 135 with 50 jumps for $1000 but ended up never flying it due to safety reasons. I checked around talking to instuctors and coaches. I ended up selling the Sabre2 135 for $950 because i was going to be loaded at a wingload of 1.40 at 60 jumps under my belt. I currently fly a Merit 170 and will be getting a Sabre2 150 which gives me a wingload of 1.26. That is more managable for me and thats what was recommended by the more experienced jumpers, instuctors and coaches. Just because you grew up around a DZ doesnt make you a better pilot. Under canopy you are on your own, daddy aint there to help you but maybe to load you in an ambulance when you have 2 broken legs. Take your time and learn. Your life isnt worth being cool with a HP wing at your skill level. Just a thought because you dont have many more jumps than i do. Stick to a 150 sq ft.
