  1. Completely reasonable. Is it also reasonable that those who have chosen not to carry or own a weapon should prevent those who think it's prudent from owning or carrying a weapon? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  2. Oh! Oh! Mr. Kotter! I did! I did! No, wait. I didn't. Neither did anyone else. Those killed in violent crime were simply too stupid to recognize it and avoid it. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  3. What? Where did that come from? If they gave away 2000 free condoms it means simply that they gave away 2000 free condoms. For all you know they were used to make balloon animals. I propose that the majority of those who took and used the free condoms would have likely used condoms that they payed for in the first place. Whether or not I'm not right, your statement is without proof. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  4. I don't understand how a needle and thread would be useful to me, I mean I suppose I could make an emergency repair on a torn shirt. Compass - there's one in my car, a few blankets and a sleeping bag, too. I can't imagine ever being in a situation where I need to catch a fish immediately or even, luckily, need an emergency water supply (though to be honest, there's usually a gallon in my car all the time for one reason or another). Of all the things I mentioned above, none is as useful a tool in defense of violent crime as a readily available weapon. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  5. Why is being prepared equal, in your opinion, to being paranoid? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  6. I think that point that people either aren't getting or don't want to admit is that while it's prudent to avoid risky situations where you might be attacked or preyed upon, that sometimes those situations find us. Hell, nobody wants to admit that they're not safe in their daily routine. For example, I seem to recall a situation in a club in Columbus, Ohio not too long ago where a few people lost their lives. Do you think that they went into this club thinking that they might be shot? Better yet, the people injured and killed in the incident that started this thread, who wouldn't feel safe on the steps of the court house? Some people, those usually referred to as the gun-nuts, just think it's better to be prepared when the shit hits the fan. Why would anyone want to deprive them of that? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

  9. I've printed and saved it as an Acrobat document, but it's too large to post here. PM me with an email address or a place to host it if Ebay takes it down again. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  10. This is complete and utter bullshit on a number of levels. Yeah, I laughed at that, too. But it's not what the article is about - I'm surprised it's in there at all, it's nothing but fluff, and quite a bit of it, too, IIRC. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. 11. Given that we've reached the point where we're now removing ALL the extra drag we can (think: pilot chutes, extra thin lines, sliders, 7 cells vs. 9, etc . . . ), I think that body shape could and likely does make a bit of difference. Does it make a difference to you or me or the casual weekend swooper running the beer line? Probably not. Does it make a difference to the Heath's and Jay's of the world? It might. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  12. Probably the same idiots that watched the Super Bowl and then complained about seeing Janet's boobie - Oh wait, that's not quite the same, is it? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  13. Same difference? What part of AIDS don't you get? The flu is a minor inconvenience for most and a killer for some. AIDS is killer for everyone; true, these day's life expectancy is a bit higher, but the drugs necessary to live a longer life come with a big price - quality of life. The way I read it it suggests that those with AIDS or who are HIV+ should be wearing condoms. Do you really have to ask? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  14. I agree with everything you've said, what I take issue with in this particular article is the reference to the laws classified as Secret Sensitive Information. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  15. It was a knee jerk reaction to a problem that we weren't (aren't?) prepared to deal with. It's my hope that we'll examine what works and what doesn't and start a serious reform the TSA. This surprised me more than anything, maybe it shouldn't have. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  16. Grounded: Millionaire John Gilmore stays close to home while making a point about privacy He's unable to travel because he refuses to present a government-approved ID http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05058/462446.stm It's long, but I think interesting and worth a read and the ensuing discussion. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. 17. That's likely the case when we count third world countries. However, I was addressing the spread of AIDS in western culture as I thought that that was what this particular thread was about. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  18. But, but, but . . . What's the fun in that? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  19. Because it was you who challenged my statement. Because it was a story about a Western population that started this thread. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  20. Does that make him an assault shooter? We should ban him! - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  21. I said that AIDS was more prevalent in the gay community than in the straight community. I also followed that with "at least I think so". For clarity, I was speaking of Western populations. Prove me wrong. As far as stereotypes go, someone didn't just wake up one morning and decide that the gay community had an alarming number of AIDS cases. It really happened. Whether or not it's reasonable to perpetuate the story, or whether or not it's still true is another matter entirely. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  22. For what it's worth this search http://www.google.com/search?&q=site%3Awww.icarusnz.com%20crossfire&sourceid=firefox yields the following results: I can't find any reference to the Crossfire 3 on the website as it exists today (though it's possible I just didn't look hard enough), but it must have been there at some point. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. 23. Stereotypes exist for a reason. I would disagree with that. AIDS is more prevalent in the gay community than it is in the heterosexual community - at least I'm pretty sure it is. That alone would make having unprotected gay sex more dangerous than having unprotected hetero sex. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  24. OK - Let's run with that. Are you telling me that because the state doesn't recognize gay marriage that gays are somehow driven to have unprotected sex when they know that they are HIV+? If the state did recognize gay marriage, do you suppose this would all go away? For the record, I don't see this as a gay issue, but rather one of selfishness and irresponsibility. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  25. Sorry to dash your hopes, but that was the edit. I'd love to continue on with this, why don't you start your own thread? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
