Wind tunnel--Las Vegas or Orlando
allicat replied to k2everest's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm driving down to Orlando June 2nd with some other people from my DZ and am buying 30 minutes of tunnel time. Wish I could afford and hour but I think 30 minutes will definitely be worthwhile. Can't wait! -
Allicat. I work for a research institute and I work in Excel all day making budgets for research proposals, mostly to the federal government. Booooring.

Funny, I was right there with ya Saturday morning. First load of the day – my first cutaway. Had about 2 feet of line twists which, try as I may, I could not get out of. I tried until 1800 feet and then cutaway. Lost both my handles though but should have some in by this weekend. I always thought I’d have the presence of mind to hold on to them but when it happened, I didn’t think about it for a second. -
Yes, I will be sure to. Capped and from Mirage.

Guys, I appreciate all your inputs. Alot of the people I have spoken with about this have told me not to worry about it, but considering the concerns you have all raised (which I think are legitimate), I think I will order some new risers. I'd much rather err on the side of safety. Also, the ends of my cutaway cables in the bottoms of my risers are not housed which concerns me as well. After a near cutaway yesterday which scared the piss out of me, I have decided to make sure my new risers have housings in them.

Interesting. The tandem pair look like twins too.

Aaaagh toys! let's see, my favorites were Lightbright, Barbies, Leggos, Big Wheel, Strawberry Shortcake, Easy Bake Oven, dolls that really peed, Atari (Frogger, Space Invaders, Pole Position, Pac Man), Candyland, Shutes and Ladders, Memory, pogo stick, Cabbage Patch Kids...

My friend and I would steal some latex gloves from her mother who was a nurse, hunt around the yard and collect dog shit in a plastic bag, and go to store parking lots and stuff the dog shit up underneath peoples' car door handles, hide out and whatch as the fun ensued. We were mean but it was HALARIOUS.

I know for a fact that Mirage, Sunpath and Rigging Innovations all make a point of stating that only "factory" parts are to be used on their containers. I will have to find out why these risers were put on. I printed out that Relative Workshop article and will bring it to my rigger this afternoon. I am a little concerned about this... Thanks everyone for your advice.

do a lot of people use them?
-
Wow, thanks. I had no idea but it makes sense. Now I am concerned about the one day I left it in my trunk which was yesterday. It was 80 degrees outside. I haven't jumped it since yesterday - do you think it'll be ok? Now I just need to figure out what to do this summer when I go to the DZ straight from work. I guess I'll have to lug it into my office.
-
LOL. Thanks for the tips. Now I know not to leave it in my trunk (luckily I only did that once).

I just purchased a 2000 Mirage G3 container with a Fury 220 main with reverse risers. Does anyone know why they started/stopped making these? The only thing I have heard is that they are less likely to get snagged (esp. in freeflying) but that they can cause hard cutaways. My rigger says he had reverse risers for a while and never had problems cutting away the two times he did. Do you think riser inserts would help just in case?

I am new to the sport and recently purchased my own gear. I was wondering about storing my gear when I'm not using it. I know it should not be in direct sunlight but what about high heat (like the trunk of my car in the summer)? Any other suggestions or things I shouldn't do with it that I should know about? Thanks for your help.
-
I rather enjoyed them.

Thanks guys. See you this weekend? The weather for tomorrow is looking slightly better. *keeping fingers crossed* Sunday looks great.

buy a remote controlled fart machine from Spencers and you'll be guaranteed hours of fun!

Busted! Didn't know that was you Jason. In any case, thanks very much for your advice. I read your post twice, carefully, and will read it again I'm sure. I totally get what you and the others are saying. I want to know my limits and respect them in all aspects of this sport so I agree with what you wrote. This is actually my promise to myself b/c I am the type of person who tends to want to do things too fast. But it's also good to know that I didn't make a bad decision buying a canopy on the large side, and that flying it for a while may even make me a better canopy pilot in the long run. For now I will be more than content learning the basics.

oh, so sorry skykitten. You must be so upset. Just remember that there are lots of us out there who know how bad this feels. You're in my thoughts.

I was laughing my ASS off! It was just the thing I needed after a long day with 20 relatives all gathered for Easter.

Last night I had a very weird dream about the plane. I wasn't on the load so I was watching from the ground. The plane looked like a space shuttle for some reason. All my friends were on the load. It took off heading straight up just like a space shuttle would and then it suddenly did a 180 and came hurtling to the ground and crashed. It was a horrible dream. When I woke up afterwards I was half awake and half asleep and I remember thinking to myself that I will never fly or skydive again - and I meant it. Of course that's not true, I'm going this afetrnoon, but at the time I felt so strongly about it - you know how dreams are. That was the first bad skydiving dream I've had.

for yesterday... HIGH - My three after-work jumps Low - Ears still clogged due to alergy congestion. I really can't hear.

Yeah, it is much easier underwater and relaxed. I can actually still hold my breath for 1:45 underwater. I attribute this to many years of competitive swimming. Viking, I have done full body shaves many a time. How'd yours go, btw?
