I assume you are talking about the wingsuit incident. The video was posted in the thread on that topic, but here it is again. Direct video link for download here: http://www.consumptionjunction.com/...oadsnew/cj_62176.wmv Andrew

You talk big, about whale sex. But you told me you told me you haven't gotten any in months, which would put you out of the whale sex time frame if my math is good. ie you haven't had sex since she got fat.

BASE to me is: During my first week (not that long ago, this summer) watching two people on my first jump course land in the boulder field and break their hip and foot (respectively). Landing in the trees/bushes and then the water myself, after being shaken up about my new friends. Running to the bridge to hear that a dear friend of mine has died, or at least probably died. And then spending a week with him in the Boise ICU with his family while he goes through intensive back surgery and is on a ventilator for most of that time. Having to miss my own mothers birthday to stay with my friend in the ICU and having to call her and explain why I had to miss her birthday. She was not okay with starting BASE jumping and likely never will be now. Hearing that someone died at that same bridge 2 days after that. And having my Mother ask me if I heard about THAT. and sticking with it, so far... I got a real crash course my first week.

I am at the Hospital with Jason and his family. I was taking Tom's First jump course at the time and Jason and his brother drove down with me to do some jumping. Jason is currently in surgery to fuse and stabilize the worst of his broken vertebrae. He has remained on the ventilator today but is doing phenomenal all things considered. Jason also has numerous rib fractures, a broken scapula, lung contusions, a broken tailbone, and tons of bruising. He has remained lucid and has been communicating quite effectively with sign language and through pen and paper. Jason is still bright as ever; while having detailed conversations in his room about some pretty technical stuff, he has been the one many times to fill in the blanks for us. Jason will be back in ICU much later tonight following surgery and tomorrow we will have a better idea about what's what. We are all positive and optimistic about Jason making a good recovery from this. It will certainly be a long road. Andrew

Is your Wingloading within the WNE Chart?
dbagdrew replied to FrancoR's topic in Safety and Training
I am at ~350 jumps and at a1.3\ So right at the max Sabre 2-135 Planning on jumping it for a few hundred jumps. But I'm sure a lot of people tell themselves that and it doesn't actually happen. If I was unable to use my toggles I would attempt a rear riser landing of course. And in the scenario you described it seems like it would be a good thing to have some experience with actual landings. Maybe not a bad idea after all. It still seems risky to me. Probably because I am not completely comfortable with my canopy yet. Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge. - Mark Twain

I'm not sure I would ever try a rear riser landing. Just my opinion. I don't think that it is necessary. If you are able to use your toggles use them. You are going to get less flare out of your rear risers and therefore have a greater chance of hurting yourself. It's something I have thought about quite a bit and it doesn't seem to make since to me. Does anyone have experience landing on rears more than a handful of times? I have passed up the opportunity for the past 2 years in a row now. But no longer will I miss out and have to hear all the stories when my friends get back. I am planning on going, hell or high water. Sounds like a great time. Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge. - Mark Twain

I hooked up twists in my risers for my first night jump. (switching canopies, last minute, in a rush, etc) The twists tripped me out and I had to shine my flashlight on the canopy a couple times to make sure it was going forward. But it steered and flared fine ( once I got the brakes released, which were pinched off a bit) Landed it fine. Never even considered trying to flip back through. Seems like a bad idea to me, unless you're at 10'000 or something, then it sounds like fun. Gath are cheap for a reason. They offer little support. I have to go with stuffit on this one. Get a ski helmet for $60 You can spend $300 on a skydiving helmet and they can offer less protection than even a standard Protec. They look a whole lot cooler though. I dig my ski-helmet out of my closet for the summer and it works great, even room for an audible in it.(covered ear, slight mod)

I'm sure everyone agrees that the coverage was awful. But what I think is even worse is that I'm sure many people did not even realize that they were BASE jumps at all. All that was shown were a bunch of canopys in the air and I'm sure that many people did not realize that it was an enclosed stadium and that those canopys really came from inside the stadium. You would think that most people would put such a simple thing together, but I talked to several wuffos who saw the pregame show and did not think twice about the fact that the building was enclosed. Truly a shame. Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge. - Mark Twain

I jump barefoot every once in a while, I enjoy feeling the wind between my toes and it usually makes for better video. I realize that its possible to get scraped up and I actually landed off DZ once and had to walk back. I think its totally worth it though. Its definitely a freeing feeling. I think I've only ever done 6 or 7 in a day and I always pack my own rig. A friend of mine did 26 one day and 24 the next on one of those all you can jump weekends. He had 2 rigs and a good packer(even though he's wasn't supposed to). Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge. - Mark Twain

2000 meters, thats about 6500 feet if my math is correct, but how is 2 minutes of freefall possible from that kind of altitude? Even with a wingsuit, this seems high to me. Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge. - Mark Twain

What do you tell people that say Skydiving isnt a sport?
dbagdrew replied to Conundrum's topic in The Bonfire
I agree with Squeak, skydiving, when you are talking about competing and training, then we definitely have a sport. But doing a couple jumps a month is much more of a hobby or an "activity", as a friend of mine calls it. Is it hard to get to sleep the night after 1st jump
dbagdrew replied to zerojumps's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I definitely remember having a hard time sleeping after my first jump, I kept playing it over and over through my head. And thats not ever exclusive to my first jump either, after a weekend of good jumping I sometimes lay awake thinking about them. Not so bad that I ever needed sleeping pills though.
