  1. I too was trained on s/l, so I am probably a little bias in my opinion. As far as s/l being outdated, mmmm I don't know. I do know we use it at our dz very successfully. Every dive builds on top of the previous one. In other words you don't have to learn the whole dive on one jump. You start with your exits and canopy control. Then you go on to prcp's, your first c/p and more canopy work. You haven't had to worry about freefall yet, that will come next with short delays. The point being that you once you move on to f/f you have got the exits down and should be competent under canopy, so all you have to learn now is in air maneuvers, and those are given to you a little at a time. Aff does have its advantages however. We have had students with stability problems that did a few aff jumps and worked them out easily with the longer ff time. Either way you go is going to get you to your license. They are both good programs. Good Luck
  2. It made me realize that life is to short and you need to take some chances and go for things you never thought you could or would do.

  11. Absolutely yes I love to tell all the little stories about my nieces and nephews. It is what being an aunt or an uncle is all about. IMHO it is your obligation as an aunt to embarrass the hell out of him. Keep in mind, in 13 years he may kick your ass.

  16. For me, I dont know that it has ever really completely went away. I have become very comfortable in the skydiving environment. I probably started to get to that comfort zone around 20-25 jumps. The more you are around the more you become a part of the whole scene. It starts on the ground with the people, the equipment, the facilities they operate out of, etc.... It all plays a big part in having fun and having a good dive. I still get a little nervous at times depending on what I am doing. Maybe it is a new dive, a different jumper, some thing I need for a rating. It only gets better, Todd By the way when are you coming back out to see us at ISA?
  17. Glad you had an awesome time. You have found the right support group for your addiction...we will help keep to keep you hooked Like Skymama said....BEER we love BEER. Todd
  18. Don't mind you asking at all. I am 5'9" and 220. I started out jumping a javelin with a fury 210 in it and then went down to a spectre 190. Then I found the racer with the batwing 171 in it. My wife now has the jav and 190. For now the 171 gives me all the performance I need. Maybe with a couple hundred more jumps I will down size again.
  19. The best part of your jump is going to be that it is done with your dad
  20. I know what you are going thru. I got the bug to fly again when I got into skydiving. I put in some extra hours at work to pay for flying lessons and started doing what ever I could at the dz to pay for jumps. I am still working on my pilot license. I have my coach rating now and plan on going for my instructor. When I am finished I want to combine the two and work full time at a dz. Hope all goes well for you, Todd
  21. I love my racer for the most part. It is a very comfortable rig. It is an NOS(narrow over the shoulder). Two things I don't like are that it has a lot of velcro, which wears out. It can be replaced. I wish it had a little more padding on the leg straps. I think they have addressed the velcro issue on newer models however. Blue ones, Todd
  22. Welcome to dz.com and skydiving. 41 jumps in 2 months is awesome, keep it up and let us know when you get that "B". Todd
