Welcome WIZ

I agree with Skymama 100%. Visualizing is an awesome tool. If you have a good dive in your head you will more than likely have a good dive in the air. I know this may sound stupid, but it goes along with the visualizing part. When I find myself nervous and tense I close my eyes and picture a rope twisted up into knots and I tense my body as much as possible, then I start to unwind the rope in my head at the same time relaxing my body. It has helped me on several jumps. You will rock on your next one Todd

First of all "Job well done" on taking care of your situation and handling it. That right there should tell you that you can overcome this. As mentioned already, RELAX...RELAX...RELAX. I know it's easier said than done. Practicing your body position and pulls on the ground with a rig on will help you with that. It will become more comfortable the more you practice and that will give you more confidence in the air. It is your instructors job to fall with you. I would not suggest wieghts at this point. You need to learn to fly your body without modifications first. Your instructor needs to make the adjustments to you at this point. It only gets better, Todd

I thought I heard someone laughing at me Welcome to our little corner of the world! It is amazing that kids are so computer literate, but when it comes to taking out the trash they are totally ignorant of what to do

First Jump! and questions about AFF.

Congrats -
I have often thought about this while climbing to alti in our 182. I like to take the student slot whenever I can, and often try to get in a little nap. I wouldn't put it past anyone to just open the door and roll me out. Might be pretty cool

Looks to me that the light source is the same for both. It is coming from above. Airplane on the left has a shadow cast on it's right wing from the vertical stabilizer, and right side is shadowed. If it was from the right, the shadow from the tail would be cast to the left over the afterburner and probably wouldn't be a shadow down the side of the airplane. IMHO it's legit.

Feels good to get that "A" It's only the beginning. Keep us posted. Do we really deserve this much fun??? Todd

Welcome to the forum and skydiving -
Like AggieDave said, it is a whole different feel when you are jumping from an airplane than standing at the edge of a two story building. Fear( been said many times here) keeps us in check. It gives us a healthy respect for things that may hurt us. I don't think you can really over come fear, but I do think you can learn to manage your fear. As far as skydiving and learning all about it.....Well you can hang around here.( A lot of good info) Another thing to do is visit a drop zone close to you and just check it out, even if you don't jump at first just hang around and see what everyone gets so excited about. Hope to see you in the air, Todd

I'll trade you a 17 year old boy! He must be a genius, because he has it all figured out. He doesn't mind starting at the bottom of the ladder, as a matter of fact he wants to be poor and try to work his way up. Maybe that explains why he doesn't think good grades are important to get into college. Getting his own car means not having to ask if he can go out and he can stay out as late as he wants and who cares if we don't know who he is with or what he is doing. I might even throw in a little cash.....

I am closer to my sky-family than I am to some of my bio-family.

You should go for it! It really is a good feeling to get off of a jump and see the face of someone that just had kick-ass dive, and you helped them do it. Kip Lohmiller was my course director and I did my eval dives with Paula Coody. I'm not sure where Kip is now, but I know he is on here some where. He puts on a great course. Paula did my evals. She is awesome. She helped me on a lot of my student jumps, so it was pretty cool to have her do my evals for my first rating. She is on here too. Todd

Congrats on your first jump, Ryan

I got to do my first coach jump with a student today. I ended up doing three with her all total. I think I was more nervous than she was. This is going to be more fun than I thought. It brought back memories of my student jumps. All of the nerves and new things being thrown at you. Some good jumps and some not so good, but my instructors were always positive. I hope I can live up to that and treat people the same way.

Welcome to the family. As everyone has said, relax, listen to your instructors and most of all have fun. As far as gear you can hit up a rigger as well as your instructors. It's all good, Todd

Welcome to a new and exciting world. I understand about the wait. I started my S/L training at the end of August, which isn't late, but I only made a couple jumps a month. $$$$$ I ended up coming back in the spring for retraining and got my "A" that summer. My wife now jumps with me. Actually she has a few more jumps than I do. My youngest son, now 15, is hanging out and packing at the dz. Hang in there!!!

I was sitting here reading the new intros and I realized that I never have said hello to my new family. I have been lurking for a long time and made a few posts, but never introduced myself. I have been in this awesome sport for about 4 years now. I just finished my eval jumps for my coach rating a couple weeks ago

You misunderstood what I meant by a "security blanket". a reserve is not one either. there is no reserver presently made that can't malfunction. reserves fail also. my point to this, is that all these devices are man made, and will fail. hopefully not when I or you are using it. the problem is when people put all there faith into a device that "might" save you. and they wont jump with out this device that "might" save them....THAT is what I dont understand. as far as me being a troll? I dont think I am...or the moderators would've spanked me by now....
-
The average jumper will never have a Cypres fire. The average jumper is very likely to have a malfunction requiring a reserve ride at least once in his jumping career. How many people do you know who would be dead without a reserve, and how many people do you know who would be dead without a Cypres? I personally know one person with a cypres save, and several with reserve. If skydiving is about the averages and odds of a reserve ride either by aad or pull, I say why not try to stack the odds a little more in our favor. It's nice to know if I can't pull something will.
-
unfortunately some people feel the need for a security blanket in a sport where there is no TRUE security blanket.... it just doesn't make sense to me for that someone will not jump a rig just because it has no cypres....I just dont get it.... I am not saying I would never jump without one, but I have always jumped with one. The student gear had one and I bought my rig with one. If we are going to talk security blankets, how about that reserve on your back.

All the way through student training that was the norm, "chop and pull" for just that reason to not add any more confusion to a situation. There has been some discussion at our dz about pc in tow and the majority say cut it away and pull. That is what I have practiced and will stay with. Thanks
