    Toggle out

Keep the remaining toggle in your hand, but flare with both risers. This will prevent the tail of the canopy from flapping uselessly and possibly inverting when you flare. It actually gives you lots more power in your flare. Flaring with one toggle and one riser is a nice way to break your face in a pile of rocks as the canopy turns you into the ground. Bottom line, have a plan and stick to it. The canopy ride is not the time to figure things out.
  2. Hey Freaky, I'm with you, and I'm not alone. Many base jumpers enjoy the work involved in getting a jump. Yes, Tom is right about the lazy chunky types, but there are heaps of jumpers who like to hike and climb. The preparation and effort it takes to get to the exit only add to the overall experience. Somehow it feels better to gear up after having charged up a 3 hour hike, or after setting a personal best up the ladder. Our crew always competes for bragging rights, the best time up the ladder holds almost as much weight as being low puller when it comes to the post jump twist session. Love the hike, love the climb. It's only one way for cripes sake! The way I figure it, any time saved climbing the ladder is that much more sleep time. Last time: 1450 ft in 36 minutes.
  3. Thanks Quade. I actually did a search, but I didn't come up with much. I guess it's all in the words I search for. Don't want you to think I'm a lazy forum user! The helmet is together! Looks great in the living room. Let's see how it does in the air.
  4. Hmmm, not much I guess. I use it to sight guns, thread little bolts, anything where I close one. What am I missing? pretty please.
  5. Ok, Ok, sorry Andy, Quade is right. I thought it might be safer to go together, but it looks like you'll be alone Quade. Good luck. One last tiny question; with a side mount and top still, which eye do you guys like to use your sight with? I am envisioning the left eye to have less error, but I always sight stuff with my right. Let's see if you smarty pants' can explain this one...
  6. Thanks Quade and Andy. (man, I am really loving this forum, you can get actual answers) I think I will go with a longer distance, like 20 feet or so, and see how that works. You guys get to split the prize money! To get it, simply head to the burned out warehouse on the east side of town. Go thru the green door out back (keep your hands visible and move slowly) and ask for Big Mike. Tell him you are there for some popcorn, and drop my name, shouldn't be a problem.... and don't stare! He hates that.
  7. Hey all, I'm setting up my helmet as I type, but I have a question that I hope I can get a quick response to. How far from the helmet do you set the point at which both cameras are looking at the same spot? Tandem filming primarily, also some fun freefly jumps. I hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance. There's a $500.00 bonus for the first correct answer. (trust me!...)
  8. Thanks Josh. That is great advice. I will order a switch and make it happen. I'll let you know how it goes.
  9. Thank you both. I will order a bite switch and get it to work. How do you make the connection? Solder or something else? I guess if you solder, then you will forever have a switch attached to your camera, is this correct? Also, is a f2.8 the right 28mm lens? Sorry if I sound like a dummy. The whole camera thing is totally Greek to me. I know in a few months these questions will seem as basic to me as they probably do to you. I'm getting a site. I barely get taken seriously as it is now!
  10. Yes, it does have a manual focus setting. I found a few lenses on ebay for under 100.00, they are pentax 28mm f2.8, should I go for one? Thanks for the feedback, this forum is very helpful.
  11. Just got an older Pentax zx5 that I'm trying to set up on my helmet. I've looked through the archives, but I can't find much info on setting up a pentax. A few questions I hope some of you can help me with; Will the bite switches I see advertised work with this camera? It looks like a 3 prong conection on the camera body. If not, what do folks do to get a remote switch? Also, what lens should I order for it? I think a 28mm is common, but not sure. Are there different brands to avoid, or does it really matter? Do I really need a ring site? I plan to shoot tandems. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  12. Hey Tom, give Jay a break. I think many basers would be interested in the info. Does the moderator get to decide when rules do and don't apply? I seem to remember you posting all the info for the Scandinavian base event a few weeks back. Sounded like an advertisement to me... Hey Jay, good luck with your event. I'm sure you guys will have a great time, with or without the help of Little Brother. Just a tip; I bet you could track better if you took all the stuff out of your pockets!! See you soon man.
