I agree although not quite. For me my first jump was ok, didn't pull for myself but no real fears. Jump 2 fear realy started building. Jump 3 I could have cracked a nut with my fat ass.. that's how uptight I was. Attempt 4 I freaked out and rode down with the plane. Swore I was gonna stop but I didn't. THANK GOD I didn't! Jumps 5 and 6 were a bit better but still was thinking abnoput stopping every time the aircraft was going up and certainly when the door openend on jump run. The fear only started subsiding after 8 or jumps!! When I finaly got stable in the sky and was able to turn. But I tell you.. the fear is all worth it!! Don't quite because of fear.. you can conquer fear. Oh, about the censory opverloading thingie.. I blanced out for entire first jump and partial 2nd and 3rd jumps. Now at only 22 jumps I am loving it all. Door opening doesn't freak me out anymore.. it's the signal to go have some fun. ------- SIGNATURE BELOW ------- Complete newbie at skydiving, so be critical about what I say!! I have the EXACT same experiance as you this weekend. First time at my homeDZ (did AFF on holiday) and at this home DZ everybody learns to flatpack during their AFF course. No packing courses are available other than that. No packers available either btw. Well.. I didn't learn to pack during my AFF in France. Saturday I was a COMPLETE newbie there, didn't know anybody or anything (except falling out of an airplane), but when I finaly grabbed hold of an experienced guy at least he did find someone to show me. By the time this person showed me it was dark so no chance to practice myself. Sunday was a harder.. nobody apparantly had the time or knew how to flatpack. Took me more than 2 hours to get the canopy in the container. Most of that time was spent trying to find someone to help me Only needed help with the stabilizers, folding the tail, folding the canopy after rolling it to fit in the bag. No, not the greatest of help a newbie could have been givin unfortunatly. Not to self: if you ever get the hang of it all.. keep an eye out for newbies and help them whenever they look like they might need it. ------- SIGNATURE BELOW ------- Complete newbie at skydiving, so be critical about what I say!! I would like to see a forum for....
poohbeer replied to sangiro's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
agreed, you don't want to divide up too much.. Only create extra forums because you HAVE to, not because you can. And no forum will make a discipline more popular.. if it's popular there are lots of topics on it already. If there are too many topics of one discipline, then give them their own forum as not to dilute the rest. ------- SIGNATURE BELOW ------- Complete newbie at skydiving, so be critical about what I say!! I'm hoping you mean pulling rights -> left, because you realy need to cutaway before popping the reserve. Other than that, I'm still barely through AFF so no idea what might cause such a malfunction.. I can only guess but won't do that here. Leuk om eens een Belg op het forum tegen te komen trouwens ------- SIGNATURE BELOW ------- Complete newbie at skydiving, so be critical about what I say!! I think you are not alone on this. I had the same problem with 'forgetting' the legs but it was way sooner (the first few levels). My instructors thaught me to arch on the ground as most do i guess. I decided instead of simply doing as the instrutors said, to use a support under my feet so I could realy push my legs down a bit. This helped my to get that mussle memory in those legs. No idea if leg position is what is bothering Jon though. Might be he simply cannot stay on heading while in the backflip. Good idea here might be to not put arms straight out but a little to left and right I think. That's a novices idea on this so I could very well be totaly wrong so ASK YOUR INSTRUCTORS! ------- SIGNATURE BELOW ------- Complete newbie at skydiving, so be critical about what I say!! Same here, Did part backflip and part corkscrew or something like that. Was told in advance that the idea behind this exercise was to become unstable and that I didn't need to worrie much about the backflip itself. ------- SIGNATURE BELOW ------- Complete newbie at skydiving, so be critical about what I say!! Ok, great explanation, But if I understand correctly a block is 1 formation but it takes several points. How's that? Also, take round 2, how do I know what formations is the block (10) and which are the randoms (M, J, E)? I also count more formations (drawings) than there are letters + numbers? Confusing it is! Never mind this, the USPA manual is quite clear. The numbers and letters are for know formations apparently. You folks probably know them all by haert and that's why it doesn't say block xx (number) starts here and end here. ------- SIGNATURE BELOW ------- Complete newbie at skydiving, so be critical about what I say!! Ok, I'm new at this stuff and I'm reading a lot on the world chamionships in Gap but I don't realy understand any of the competitions. Freestyle they need to do some figurse in the air so much I understand, but has it got any official site were I can read what figures are worth how many points and so? RW: http://www.omniskore.com/comp/2003/WPC/teams_pics/draw_4.htm I guess are the formations each team needs to do, but I hear stuff +20 points where there are only 9 formations apparently with round 1 and that's even counting doubles! What's up with this? Also, there are letters and numbers under each round. ex.: "Round 1: 1 11 12", "Round 2: M J E 10", ... What are these letters? What's a 'bust'? If it's simply not scoring, why is 2 points being reducted for it? (or do I read the flemish site not correctly) CReW (CF): What's the difference between sequential, rotation and speed? http://www.omniskore.com/comp/2003/WPC/teams_pics/draw_5.htm Same stuff here, what the hell are those numbers and letters with each round? Freefly and skysurf, anywhere where they got pictures with these names of the 'moves'? On the Flemish parachuting league site I also read a story about Airspeed interrupting their briefing to give chase to a funflag which they needed to steal from the Canadians. Seeing that Mark Kirkby with a broken nose was going at it like a wild bore makes mee believe there is quite a history behind this fun flag. What the history is, is not explained on the Belgian (Flemish) site unfortunatly. I think I've got all my questions asked, but more are bound to follow

Damn, this forum and it's users are great. Totaly logical that the cutaway goes up to the 3 rings system and even a bit further.. was thinking about reserve cable which obviously closes (or not) the reserve container. BUT, howcome these extra even smaller cutawaycable-like housings stop a twist if thicker cutaway cable can't? Or are there many of these smaller ones in one riser? (hope I'm not starting to sound thickheaded but I need to understand the bits before I understand the whole) ------- SIGNATURE BELOW ------- Complete newbie at skydiving, so be critical about what I say!! "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
-
Any pictures or drawings to clarify that a bit? Rear riser? Euhm.. always thought there were only 2 risers and they were beside eachothers Cutaway cable.. isn't that routed through the harnass/container? Far away from any risers next to your head? ------- SIGNATURE BELOW ------- Complete newbie at skydiving, so be critical about what I say!! "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
-
What are riser inserts? What difference would mini or standard risers make in this case? What has age of the risers got to do with it? And are old risers by definition made by old specs so not to current specs? (not being disrespectfull, just curious) ------- SIGNATURE BELOW ------- Complete newbie at skydiving, so be critical about what I say!! mm, i build a temple and an archery range. I can get them converted, but how do I get them into archers?! 500 kills and counting at the moment Click on the red flag! Have you seen the sticks they start to carry? Or even the giants? Edit to add - this game is impossible to play without a mouse - the touch pad on my laptop was too much of a pain. yea, the giants killed me For some unknown reason I lost all people in my castle when starting a new round.. and without those wizzards or archers you can't seem to kill those giants. Oh well, very addictive indeed.. but NOT for the RSI suffering folks.. oh my wrist ------- SIGNATURE BELOW ------- Complete newbie at skydiving, so be critical about what I say!! geleerd Maar euhh.. die anderstalige fora lijkt me al een erg slecht idee, nu heb'k maar 1 forum te volgen, straks heb'k er weer 2 waar'k dan vaak weer hetzelfde ga lezen. ------- SIGNATURE BELOW ------- Complete newbie at skydiving, so be critical about what I say!! I'm wondering, is this beer thing a USA thingie or do more countires do this? I had my AFF by a Dutch club in France (with French and Dutch people of all experiances) and I haven't seen anyone buy anyone any beers for a 'first'. I've seen some "thank you it was fun"-beers go to the instructors but that was not realy a first. I seriously doubt we have something like pieing either. That's quite unfortunate I think.. it's would be great bounding tool and conversation opener in my opinion. ------- SIGNATURE BELOW ------- Complete newbie at skydiving, so be critical about what I say!!
