Bodyflight Team Tryouts 4th December
PurpleBadger replied to stevehamiltonxl's topic in Wind Tunnels
What sort of commitment are you looking at? i.e. How many hours are you looking at having people commit to in the tunnel/ how many training jumps/ which competitions are you looking at entering? -
I have a problem with the media use of this phrase, above. Do they presume that every skydiving death is a murder? This started appearing after the high profile 'murder' that we had. By the press stating that this is not suspicious it is protecting skydiving, since they are stating that it is not believed that skydivers are out to interfere with other peoples' kit in a malicious manner.

From the Bible - Matthew 7,6. 'Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet. Meaning... If you are going to try and push people into religion, they aren't going to accept (then you could put in a little argument that his interference in this is pushing you further away and possibly because of him you will never find 'salvation') Tell him people come around to things in their own time, then when they do accept them with open arms and 'cast ye your pearls' for them to take up and treasure.

wait until you get sacked from your desk job for not doing all that work - because of being on DZ.com, then you'll not be sat at a desk all day and be free to enjoy life otherwise you could PM HH and see if he'd be willing to shut down the site for a couple of hours during your work day so that you can get all your work done...

broken femur? advise on getting back again please!
PurpleBadger replied to wilcox's topic in Safety and Training
The other standards I had when getting back into things was to be comfortable to jump off a small wall. Also be comfortable running up and down stairs. Took 8 months to get back to it (but that was mainly due breaking the ankle on my other leg at the same time ) -
Ok, it's my final year software engineering project, I've been pressed into creating a piece of software for the Simulation of Witness Testimony. Does anyone have any suggestions of approaches to take? things that I really need to consider/ don't really need to consider? Any personal methods that you use when preparing for cases (timelines, etc)? Any help will be greatly appriciated!!!

Ok, so maybe i'm thinking about tunnels to much. Last night I had a pretty cool dream, the tunnel wasn't so much a tunnel but a large room. It had a computer on one wall which i could check email if i wanted (everyone was really impressed with my bodyposition whilst I was checking email) then part way through my tunnel time some people came in to debrief on the huge TV screen that was on one of the other walls, they we just sitting round on the net whilst I was flying around. One of the best parts of all was that although I only bought 20mins of time I actually got a couple of hours and then when I walked past reception on my way out I was told that the payment system couldn't accept my bank card so they cancelled the payment and said since it was their mistake my time was on the house

what injurys have u had?...what did u learn?
PurpleBadger replied to joebud321's topic in Safety and Training
Two broken legs. cause: thinking i had just enough altitude to make a turn. lesson learnt: If in doubt don't do it... (although I also learnt that if you ask lots of people to get you a dose of morphine thinking only one is going to actually do it then you get a quick ride back up to altitude ) -
The waiting is over! - The worlds largest tunnel is flying
PurpleBadger replied to Paulipod's topic in Wind Tunnels
surely you want the wind speed to be as similar in the tunnel to the speed you would be flying at in the sky for that particular dicipline? we're sorted on the bellyflying front, but freeflying in the tunnels is it not better to try and have the high speeds so that you don't have to wear HUGE jumpsuits and also compromise the body position that you want to be using in freefall just so that you can get off the net? granted tunnel instructors who are on the sharp end may not like the high speeds because they'll thow people out of control even faster with more force... -

Sorry to point this out to you, but foreigner aren't allowed to see Big Ben, you can see the Clock Tower which is part of Westminister Palace which houses it though ...guess that means you'll have time to visit the tunnel then

Supply and Demand...

It's a fair point that the 2nd hand car market is just about bottemed out at the moment so it doesn't make sense in the short term to sell you car - but cars a mechanical objects with a limited life span. Play with numbers and at some point you'll hit a point that there is no point pouring money into a vehicle with associated old age & fuel costs and find a more economical alternative. High gas prices are here to stay, though hopefully they actually stabilise and drop real soon for you guys over there (however temporarily it last...) Maybe now people will start thinking about consumption when they do get their new (or second hand) cars. Is that philosophy not beginning to change with this recent drama, people now have an increased awareness that gas prices can and will increase and that they need to find ways to try and limit the long term effects of those changes on their lifestyles? Eventually people are going to get priced of the roads and at that point they'll be FORCED to find a viable alternative.

You beat me to it, Only you didn't mention that public transport over here is NOT as amazing as what it is being made out to be, though it is much better compared to what is availiable in the US. I agree with the fact that US society is far more spread out and that cars are a way of life - hence did not say get rid of cars because that would not be possible for most people.
-
I'm agreeing with Bill on this one - find ways to minimise the amount of gas you use. It's not gonna be hard for most of you to get a car that doubles you mpg, which will effectivly cut your fuel bill in half. Before you lynch me for the suggestion then: a) you'll have to come to England to do it where you still couldn't get to me because you'd be stuck really whinging at the gas prices. b) I do understand that some people do need to have big vehicles for bussiness - but in that case you pass the added cost onto the customer (if your bussiness is not economical then it will suffer, if it offers a good service at good value then it'll survive - capitalisim...) how many people actually NEED a huge truck though?

PurpleBadger replied to Newbie's topic in Wind Tunnels
an average jump ticket is $32.50... a gallon of gas is about $6.36... a bacon roll at my local dz is $3.60... bodyflight is offering some large discounts the more you use it but it'll probably still work out cheaper to fly out to the states - just a pain to have to fly out if you just want to do 20mins or so flying -
