  1. depends... where does the sky end and space begin? p.s. BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER
  2. yeah, I wouldn't turn down helping someone with ratings... well, so long as they'd done a fair few before Another question now... If there was a mal on the jump, would it be your mal or the instructors... or do you share the credit? I've not had one yet and don't really want to ruin my record
  3. I thought that you could send a canopy to the manufacturer and they would be able to clean it for you? Might be something to think of if it is a big job. Talk to the manufacturer, see what they say but if they do this then it may be a good type to get a general overhaul done at the same time i.e. relining if it needs?
  4. HOW CAN YOU WAIT SO LONG!!! March... that's ages away . as the saying goes... All good things come to those who wait (maybe i'll try it out some day)
  5. Downsizing after 4 jumps might be considered a little quick... unless you are 100lbs and on a 290 causing you to spend the whole afternoon in the air...
  6. I'm just wondering what it would be like to do a tandem being a regular jumper. I can't really imagine what it would be like... lack of control, boring, exciting, $%it scary? Any views/opinions/ experience?
  7. Anybody know if GoFast sponsors Skydivers learning course material??? Cause the way I see it then fitting a recommended 240 hrs of study into 12 is pretty extreame Luck to everyone else with exams p.s. Adi... I though that we had decided not to have discussions over the net...
  8. If your home DZ really is Perris then your set! You got Scott Smith and Craig O'Brian right on your doorstep! They do the starter school for $150, which will include free use of the Beginner board for as long as you need before moving up onto the intermediate board. If you just want to find out some more about skysurf before you commit to anything then Scott has a pretty good Vid that he's made explaining all the basics, just ask to borrow it and then find one of the team rooms that you can chill in and watch it. There are more things to think about, and when you strap the board to your feet then you do increase the risk of bad stuff happening on the skydive, but ground school gives you the knowledge, and then it's down to you to make those lessons as ingrained as part of your normal emergency procedures.
  9. Hey all... well i found out another problem of a life that revolves around jumping (apart from being totally broke)... it's called failing exams . I have a huge maths exam in about 8 hours time and I just kinda begun learning the course, i hadn't thought that i'd been spending to much time at the DZ... untill maybe now... please tell me that i'm not the only one and that if all goes to hell then i can always move to america, start packing and just live on a DZ
  10. it depends on how tightly packed the plane is... if it's light, i leave the booties off... if it is crammed to bursting, i put the booties on just before getting on
  11. I learnt to sit in a pair of ordinary trousers and a long sleeve tshirt, it worked fine. Now when I have baggier clothing on it is a whole lot easier or if I feel like working some then I go out in shorts and tshirt.
  12. Is there anyway to see the article online? Being a Brit I don't get Skydiver
  13. great picture!!! Do you use the Pantz for FF at all? if so how well do they work out compared to normal FF pants?
  14. Do you have to be US military, or can your friendly Allies from the UK come along to? Any Idea on the lift capacity?
  15. If you contact Manifest at Perris then they will be able to give you the details to arrange one. When I was out there then they cost $65 and i think that it was 4 people that you needed. think also that there was a 200 jump minimum on it. Altitude... whatever you get, the pilot will take you as high as he can. Be warned, when I wanted to do one i got up at 0530 and the group of us walked down the road, helped to get the balloon out, had 8 of us holding it down since the pilot wanted to wait to see if the winds would die down (if we had taken of then he would have most likly landed in March AFB ), then told that he wouldn't be able to take us up ...
  16. Quotecouldn't pull it because the velcro held it in too well. Quote Wouldn't this also apply to the cutaway handle since the methods of fixing the soft cutaway pad to the harness is the same as that holding the soft reserve pad to the harness? how come it is ok to have a soft cutaway pad but not one for your reserve?
  17. you have my respect on the packing, I get a Sabre2 135 into my NJ and that's tight enough! I'll leave the reasons for the opening to the guys that will actually know Dave p.s. how come you didn't have the D-Bag? it's part of the container - so if you are looking to buy it then you should get that also.
  18. Same as... but since we did AFF and just about all our other jumping together, no surprise Dave
  19. If you can't find a way round the taxes, take a holiday! The money that you would save by say ordering the rig from Square1 and having it sent to say Skydive DeLand (to avoid state sales tax) could well pay for a week or so vacation and buy a few jumps/beers
  20. I totally agree with the learn as much as possible before doing any base, and then only do it with someone who is totally competent to teach. But on the flip side I also know somebody who's first jump of any type was a base jump into the Grand Canyon... it caused him to take up AFF Dave
  21. Whenever you want to do anything to the camera with the FFX then it needs to come out, particularily when you have wide angle lenses on it makes it a little awkward. Would definitley say that the extra $$$ is worth it. Dave
  22. I don't shoot competitive 4way, but I do film some and it does a pretty good job. Main inconvenience it can be somewhat awkward to get the camera in when you have wide angle lenses. My helmet has a big hole cut into the side so that you can fit the big long life battery on to the camera also. It is a great helmet though
  23. In your opinions which is more suitable for skydiving photography... 35mm or digital? I have been looking at the Sony F717 camera which has fairly good reviews, but not many tend to deal with freefall! Please help a confused chap
  24. Hi all... I'm yet another lurker to the forums. Did AFF in DeLand over December/January. Spent April in Perris. Bit of an outlaw to the British jumping community, only (~7% of my jumps) and a few personal disgruntalments at the BPA systems! Hope to pick up loads of info/ tips in this big scary world... blues skies Dave
