Prices for Bodyflight UK are up - a few questions
PurpleBadger replied to Newbie's topic in Wind Tunnels
paul you seem to be avoiding this question -
Does FS1 (CAT10) allow you to jump with tandems ?
PurpleBadger replied to lintern's topic in Safety and Training
No, it allows you to jump within a group of other FS1 jumpers (or you can have one non FS1 jumper in the group). To jump with a tandem prove that you are very good at controlling yourself to the tandem master that you want to be able to jump with - then MAYBE they might let you jump with them... -
Not going on about the low turn issue which I think all agree is a No No, the landing issue... before you begin to think that it a better idea to put both feet out in front of you to prevent a twisted ankle how would you prefer to break your Coccyx? I good PLF may leave you a little bruised but shouldn't leave you broken.

except for the reason you're not going out with her anymore

Just wondering, is there USPA instructor liability insurance? as part of the USPA membership or do instructors take out separate insurance in case a student tries to sue?
-
I thought this a bit odd also, then I saw the front page of the times today... http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,22989-1716737,00.html

If buying the symbi suit make sure you go for the competition (Excel) suit, nothing is more annoying then looking at people who have pityful grips and booties on their suits! These things help make the most of an FS jump, so don't try to save a couple of pounds that you'll regret later. My suit has about 250-300 jumps and a couple hours tunnel time on it and i've not had any problems with the zips, but i've heard plenty of people saying that the zips are the week spot of the suits.

WARP is the Worldwide Approved Relativework Process (or something like that). It contains: Forward movement, Fast/Slow fall, left/right turns, 180 turns, 360 turns. Then you need to complete 2 three point three ways and then a four point four way. Also worked on is your exits and then tracking at the end of the dive. Speak to your instructors and get them to recommend someone to work with and try to make sure that whoever ends up being coach is jumping with a camera so that you can get a debrief which is actually worth something! The point behind WARP is to make sure that you have the basic skills necessary in order to safely jump with a group of people, however once you do get your FS1 then be sensible about joining jumps that are tailored to your ability! i.e. don't pull together a 10way with 9 other newly qualified FS1 jumpers

Watch out for scams when selling equipment...
PurpleBadger replied to mountainman's topic in The Bonfire
It won't take to many suckers a $3300 a pop to make a fair amount of cash... -
funny you post that 1st pic, It's the Magic Roundabout in Swindon (about 10 minutes from me), it was even part of my driving test. Best method for getting across it is to simply point your car in the direction you want to come off, close you eyes, step on the gas...

Is Proper spelling important (Typoglycemia)
PurpleBadger replied to Channman's topic in Speakers Corner
I would have thought that they're instead of either there or their would have been correct. -
I think I was about to suggest that this thread got transfered to the mystery zone of Speakers Corner Simon Ward is one of the big guys with SVUK so I figured that he'd be giving out accurate information. Also since this email was reference a marketing question and nothing within was at all personal in nature, I figured he would not mind me mentioning on here in order to clarify speculation refering to his bussiness. This is the reason why I did not put the price for 10 minutes in the bedford tunnel in, is because even though I found out when speaking to Paul Mayer (DZ.com: paulipod) the weekend before last I cannot definitivly remember the price mention therefore instead of putting down what I THOUGHT it was I left that out for someone who did know to put in i.e. paul when he's on here next. edited to add: why make up something in Simon Wards name when it can very easily be traced back to me by him when someone mentions it to him? It's not as though UK skydiving is particularily large and I wouldn't like to be annoying people like Simon Ward to much.

Just for the sake of it, I got this in an email from Simon Ward when I asked about this point: On the bodyflight cost for 10 minutes, that's an opening special offer for BPA members. After that 10minutes the price is somewhat more. Also it was mentioned that the vouchers were only going to be sold for a few weeks more.
-
and one thing that's not really been mentioned, If you were thinking about trying to make a living in the UK by skydiving then you REALLY would need to think about that one again! BTW, the BPA were talking about discarding the AFFBI course because the quality of people coming off it wasn't high enough to complete the AFFI course in many cases and the waiting time to get onto a BI course at the moment i believe in something like a year.

Throughout the sport there are various types of snobs who won't involve themselves within anything other then a specific brand they think is best Javalin, Pd, etc where the something else is proven to be just as good. Just wondering how much of a problem this is in regards to SkyVenture -v- other tunnels? I've only flown in skyventure tunnels simply 'cos they've been the only ones around where i've been (though that's about to change in the UK and I rather like the look of how Bedford is developing)

You don't just have to look at page three... 21/01/2005 "A teacher at Welbeck College has been suspended after pornographic pictures of her found their way into the hands of her bosses. The Worksop-based military academy has booted 35-year-old Jennifer Growcott off their grounds while they conduct an investigation into explicit snaps which were apparently sent to a former pupil. The Guardian understands Miss Growcott – a maths teacher at the exclusive school – was pictured in various naked poses, including some extremely explicit shots. "Miss Growcott has been suspended and will remain on suspension until we have carried out an internal investigation," said college bursar Major Neil Turner. "We take the allegations very seriously and she is now off our premises. The allegations do not involve any other member of staff from the college or any pupil of the college." Maj Turner said the investigation could lead to a sacking if the allegations were found to be true. "We would treat it as a very serious matter and it could be that she could lose her job if there is something in this," he said." The Sun printed an apology this morning saying that they were wrong to have printed pictures...

didn't have TO much of an issue with Air France, but that only because they gave me an upgrade which meant the seven hour delay to defrost some sensor was a little easier to deal with. BA is good, I like Virgin most it definatly has the best service that i've come across.

Brits & election day...Where are you all?
PurpleBadger replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
when i was studying politics one of the first things out of the teachers mouth was 'in an election it's not the most popular person who wins, just the least unpopular' i think this election sums that up! but we can at least HOPE that this election will return our country to a functional two party system where the opposition parties have enough seats to be able to cause some trouble... but then i always have been an optimist -

Part of an email from Simon Ward regarding these vouchers: "Flights are of 1 minute duration each and everything that goes with welcoming newcomers to the sport. We will be giving at least 4 mins on the Early Bird voucher." FYI
