  1. guess i like the sound of that one
  2. Do we spot a recurring theme here??? speak to instructors, they are the people who have all knowledge... or at least more knowledge and experience then what we have... i.e. both myself and Skydive84 on approx 250 and Jimbo on USPA C Remeber that all anybody is posting here is opinions and advice based on personal experiences and knowledge, we can't judge on your canopy skill level and what equipment is right for you as an individual. If this is going to turn into a personal argument between all our opinions as to what is and isn't right in the world of skydiving then maybe we should start a new thread and argue all night long...
  3. Can I just ask if you have test jumped any 170's yet? what size student kit you have been jumping? wingloading is a guidline, it's not the be all and end all with your selection. Also if in doubt on the size of your reserve bigger would be better.
  4. maybe Hazarrd has decided that a 170 is a good size to start on? I for one won't be saying that people are wrong to get a canopy size that they feel comfortable with. If there is any problem with fitting a 170 into the J2 then I'd like to know, since currently I pack my Sabre2 135 into a Jav NJ designed for a 120... it only meant that I needed to improve my packing. If Hazarrd is concerned about pack volume then bear in mind that a 7 cell has a slightly smaller pack volume then a 9 cell.
  5. Once a student passes AFF in the UK, they can jump with other people, so long as they all have the FS1 qualification themselves. If you are having your 4 pt 4 way filmed then you don't need to have any instructors on it. There is nothing to stop a newbie with 30 jumps doing a freefly solo, but they won't be able to do any freefly with anybody apart from an FF coach until they get the FF1 qualification (which yes does include most of the FS1 stuff) it's not so flexible, but i'm not to sure who it would be holding back? it seems to develop skills that all people need in order to be safe in the sky with other people. I thought that the USPA also had 10 consol jumps with the AFF program? can you explain the difference between this and the BPA system? the link below shows a pretty diagram of how the BPA progression works once off student status: http://www.bpa.org.uk/progression.htm (sorry bout it not being clicky) DISCLAIMER: first probably last time defending anything to do with BPA
  6. I used to get this problem on most hop'n'pop's, but then i figured that it wanted a delay so that's what I now give it and it records ok... if i'm going to be getting out so low that I can't afford to give it a slight delay out the door then i'd probably give it a second thought as to wether i really wanted to get out
  7. The time i'm making most posts, is in the 12 hours before an exam... the time that i specifically set aside to complete the work for courses that I have been 'working on' the whole year... how about some advice for people who don't work in an office all day long
  8. Oh yeah, forgot to say... Don't trust the person selling the kit
  9. You seem to imply that were gonna die? I thought that we were all young and invincible... gonna live forever no matter what sorta stupid things we do ... WL @ 2:1
  10. Dont be so negative Adi... It only rains when your AT the DZ For events look at the list in the back of Skydive... theres a nice long list of them.
  11. Wingloading = kitup weight/ canopy size Generally agreed to be kept low to start with until you build up experience!!! Dispite what many think then you don't need a massive wing loading to learn and play with your canopy... just changing from an F111 to a ZP is a pretty big step
  12. Welcome oh and Andrea... did you really say... 'You're my FIRST post from the Kapowsin dz'? ... think you owe this thread a BEEEEEEEEEEEER
  13. So you mean the friend of mine who's 19 and is going out with a JUST TURNED 16 year old might not be generally accepted ?
  14. Can I just ask how you worked out the wingloading from Adi's profile? Won't argue with anything else that you say
  15. Both... I've seen quite a few windows where the color has faded to much to be noticable, in which case of course it is simple enough to use a permanent pen to put color on, people just don't always to that. Also on my pinpull rig then there is no window, since the entire bridal from the pilotchute to the pin is held within the container.
  16. Most of the things that need to be checked have already been listed, but just a word of advice... work out a pattern that you can follow which covers all points in a methodical order which you will repeat without changing every time that you do a check. If you are jumping about checking things randomly then it is easy to miss something Also if you aren't sure how something is meant to be setup ASK... it amazes me how many people don't have a clue with pin pull, I won't start on people trying to check the skysurf board!!! Final point... if you're checking someone, don't switch onto Auto and just expect it to be good! I had an advanced instructor the day after giving me my IC1 flightline check brief do a flightline check... then on my way out to the plane one of the people who I was jumping with went beserck... why??? i had misrouted my chest strap and it HADN'T been picked up on!
  17. On PowerDVD software there is a button that lets you copy the frame to the clipboard, then you can paste it to your graphics program. Not to sure about other DVD software.
  18. My family seem to agree (at least to my face), that if anything happens to me whilst skydiving, at least it will have happened doing something that i love to do. It doesn't mean that they don't think that I am crazy, nor that they have any inclination to take up skydiving, but they accept it
  19. huh... life before skydiving? what life... oh yeah, that's the dull period when my bank statements were printed with black ink and those bits of plastic gave my money to me, not the DZ
  20. Thinking it's a bit hard to carry out point 28 after point 54? anyway my guess neither is dyslexic... they just spent maths periods at the DZ Dave
  21. You said good things ALWAYS come to those who wait? nawww... when i was coming up to my 6th Bday, I was waiting for this really cool toy... but I never got it ... Also I'm gonna be waiting for exam grades soon, but I can pretty much guarantee that they ain't gonna be good either. Sometimes good things come to those who wait.... normally the wait through the week then being able to run away from life to the DZ...
  22. I think that is just about what i would have expected it to be like!
  23. ummm.... don't know how to break this to you... most people generally know where the ground is (If you need a hint: Look under your feet ... and DON'T say it's not there at the moment )
  24. clear and pulls at the top, in a group are good fun... especially if the plane does a flyby!!! but then there is the fact that you can do a clear and pull at the top AND still beat AFF students down to the ground It was only Xmas that i was doing AFF so I remember that I couldn't wait to jump a canopy that would actually 'do something' ... Dave errr... Demian I don't think that I said the parachute was all that over rated... but I think that I'll refer you to the Birdman forum... that's the place that you MIGHT find someone with similar views on how overated parachutes are
  25. BB scolds the errant Viking You can look, you can drool...but you don't get to have one for another 450+ jumps! Quote huh? according to bird-man then you can jump a suit with 200 jumps... so long as you get instruction from a BMI. So you're not quite so far away viking
