  1. It will make more sense when I get the video up, but take a close look at my right toggle in the photo. The excess brake line formed a loop below the toggle and that loop flipped up over the toggle so when I unstowed it I pulled it through the loop, forming a knot.
  2. I had no trouble countering the turn with my other toggle, and I was in control and chopped on my own terms. I chose to chop high to get some flight time and practice flares on my PD126, which I'd never flown before.
  3. Maybe for some, but I haven't trained for landing on rears and wasn't interested in winging it. My concern was safety above all else, and once I saw I couldn't fix it the decision was easy.
  4. Chopped at 9.5K downwind of the DZ and pointed away. I was very deliberate about doing the opposite, but got mixed up. Seemed to stay inflated for a while. Not my home DZ and too far for me to go look myself. Some locals are gracious enough to look for me but I'm pessimistic enough that I've already ordered new parts and lined up inspection/escrow on a main. I did find my freebag though, which is nice. I debated reconnecting my skyhook shackle before chopping and ultimately not doing so paid off. This is a Katana 135 loaded at 1.35. I had all the time I needed to contemplate my options and I'm happy with my decision to chop and to chop high. It's entirely plausible it could have been landed, but with my level of experience it was a pretty big unknown and I wasn't willing to accept that risk. I chose to chop high because I've never flown a reserve before, and I've never flown anything smaller than 135 while my reserve is a PD126. I actually told my flocking partner that morning that I've been planning to demo my reserve as a main. Once I get the video up you can decide for yourself if you think you could land it. I'm sure you could have.
  5. It just never occurred to me that this is something I should be looking for.

That's tangential at best to my question

In your opinion, why should the anthem be played at sporting events?
  8. Well, maybe you're right. I honestly have no idea.
  9. Yeah, that makes sense. I think a lot of people start high performance landings on a Sabre2 at first and that seems completely reasonable and accepted. Though, it *might* be a bad idea though to start swooping on something less or much less performant than a Sabre2 and that's what I was getting at in response to your video. Mostly because of the shorter recovery arc, but like I said, I'm just starting to dabble in this.
  10. I'm just giving you the feedback on your video that you asked for. Like I said, I'm just learning high performance landings myself and I can't really discuss nuanced differences in teaching practices. I am curious though how you would find Katanas that most of your students can load at 1.0, as they only go up to 170.
  11. I don't know, I'm just starting to learn it myself. e: I'll add that I'm on a Katana.
  12. I'm not sure about your advice on canopy piloting. It can be more dangerous to learn to swoop on a lower performance canopy than a higher performance one because the shorter recovery arc brings the whole operation down in altitude, reducing the margin for error.
  13. It will be a pain, but unfortunately it seems necessary This seems strange to me. Running your own server on AWS or the like would give you all the flexibility you want, though it would also require the most expertise. I feel like that shouldn't be necessary for a simple forum with little traffic, but here we are. If you want to go that route, I'm willing to help.
  14. That's mostly true, but not entirely. There are non-USPA-member dropzones in the US, and they are not obligated to require USPA membership or licenses.
  15. Pack one and you'll find your answer. It's such a pain and I regret getting the option, though it is getting easier as the material breaks in and I'm sure it will be way better once I downsize from this Vector3 "full fit".
  16. What are flares in this context?
  17. I messaged the administrator a while back to see if he needed some help with this. No response. This place is doomed. Eventually it will just go down and never come back up.
  18. Don't know what was happening? You've lost me. That was intended to be specifically about the situation where a person was shot by a cop as she drew her knife back to stab another person that was trapped against an obstacle. I do not support lethal force being options 1-3 in all situations. Sorry for the confusion.
  19. Looks like I lost track. Easy to do when people use only pronouns. I don't understand your point here. What difference does it make whether or not that timing was coincidental? I don't think anyone would dispute that, but this isn't a standard that make any kind of logical sense. The relevant question is whether or not there's a good chance someone would be killed or seriously injured without the shooting, and the answer here is also yes. If we have to give everyone the benefit of every reasonable and even unreasonable doubt to the degree you are applying here, then no shooting could ever be justified as this is about as clear as it gets. If you are advocating for no police to have guns in any situation, then please just come out and say it. Again you're arguing a position nobody is disputing
  20. I just rewatched the video to make sure I'm not just crazy... She was literally mid-stab at the time she was shot. The person she was about to stab was against an obstacle. There's no ambiguity here. Any suggestion of using less force here is absurd. This seems to be in conflict with most of your other comments.
  21. From the video, it looked to me like the knife was in her hand.
