  1. What does a window unit cost? I'm moving close to the DZ and may need one. Aflac! Edited because I'm spell challenged
  2. I had a warm Sierra yesterday at our DZ in 100+ heat and thought...........hey Sierra even tastes good warm..... I love the smell of Sierra and zeroP when the beer light comes on
  3. No......the best thread is when you come up with this "aweasume" idea and someone replies............."do a search posts dum ass".....owe the pain
  4. If you ever make a video........don't use midgets
  5. Same Idea as the Bar Mat, we called it the Rail Shot (with a glass) or Tippin' the Rail (without). If you broke a glass (especially in the ice), you either tipped your bar back 20 bucks or started making yourself a Rail. It wasn't the taste that was so bad....it was knowing where it came from and usually was at least 5 or 6 ounces....tough to choke back with the whole bar watching.
  6. I'm in and can't wait....add me to the list. -Edit - Almost forgot........I'm bringing lots of tequila....lots and lots of tequila......
  7. As a manager I go through this drill often. I'm most impressed when an employee or a perspective candidate negotiates on their own terms. The threat of leaving is just that and a bad way to start a employment negotiation. You need your manager (both the existing and the potentially new) to focus on why he/she wants to keep, promote or hire you. Not just the fact you might leave. Never shop an offer from another opportunity. You, not the offer, needs to determine your: Fair Wage for your abilities Benefits (not just medical, but cell phone, computer, etc) Terms of employment Advancement/promotion/responsibilities/future Training Merit or bonus potential (this is key, be creative here) When salary becomes an issues, set some goals for you to reach and attach a price to them. Point out what the company gains if you hit your goals. The original company B offer should give you the confidence not the terms to approach company A. So make your own list of the above terms and give it to both A and B. Then negotiate each separately. Lastly leave room for negotiation. Ask a little high so you can give a little during the process. Then decide which is closest to a DZ........oh yea that's important too....
  8. The bright side........ Every landing form this point on will be a little more exiting and the first few back will be on your arss. Look into a brace called "The Ultimate" from Bledsoe at http://bledsoebrace.com/PRODUCTS/Ankle/ANKLE.HTM [http://bledsoebrace.com/PRODUCTS/Ankle/ANKLE.HTM] I jump one and they are bullet proof. Your Doc should be able to Rx it. Get well soon......Blue skies...
  9. You would think it would........ For some reason the sudden change in pressure on one side of the camera versus the opposite side causes the lens to vibrate even when most of the camera is taped shut (do a search for TRV900 or TRV950 to read all of the attemted fixes). It's impossible to completely seal the camera, even with a Dbox. I want to keep the benefit of the SteadyShot so I'm going to slowly increase the rigidity of the lens spring until the vibration stops during ff.
  10. Has anyone noticed or experienced the following? On a flattop pro or a helmet with the camcorder mounted over the top of your still cam were you can see the lens of the still cam at the bottom of the video shot. Does the still cam lens seem to vibrate in the video? Peter Galli's setup shows the edge of his D60 lens in the video frame and it seems to vibrate in certain ff positions. The smaller lens, single chip vid cams are able to correct for this flutter but at the expense of clarity. You can't notice the difference with the naked eye but on a HDTV the frames get grainy during this vibration. I'm curious what model camcorders have the ability to correct for the flutter and if it is something that could be corrected by sealing the lens body internally to improve the image. If you have noticed your still lens (or anything else on your helmet that shows up) in the video frame dancing around, let me know the model of the camcorder. The PC's and most TRV's each have identical lens bodies respective to their model type. I might be able to figure out what causes this suttle vibration. Thanks....
  11. I posted an update on an earlier post so some may have already seen these pics. I was able to separate the lens body and their actually is a "floating iris" that is a lens that corrects for vibration and movement. On each side of this section of the lens body are mounts for sensors that detect the movement of the telephoto lens in front and the focus lens behind. If you blow air past the camera body by these sensor ports, the floating lens vibrates. Sealing greatly reduces the vibration, but a hard blast of air still causes some vibration. There is no room to seal the entire lens body. I'm going to try a 3 rather than 7 coil spring on the floating lens (the VX uses a stronger spring as well because the floating lens is heavier). Unfortunately I have to wait a couple of weeks to get a spring assortment to try. I'll let you know if it works. It actually is not that tough of a fix if it does, but I'm sure your thinking what ass would take apart a $2.5k DVCAM Camcorder? It’s easy....really.....ok I'm an ass
  12. Hey all, I've attached a picture of the "optical stabalization" mechanism in the PDX-10, TRV-900/950. I'm going to try a 3 coil instead of a 7 coil spring and sealing the focus and telephoto sensor attachment points. There are a couple of other lens body areas that may be leaking as well. The upside is the camera will retain the steady shot function in free fly, the down side I have to wait 2 weeks to get a spring assortment to try. I'll let you know.
  13. Unfortunately the PDX10 has the same issue, "flutter," as the 900 and 950. To make sure we put it to a true camera flier test, we strapped it on Peter Galli (OneLine productions, thanks Pete!) and asked that he free fly the sh*^ out of it. He did and it seriously flutters in the sit position as well as others (Pete can better describe his positions he noticed the issues most, so I'll let him know to watch the post). I've had it apart twice, so here is what I have learned so far. 1) The color separation is indeed the Sure SteadyShot firmware falling behind the vibration of the optical mechanical lens that corrects for movement. Disabling SteadyShot (disconnecting the acceleration sensor from the middle system card and/or disabling SteadyCam - I did both) eliminates the color separation but not the flutter. You also give up a steady picture. Sealing the camera tape area, speaker, and view finder has no effect. The addition of a wide angle lens has nothing to do with the issue, rather it seals the front of the cam. The internal camera lens body is separate from the focus and filter ring. (kinda surprising) 2) The issue is now mechanical, but I'm having a tough time disassembling the prism body to inspect the "floating lens." It has SIP (soldered in place) connections that are easily damaged all over it. I need a special tool. I'll let those interested know if I can solve it and I have some pictures to document the possible fix. Sorry if that sounds a bit technical...........I can now drink a beer with those that shelled out the cash for the 900 and 950....I feel your pain....but now I'm pissed, so I'm gonna' fix it.
  14. My, Mirage is born on June 6th. Is there some kind of first new rig ritual I should know about?
  15. Thanks for the feed back. It sounds like the VX2000 is the way to go. My worry about the PDX10 is it's similarity to the TRV950. The chips are the same so how similar is the optical stabilization and firmware? With the exception of DVCAM, it looks like a "prosumer" version of the 950. Unless someone has jumpped it, I hate to be the guinea pig. Has anyone jumped the PDX10?
  16. I'm getting ready to buy a 3CCD Sony and was looking at the TRV950 until I read about the problems. Are the issues limited to the TRV900 and 950? Has anyone jumped the VX2000 or PD150/X10? On one post the VX2000 is described as "da bomb" and then others claim the problem is related to all Sony 3CCD's. I was hoping to buy soon, so if you have advice it would be greatly appreciated
  17. lol......I should have used your technique on my #12 when I shattered my leg. Would have saved me several hundreds of thousands to put it back together. I'll try it next time I down size on canapy size. Thanks for for the old guy tip!
  18. I know I'm kicking and old theme in the arss, but have you ever been on a blind or set-up date....mention you skydive.......and the evening takes a dirt nap. You have to explain why and they never understand. It keeps coming up like they're going to save you or talk you out of it. I have yet to have a reaction that is positive. Now, meet someone who also skydives.......bam.......you can't shut-up. You talk in circles, share experiences, and then find out their dating your coach. (just an analogy, I have no idea who is dating any of my coaches) My point is: Someone start SkydiversMatch.com and I get a 12ve of Sierra Nevada for the idea.
