Is this a resonable price for a Spectre
johnnyoneeye replied to johnnyoneeye's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hi everyone, I am looking at buying a Spectre 190 as my first used canopy. I found one for $950 with approx. 200 jumps (manf. 1998). The owner says it is in good condition no tears or patches. I wanted to figure out if this was a reasonable price. I would appreciate any comments. Thanks, John -
Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on the best way to exchange money when buying a used rig. I can have the rig sent to my dropzone, but they do not deal with the money. I can appreciate both sides of the issue: The seller does not want to send his rig without having any money, and the buyer does not want to send his money with out having the rig. Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this issue? Thanks for your help. John

Hi, I was looking at buying a used Mirage rig ( G 4.1, M5-1/2 ). Right now it has a Sabre2 150 and PD176 Reserve. I was hoping to be able to put in a 190 main, either a Sabre2 or a Spectre. I was wondering if anyone one knew how tight that might be, because I did not see anything on Mirage's website about the "- 1/2" part on the container size. Thanks for your help I really appreciate it. John

Is this a reasonable price for a used rig?

Thanks for the comments, From the price checking I have done, I think I agree with the previous responses that the seller might be a several hundred dollars to high. John -
Buying a used rig you can’t test jump.
johnnyoneeye replied to johnnyoneeye's topic in Gear and Rigging
Thanks for the comments everyone, I think if it came down to it I would at least feel comfortable with not having flown the main canopy, because I have been jumping a spectre 210 for a little bit now. As for the container, provided it fits reasonably well, should I be picky about that for my first rig? John -
Thanks, I tend to agree with you that I should wait to discuss the price until after a rigger has taken a look at the thing. I guess the only downfall to that is there is a larger chance you will have to eat the cost of shipping two ways if the seller is not willing to negotiate and I am not happy with the price. However, I think this is just part of the process of finding a rig I will be happy with. John

Buying a used rig you can’t test jump.

I am looking at buy a used rig that has a cypress in need of its 4yr inspection and batteries. I would have a rigger inspect everything before I purchased it, but I was wondering what people’s opinions were on buying a rig they could not test jump (due the cypress needing maintenance). Would you feel comfortable enough to buy it if the rig passed a rigger’s inspection? Thanks for your help. John -

I am looking at buying my first rig. I have found a rig I am very interested in, but I do not know if the price is reasonable ($3600). The rig has a the following specs: Javelin J4 – 100 Jumps – (2000) Spectre 190 – 100 Jumps – (2000) Tempo 210 Reserve – 0 Jumps- (2000) Cypress – 0 Jumps – (2000, needs batteries and its 4yr inspection) I would greatly appreciate any advice. Just a word of caution - Make sure you try your new goggles on with your helmet (if you wear one) before you jump. I got a pair of prescription goggles from www.sportrx.com a while back but I haven't jumped with them yet. The goggles seem fine when I put them on by themselves, but when I put my helmet on it causes the goggles to warp a little bit. The bending of the goggles caused things in the side of my field of view to be bent a little. This made me a little dizzy and a little hesitant to try them out. Also, has anyone else with prescription goggles noticed this? john

Anyone else hate finals time as much as me!!
johnnyoneeye replied to johnnyoneeye's topic in The Bonfire
Wow!! I have been in school awhile now, got one degree and working on the next, and I have never heard of a Univ. Prof doing that to undergrads. It happens in grad school sometimes, but you usually know about it well in advance. I am sorry that really sucks, you are definitely worse off than me. Advice: If it is starting to go badly for you, then just pee your pants and run out of the room crying. That should do the trick. Best of Luck John -

It is 1 am - the paper is due tomorrow, it is half my grade and it’s defiantly not done yet Nothing is more fun than procrastinating, except jumpin out of planes Finals week sucks a lot!! John -
I to am blind in one eye (Hence the username- nickname from a friend), and have a hard time getting the timing down on my flare. However, I am still rather new to the sport and think my problem has more to do with getting fixated on the ground than my depth perception. I was wondering if anyone else who is visually impaired had similar problems and if you came up with anything that helped besides more practice which I know I need. John
