  1. Marcus, hello, Myself and Zoter are planning on heading somewhere to FF this weekend and although I'm not very good, you're welcome to come and tag along and I promise not to be cliquey! I can't imagine we'll go to Headcorn, but if you fancy joining us at Sibson (or wherever we end up jumping) let me know. We're really weather chasing at the moment which is why we haven't made our minds up. Caz p.s. you coming along on Thursday to the social evening? you'll meet some FFers there for sure, including Nigel who is the BPA artistics rep. ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

Hi all, just another reminder that this Thursday (28th July 05) is the next London Skydivers drinks evening. As mentioned in this post, we have changed the venue this month - it will be at the Curzon Cinema in Soho, and the bar area has been kindly reserved for us by one of the managers, Alex Vrettos who is on the London Skydivers mailing list. If you know of anyone who sometimes comes and who isn't on the mailing list or doesn't read dropzone.com please can you let them know of the change of venue. thanks and see you Thursday hopefully, Caz ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

  5. http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1189947,00.html should possibly be taken into consideration when you vote. specifically: >>"Officers were confronted with the very real possibility that this man did have a bomb." >>Initial examinations though, said Brunt, did not discover any explosives on the suspect. an innocent fare-dodger or a real suicide bomber? will we ever know? ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
  6. being an American and being a Muslim are not mutually exclusive. Nationality and religion are independant things. ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
  7. very scary stuff. I for one am a little worried about having to carry my cypress enabled rig in my rig bag on the Northern Line after work tonight! "excuse me Miss does that huge bag contain any explosives?" "err..." bang bang bang! ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
  8. http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1189920,00.html SUICIDE BOMBER SHOT Police have shot a suspected suicide bomber near a tube station in south London. Marksmen opened fire near Stockwell Tube station as passengers were evacuated. It is thought the man was killed. Passenger Briony Coetsee said: "We were on the Tube and then we suddenly heard someone say `get out, get out' and then we heard gunshots." Sky News Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said: "There is no word on whether he has been killed or simply injured." If the suspect is confirmed to be a suicide bomber, it would mark the fifth attempted terrorist attack on London in less than a day. The is thought to have been either stepping on to the train or was on the platform. Brunt said: "He was probably shot in the head. There is no confirmation of that." Police have been given orders to shoot to kill if they believe someone is about to detonate a bomb. Two underground lines are understood to have been closed following the incident. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4706787.stm Man shot by armed police on Tube A man has been shot at Stockwell Tube station by armed police officers, police confirm. Passengers were evacuated from a Tube train on the Northern Line station in south London after the incident. Passenger Mark Whitby told BBC News he had seen an Asian man shot five times by "plain-clothes police officers". Services on the Victoria and Northern lines have been suspended following a request by the police, London Underground said. Police are hunting four would-be bombers after Thursday's London blasts. The bombers fled after detonators went off, causing small blasts, but failed to detonate the bombs themselves. Mr Whitby, told BBC News: "I saw an Asian guy run onto the train hotly pursued by three plain-clothes police officers. "One of them was carrying a black handgun - it looked like an automatic - they pushed him to the floor, bundled on top of him and unloaded five shots into him." Passenger Briony Coetsee said: "We were on the Tube and then we suddenly heard someone say, 'Get out, get out' and then we heard gunshots." edit to add BBC link ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
  9. where did you hear that Nigel? ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
  10. again another extreme generalisation, I'm sure the VAST majority of Muslims like the VAST number of Catholics have not and never will harbour terrorists. The actions of a few with their warped take on their religion are tainting the majority of Muslims who are peace loving people who would not dream of slaughtering innocent people in the name of religion or anything else. ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
  11. I'm sure the vast majority of Muslims would disagree with you there, much the same as the vast majority of Catholics would probably object if you lumped them into the same category as the IRA. ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
  12. tell me about it! looks like the tubes are all still fucked. pub anyone? ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

  14. Hi, if you're anywhere reasonably close to London and can get into town on a weeknight, join our London Skydivers group. Theres currently 123 people on the mailing list that jump in all the local dropzones surrounding London. So either come and join us for our monthly socials and alcohol fests in London, or just join the email group and ask some questions on there.
  15. Try maybe heading down to northern Spain, Brian Vacher (top UK canopy pilot) and his canopy school (http://www.safeflightschool.com) have just moved up to Empuria. I did Brians three day course earlier this year with three of my friends and we had between 50 and 110 jumps each at the time, and I have to say it was absolutely spot on for our experience levels and to top it all he was a really nice bloke! Definately worth looking into. ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

sorry I was meaning to post that on here too but I've been a little busy recently and totally forgot. we're going to try the cinema this month, see how people like it or not, and then hold a vote to see whether we continue there or go back to the MP. I hope everyone can make it, see you guys there. ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

yes I agree, it was pretty quiet on the tube on the way in, but otherwise service is as normal. I think its something you accept about working in London really, you know you are a target as its a large well known city, the benefits of working here IMHO outweigh the risks. Its very sad all that happened, and the loss of life is horrific as it always is, but in some ways I think we were extremely lucky to get away with just 40 odd fatalities, considering how congested the tubes and trains normally are. anyhow, lets hope this is the last of it. ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

  25. Hi, I'm looking for peoples advice. Myself and 3 other girls are planning on coming over from England to jump in Florida for a few weeks over Christmas and New Year. Is anyone (ie the locals) likely to be there jumping or does everyone head off to Eloy? Also does anyone know if there are any boogies planned over that time, we're looking at basing ourselves at one of the big dz's there, possibly z-hills, and then hiring a car and doing a few trips to a few of the others. Can anyone give me any tips on the weather, accommodation, dz's we definitely can't miss going to, etc etc. We'll all have between 100 and 250 jumps by that point. Anyone want to jump with us?
